Sci-Fi Diner

To all of you out there considering the Sci-Fi drive in diner at the studios... DON'T DO IT!!!!

I went there for lunch one day with a group of 11 other friends. We ordered every entree on menu to see how they were. Not only was the food horrible, but our service was just as bad. Our group saw our waiter only once, other then when he brought out our food and the check.

Our appetizer was a chip dip with with various colored tortilla chips. We only had about 4 in tact chips on our whole plate... and our dip had so much onion we could barely taste anything else.

The ribs were composed of more fat than meat; chicken and burgers were dry with no moisture in them; they even burnt the tofu.... BURNT TOFU!!! It was black... I wasn't sure that was possible, but they served me burnt black tofu and charged me $19.99.

Needless to say I would encourage everyone to try another eating establishment before eating at the sci-fi drive in diner. You will be very disappointed if you don't.

My experience w/ Sci-fi has always been positive. The kids enjoy sitting in the cars, the service is always good, and as for the food it's pretty good. It wasn't nothing unusual but tasted well. There is only four of us so that may have made the difference because it is easier to time all of the food being completed at the same time rather than food having to sit under a heat lamp drying out.

We went last year during free dining and thought the food was pretty good. Their onion rings were AWESOME, and i don't like onions. Rumor has it the the food at WDW is of lesser quality during free dining too. Our waiter was very good, we must have seen him 5-6-7 times. If it wasn't so busy in there, I would have thought we were the only ones there.

I had two lunches last year during the free dinin period, the food was fine and so was the service. I have 2 adrs for this year. Once on 8/11 for lunch and 8/18 for lunch again.

Sorry you did not have a good experience at Sci Fi. We tried it for the 1st time last year and we're so glad we did. We had a great time - love the atmosphere. We had good sandwiches - I had a great burger :thumbsup2 Our server was fantastic - he may have been the best server we had at any restaurant in WDW last year. We can't wait to go back to Sci Fi this year.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. We had a good lunch last year. 3 of us got burgers and one got chili. We all enjoyed our meal. Was it five star quality - no. Was it good - yes. The shakes are awesome.

We tried Sci-Fi for the first time last summer. We thought the atmosphere would be cool, and we were looking forward to a decent burger!

Well we were let down big time. Both of our burgers were burnt. We didn't have a friendly server. They told us we should not wait for a car table as it would be about 30+ minutes of a wait. So the whole atmosphere thing kinda went out the window, too! haha

I am so sorry you had a bad experience.

We loved the Sci Fi when we went in June 2008! So much so that we have an ADR for there again this year for our June 2010 trip! My burger was geed - so were the onion rings. But the atmosphere and the car tables and the server and everything else was outstanding. I got the cheesecake and it so yummy! Expecially served on a bed of caramel corn!!! Yum!!

I suppose this illustrates "different strokes for different folks."

I agree with hurdlertwin: this was BY FAR the worst meal we've ever eaten in WDW.

The food was dry, tasteless, and barely lukewarm. The atmosphere was okay...but (1) too loud to converse and (2) too dark to see our food. We had to use our cell phone display for light to make sure we had the correct dish. :confused3

We are trying to get ADRs for this trip. I'm not expecting amazing food, its' a burger joint, right? It's just the cool atmosphere we're looking forward to. I know I've read other TR's about different places and seen some really negative reviews, yet we ate there and had an amazing experience. I've learned that there are SO many factors that go into it all. I'm going to go this time around and give it a whirl.;)

it is always interesting how different some experiences are

thank you for sharing your dining experience with us and sorry it was so horrible!

I thought the ribs were very fatty and disgusting. I would have sent it back for something else but I already filled up on the chips and dip appetizer and onion rings and my shake! I'd return but I'd probably stick to the basic food - burgers, fries, onion rings, etc....

DS4 enjoyed the atmosphere and movies, and it was a nice break. Service was good for us.

I must agree with the OP. We had horrible food there (I couldn't eat mine at all) but the shakes were very good.

The kids loved sitting in the cars, though, and thought that was really cool.

Were you expecting a 5 star meal? I think as long as people know its an applebees type of place beforehand they wont be disappointed and personally i like applebees too.

I haven't been but I heard it was a so-so experiance from a friend.

Car tables only fit so many people, so my friend and her sibling sat at the car table while there parents sat in car in front of them.

She said the food was alright. It tasted fine, but not the sort of thing that would make sci-fi a must

Im not sure exactly the reasons (because I've never been) but from what i've heard its not the place to go if you want a really special meal.

I think comparing it to Applebee's might be generous. Very generous. :)

I'm with you on that- we've been once and I give it points for atmosphere, but the food was barely chain restaurant worthy. I'd go back if I could get Brown Derby to deliver there. :cutie:

No popcorn as far as I recall.

There aren't full-length movies - just clips that go on a 60 minute (or so) cycle.
