we are staying at CR...don't want chef mickey. We will get there late morning then prob go to a park then we will be due for a nice sit down. But, I have kids from baby to young adult....some picky eaters too. American fare is a must.

oh, no... didn't realize I was on reservation board... feel free to move.... sorry!

You could try Whispering Canyon Cafe' at Wilderness Lodge. Fun antics from the staff and "downhome" family style cooking. Close to your resort too!

For our trip in October I am thinking of starting our trip with the Hoop Dee Doo Revue.

For our trip in May, which is just me and DH, we are starting with Ohana.

If you are going to be in MK I would just stay there and eat at CP

If you want to leave the park Ohana is fun for a first night.

I also like suggestions of WCC, HDDR, or 1900 PF.

If you were going to be in DHS I would say 50's PTC. I love that as a first meal, as it sets a fun tone for the rest of the trip.

we are doing Primte Time at MGm for our first night there

We are huge fans of Garden Grill at EPCOT - it's our arrival night tradition! Great character interaction (Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale) good food, slowly rotating restaurant with scenes from the land ride, and food arrives super fast for the little ones. Lots of children's options, including chicken nuggets and mac and cheese - great for picky eaters. We've been to Chef Mickey's and we prefer GG for many reasons, including the way more relaxed atmosphere and the family style service (instead of a buffet - which can be tough with three kids.) It's fun for the kids to see Mickey on the day of arrival, but we think it's more low key and pleasant for adults than some of the other character meal options.

Good luck!

Tony's Town Square. Close to your resort. Walking out of a nice air conditioned meal right onto Main Street USA on the evening of your first day is amazing. Thats the moment that makes it all sink in for me.

I say Whispering Canyon but I like what the previous poster said about Tonys. We always do LTT on our 1st night but might have to change it!

so, far I like whispering canyon....

I am off to check Tony's menu....not familiar with that one

thanks everyone!

We are eating at The Wave on our first night. We were originally booked at BWI and were going to go to Kouzzina on our first night but we switched to Poly and we've done HDDR, SoA, and Ohana in the past so we figured we'd try The Wave at CR and then go to MK afterwards.

Love the wave- our kids love it there too, and it's nice to have a quick trip back to your room after dinner on the first night! Also Ohana would be fun for all ages.

We did WCC our first night last year. What a disappointment. Food was so-so. Service was awful- including a long wait for a table, then they tried to put us at two tiny round tables (no, two round tables do not make one big table, they make a figure 8 that 6 people can't fit around!) and when we were moved to a regular table for 6 or more the hostess came over and lectured us that they shouldn't have done that. As far as fun antics, the only thing that went on was repeated screaming of "we need ketchup" which even the kids thought was idiotic. The only thing good about it was it's a nice little boat ride from CR!

We are getting to our resort around 3 so for our first night there we are doing T-Rex in Downtown and spend the evening walking around and relaxing before jumping headfirst into MK the next morning.
