Sometimes it DOES work right!

We've all read the stories on the DISboards about DVC screwing something up, reservations getting canceled, purchased points not being recorded correctly, etc. Here is an example when it works like it is supposed to. Don't get me wrong, that fellow Murphy of Murphy's Law fame is my uncle. If it can go wrong, it usually does for me. I could not win the lottery if I was the only person entered! :sad2: But not this time. Here is the deal...

DW and I purchased a contract at OKW this past November. That purchase took 60 days from offer to points in the system at Disney (11/20/09). We made a ressie for a dedicated 2br at OKW for 5/25-5/29/10. Before we could take the trip, the addonitis bug hit. As a result, we just completed a contract at BWV with a different agent. That purchase took 45 days from offer to points in the system. Both times, it took less than 72 hours from the time we were notified by the title company that Disney had been sent the paperwork until the points were in Disney's system and I could call MS to make a ressie. On this recent BWV purchase, the title company notified me Tuesday (3/16) at 3:10pm that the closing documents had been sent to Disney. I called Thursday afternoon (3/18) to see if the contract had been entered. The lady at MS told me that it had not been completed yet and asked me if I knew the name of the selling party. I gave her the name and the particulars of the contract (i.e. resort, points, UY). See looked it up, saw that it had not been done yet and asked me to hold. Within 2 minutes, she was back and told me that the contract was being transferred and give it until the end of the day to complete. I called back today, Friday (3/19) at 1:00pm and the points were there, 2008 banked points in the current UY and the 2009 points were banked to 2010 UY as I had asked in the contract! As previously stated, less than 72 hours from closing to points in the system!!!

In the same phone call, I asked if I could add a day to my current May, 2010 reservation at OKW. No problem. I then asked to book a studio at BWV for 11/30-12/04/10 with a preferred view, upper floor. No problem. The only thing was I had to accept a garden view because all the boardwalk views were gone for some of those days. I then asked to bank the remaining 10 points from the first contract purchased to next UY. No problem. I checked online about 30 minutes after the phone call ended and the additional day was there for the May, 2010 ressie, the new Nov/Dec, 2010 ressie was entered and the points I asked to be banked to 2010 UY were done as well. How is that for some DVC magic?!

I guess it is human nature to complain when things do not go as expected (or desired) and we hear of the complaints much more often than we hear of things that go right. I just wanted to let others know that quite often it happens as it should and in my case, the purchase, dealing with MS, making reservations, all of it, went just as one would hope it would! :worship:

Now maybe I will get as lucky finding flights for those two ressies instead of driving 10 hours and then when the 11 month window opens, I can start making ressies for when we want to go in 2011!!!! Good luck everyone, here is some of my pixiedust: for you (I'm keeping some for the airline reservations! :lmao:)

Sounds awesome! DH and I have a bad case of add-on-itis here lately so thanks for sharing your experience! Maybe it won't be so bad!

So true, I try to remember to go out of my way to offer kudos when they are due. Venting just comes naturally

Wonderful news! In 13 years of owning DVC I have never had an error made with my points by Member Services. I'm either very lucky or errors are rare. I prefer to think it's the latter.---Kathy

Congratulations on your good fortune! Enjoy your vacations! Did you waitlist for the BW view for your whole vacation? Since their the same amount of points, I figure there's nothing to be lost by trying, unless you are going to use your 2 waitlists for other reservations.

Never tried to waitlist before...not even sure how it works if you already have a reservation or not enough points remaining to cover the waitlist reservation. Any advice?
