Ok - so I'm back, and was in the office this morning, but "had" to come home again. Oh darn! :rotfl: The day before I left for FL (last Tuesday), I sent my laptop out to my IT dept due to a software issue I'd been having, and they'd need it for several days (hence sending it while I was gone). It was "supposed" to be delivered back to me this morning - but NOOOOOO, won't be til tomorrow. Oh well - I didn't really need to get caught up today, now did I?!? Darn IT guys... :rotfl2: Barry, et al who deal in that arena - sorry, I'm sure YOU wouldn't be problem IT guys.

SO - we had a wonderful time while in Florida. We did not go to any of the parks. We did enjoy the resort quite a bit and went to DTD twice. For table service meals we ate at BOMA (an original ADR I made) and then Wolfgang Puck Cafe and Whispering Canyon Cafe (both changed on the spot while there). FOr counter service meals we ate at Roaring Fork (at the resort) twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast, and Cookes of Dublin. We went to see ALICE IN WONDERLAND twice - we really liked it, and are ready to go see it again with our boys. We didn't do the 3D version, but still really, really liked it in plain old 2D.

It was sunny and beautiful on both ends of our trip, and poured in the middle on both Thursday & Friday. We enjoyed the fireworks at the MK while waiting for, and then riding the boat back to our resort on Wed. night after Boma.

I'll get a few pics posted soon.

Ok guys - I have a proposal for a new MAN LAW here. There is ONE THING THAT REALLY BUGGED ME ON THIS TRIP, (and actually bugged me quite a bit on our family trip in January, but I failed to mention it then) - ....... when you are traveling with your family to any Disney park, for any reason - be PRESENT with them, be ENGAGED with them, and for heaven's sake, be RESPONSIVE to them. GET OFF your stupid electronic devices!

Sure, texting someone to arrange a meeting place is ok once or twice, or to tell the other half of your party where you are since they didn't want to go on some attraction with you so that you can get re-connected is ok too... but otherwise - hang it up, put it away, or hide it if you must... but don't use it, constantly, while your poor wife deals with screaming, tantruming, hollering, sleeping, or even otherwise well-behaved kids.

I cannot tell you how many times on the buses, boat and just walking around DTD I watched this happen. Dads completely ignoring their family while they were talking, texting or listening to voicemails. I was ready to knock it out of several hands by the end of the trip. I'll bet if we'd been there longer I would have. I was so frustrated. Sure, I like my technology, and have posted "live" TR's before - but I won't do that while the family is up and present, usually only after they are asleep, or before they get up for the day. But I refuse to take phone calls while on vacation. I refuse to listen to VM's, unless it's a call from my wife, and I certainly refuse to deal with email...just because I have a smartphone and CAN look at email, doesn't mean that I SHOULD while on vacation with my family.

OK, venting over for now. I'll get off today's soapbox now.

Boy oh boy I am really starting to feel sorry for a certain Dis dad:rolleyes1 It seems that this Dad (whom I wont mention) has started a TR and has just been unable to finish it.Since starting he has taken lots of razzing from fellow dads, and seems the heat will continue until he is done.May I suggest Don ..oooopppppssss I mean fellow Dis dad that you go to your TR and just type in the words THE END:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

I have a pickem group at Yahoo. Just click on fantasy sports, then tourney pickem, and join a private group. Group ID # is 50318 and the password is monday (all lower case). Come one come all :)

I'm in! Thanks for setting it up, Greg. Today is usually the day when I start paying attention to college basketball, so I'm pretty sure you won't have to worry about my bracket doing very well. :confused3

Glad you had fun! Sorry it didn't last longer...

:thumbsup2 You get a MAN LAW vote from me. Actually, this is a pretty good man law regardless of whether you're at Disney or not. My kids like it when I make them a priority at home, too! :grouphug:

I agree:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I cant stand it, when your on vaca your on vaca. Now after saying that I for one am never on vacation.:mad:It really sucks for me.As I am a business owner and unfortunately sometimes have to be in contact with guys working more then I would like.I try hard to have nothing going on while I am away, that way I can limit my business work while gone. However with the type of work I do I have to many people rely on my services, and the state and city do not want to hear you say " I will take care of it when I get back":mad:I only have 24 hrs to handle a call if it comes in.I have guys take care of the calls but I need to decide which ones are important ect Plus need to make sure the still run smooth while not thereBut all in all you have my vote for Man Law but can we throw in a little exemption for us business owners? Promise will keep it to a min! lol

Ok, Carl - I hear your point - because I do have a dad that goes on Summer Camp with us and the Scouts who has a similar situation - I'm the Summer Camp Director for our Troop - we take 65-80 boys each summer for a week, with about 20 adult volunteers, and this dad in particular is a business owner too, and has to deal with payroll and a few other issues while there... but then, I can't gripe at him too much, since he's also our Scoutmaster. :rotfl: So yeah, a little exemption when needed for business owner dads - but otherwise, hang it up!!!!!

Thanks for the exemption I promise not to over use it:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Interesting tie-in to my trip. We were eating at 50's Prime Time Cafe. The place is themed to look like your mom's kitchen from the 50's, and the waitstaff yells at you for things like having your elbows on the table. I happen to notice our waitress (probably in her late 50s and very stern-looking) sit down in the bench two tables over. The family was a mom, dad, and two DDs - probably 10 and 12ish. Both mom and dad were messing around with their iPhones. The waitress starts laying into them about how they are in Disney with these two precious little girls, and they're nose deep into their phones. Mom says she was checking the weather and gets visibly embarrassed and puts it away. The dad, however, just has this look like "get out of my face and let me get back to my email." What a tool.

Yes - use my Blackberry for updating Facebook while on vacation. But never when my kids are around and I have something far more important to be doing - like talking to them.

Man Law!

I love Prime Time! We ate there in January... lots of fun.

Yeah, multiple family members on their gadgets or tuning out the rest of the family with iPods really bugged me this trip as well. TURN 'EM OFF!

MAN LAW!

A few trips ago, we were in Little Mermaid and this guy is texting in line, while he walks down the row, and at the start of the show. Did not say a word to his daughter or wife the entire time. I was right behind him and the light was bothersome so I told him to turn it off. You could tell his daughter was greatful.

This last trip with DD and some of her friends, three of them brought their phones in the hot tub. IN A HOT TUB.

50's was also a hoot. Same trip and one of the kids had her phone out. The response from "mom" was, "Honey, we don't Google here."

Sometimes you have to be connected to the real world, but not 24/7. Especially at WDW.

This is my biggest pet peeve next to line cutting:mad: I can't stand when people are on there cell phone while waiting on line talking real loud so everyone hears everything they say, including cussing, I'd like to grab that phone and put it where the moon don't shine.
Quickie phone calls are OK (we are at the Tiki Room meet you at the exit in 10mins bye)

I also get mad over the texters that are walking and just stop dead to start texting, almost causing a chain pile up.

If you want to talk or text fine go sit on a bench or move to the side, so you are not in the way and no one has to hear what you are saying.

Alot of these people think they are so important because they are on the phone every 2 seconds, but in realality the more important you are the harder it is to get a hold of you!:confused3

Oh yeah! MAN LAW:woohoo:

:thumbsup2 I agree, Wow how did we manage growing up without them:lmao: I have one, I don't know how to text, retrive a message, play games or anything else it does, and I don't want to know. I hate when it rings (someone wants something:lmao:)

I like to think that not depending on it gives me a edge somehow:confused3

ok guys this cell phone talk is starting to make me feel bad a bout taking mine when I go away. But Unfortunately I have to my name is on the company so if something major goes wrong guess who is flying home to make it right. But this subject did get me to wondering what does everyone here do for a living?

I will start it off by saying I own my own business since1999 incorporated in 2001 .I specialize in wheelchair accessibility. I do wheelchair accessible kitchens and baths, widen doorways, build ramps, install stair chairs for the disabled or elderly, install wheelchair lifts and residential elevators, grab bars you name it.I also do any kind of construction associated with the wheelchair lift for example decks, doors and concrete. And of course I have to service any mechanical equipment I install plus i service equipment from other installers. Well enough about me how about you guys?

This is a great idea Carl!:thumbsup2

I am an xray Technolgist and I specialize in Vascular Radiology. In my department we take care of all the vessels in the body except for the heart. My most rewarding thing is stroke management that we do. WE are a stroke center so when someone has a stroke they fly themhere from areas all around. Once someone has symptoms of a stroke we have 6 hours to go in with micro catheters and wires from the femoral artery in the groin. We go into the vessels of the brain to where the clot is and hopefully inject TPA (clot disolving med) into the area and restore flow. If we are out of the 6 hour window we have a total of 8 hours from onset to go in and physicaly remoive the clot with a wire that is shaped like a corkscrew. We get that wire wrapped around the clot and pull it out. We have patients come in that have noticeable facial drooping and speech deficiets and when we are done they are normal again. Unfortunately we are not able to help everyone but we have been able to change the lives of many people and their families because of their quick response at onset. I have to take call 1 night a week and every 4th thurs-Sunday.

I am going to brag on my wife a bit now...she is a nurse practitioner who is director of a program that attacks childhood obesity and cardiac disease risk factors. She was a consultant for the Jamie Oliver Show that starts on ABC soon. "Jamie's Food Revolution". From the pre release things coming out he is not going to be kind to our area at all. Oh well...just like the media to pick on WV...easy target.

It's OK Carl, we are NOT refering to you or someone who uses it for livelyhood, it's the the one's who have to know all the gossip and meaningless chit chat, that can wait until they get home to get caught up on, but go on and on about it.

Steve, went to the Dr today for a check up (BP), and asked what I should take for acid reflex, he is sending me for a UGI What is that:confused3

Exactly - not your kind of need to be on the phone Carl - it's the other ones, who just incessantly talk, text or are otherwise disengaged from their family, friends or traveling party. Last week I saw a family of 4 walking through DTD - Dad, Mom, Son (maybe 14 or 15) and Daughter (maybe 11 or 12) - and ALL FOUR of them were on their individual device texting someone. Who knows, maybe they were "talking" to each other about where they wanted to eat or something - I just don't know. It was comical and sad really. Maybe it's just me, but apparently not from the comments on this so far - but why on earth would you spend hundreds, or thousands of dollars to travel somewhere just to ignore who you are with and where you are and spend your vacation time chatting with an electronic device?!? Call me crazy, but what a sad waste of time and money. Stay home if you're gonna do that.
