Kidani, HRH & BLT in 6 nights- Yes! We are THAT crazy!! Nov 4-10,09 OBX updates 4/13

Finally, finally, we were seated for dinner. I forget if I'd mentioned that we had never been here as a family before- so I was REALLY looking forward to my kids getting abused! :rotfl: Pods and I HAD been here once before...way back on May 1st, 1989- the day the park opened. I am sad to say I took a grand total of TWO photographs of MGM that day- and neither is of 50's PT- I guess that's because that year I was always video taping everything instead of taking pictures- and I can't locate the movie. So sorry!

Anyway, we were seated at a tv-less table in the back, and I ordered a fine beverage to begin my meal- Dad's electric lemonade I think?

2009_111006summer0561.jpg

Tyler went for a milkshake- just plain vanilla! :confused3

2009_111006summer0562.jpg

They both ordered appetizers (DCL dining after-math at work again!), Tyler had Chicken noodle soup-

2009_111006summer0563.jpg

While Timmy did the usual, "Ummm, Uhhhh, for the appetizer, I'll have the shrimp cocktail- Jumbo shrimp served with cocktail sauce and lemon...". He always feels the need to order with the WHOLE description, it's really funny to Pods & I...and very cute.

2009_111006summer0565.jpg

Our server was nice... she was willing to play, but just seemed really, really tired. She was happy to tell Pods and a guy next to us to get their elbows off the table a few times, so of course I enjoyed THAT. Our dinners were soon served, Tim had fried chicken-

2009_111006summer0566.jpg

No joke, that has to be the biggest portion of chicken in WDW! I think it could have fed our whole table! And it was really, really yummy. Pods had Dad's meatloaf-

2009_111006summer0568.jpg

And both Tyler & I ordered the pot roast-

2009_111006summer0569.jpg

Which was very, very tasty. Sean had his usual stack o' fries, followed by another stack o' fries. Tim was scolded for not eating his greens, and LOVED it when our Mom fed them to him!

2009_111006summer0570.jpg

The plates were cleared, and we were handed dessert menus. HUH? What about the viewfinders?? Oh...those desserts have been discontinued, so the viewfinders are NO MORE! :sad1: I have to admit, I was a little sad- I thought that was such an original idea. Our Mom proceeded to tell us how the viewfinders didn't always work, because the wheels would get stuck, and how a menu was a much better way to order (true- not many restaurants have MENUS to order from, it's waaaay more fun than some stupid old viewfinder that of course you can find anywhere...) but as long as we would agree not to beg for desserts which no longer exist, she would see if she could find one for us. :yay:

I am a TOTAL DISgeek. You know I just wanted that viewfinder so I could take these-

2009_111006summer0572.jpg

2009_111006summer0573.jpg

Don't even THINK about ordering angel food cake!!

2009_111006summer0574.jpg

2009_111006summer0575.jpg

We were all grateful to her for finding a viewfinder for us. It's just so cool! And I hope they put the new desserts on there sometime soon. Both the boys ordered the S'mores (which are still on the menu- wonder how THAT could have happened?). And wow, they were in HEAVEN eating them-

2009_111006summer0576.jpg

2009_111006summer0577.jpg

All things considered, we DID enjoy coming here, although I hope when we go back we get a better table (and a Mom who just got on her shift instead of one who clearly needs to go home and relax after her shift). At this point, Sean seemed to have had enough of the park, and so I decided I would go back to BLT with him (which is where he said he wanted to go- back to the room. He was looking really, really worn out). Pods & T&T would stay for EMH and ride RNR and TOT and TSM for a couple of hours, which was all good (especially since TOT was another 1st time for Tim. And FWIW, he later said it was no big deal, just fun. I was shocked!!). We took a pic or two before Sean and I left-

2009_110906summer0176.jpg

2009_110906summer0177.jpg

Then we said good-bye, and Sean & I headed for the bus.

2009_110906summer0182.jpg

Soon we were back to BLT-
2009_110906summer0184.jpg

2009_110906summer0185.jpg

And I asked Sean to come with me for a minute to look at the pool. Once we got over to it, he started trying to open the gate, and asked for my help- I asked him if he wanted to go swimming, and he replied "yes, YES!" which I was VERY happy to hear! So we went back up to the room to find our bathing suits, and to check out BLT's shiny new pool- because Sean wanted to. A big, big deal. Because Sean didn't want to just go back to the room and play with his books and friends, which would have been the same thing and the expected thing. He had a change of plans, to do something new. And there is nothing in our world that is better than that!

Our last night at BLT....coming up next-

that is a fanatistic thing. Deviation from a plan is HUGE!

Love the RNR picture.! Beth can't wait to ride those fun rides at HS. Katie thinks she gets to as well. i'd be mom of the year to take a 3 yr old on TO T :) LOL--we'll see what happens.

We have never eaten at 50's. I might add it to the list. I know that the sci-fi dinner is still on the list. The mom makes or breaks the meal

I have talked Tim to adding a few more days to our trip. Actually he thought it up, we leave the week before the fall break. Something similiar to Jersey week so airfare goes thru the roof!

:cool1: Yeah....an update!

I can't believe they got rid of the view finders! :headache: I loved them, even when they didn't work. They really are so 1950's cool! I loved them when I was a kid. They are on the same level with those old 45 rpm records.

I'm glad to hear that Sean wanted to go for a swim at BLT when you got back. Sometimes I think a swim is just what you need when you are really super tired.

And speaking of BLT - I am going to be staying there for 4 nights in September with my coworker before she starts PA school. I can't wait - it looks so cool!

Awesome review !!! I jave never done 50's as I somehow think it is more fun with kids and as they usually want to go to Sci Fi we never do it !! But first chance I get to go with someone !! Iwill have my elbows on the table and refuse to eat my veggies !!:rotfl2:

How awesome that Sean wanted to swim !!!:banana:

I almost always get the pot roast at 50's! The chicken is such a big portion I'd have to split it with someone. No view finders?! :scared1: That's just not right.

How awesome that Sean wanted to go swimming at the last minute!! :cool1:

I'm glad that y'all enjoyed 50's!! Too bad that your waitress seemed so tired, but at least she tried to play the part a little. The pot roast is so yummy...that's what I had when we ate there, and Mike had the chicken...he loved it too!!:thumbsup2

Can't wait for more!

That is so true- deviation from the plan is HUGE!! :thumbsup2 I love that Beth wants to ride all those big rides- and as for Katie, just have her stand on her tippee-toes...can't wait to hear how it turns out! :rotfl: So excited you added more days!! YAY! More is BETTER!!

I loved the viewfinders when I was a kid, too. Do you still have any 45's? I have a box of them- they were just so cool, and it was so much fun to walk in to the record store with a dollar and get a new tune for home. I guess that's how it is on iTunes, too- but having the record was just really great!

So you picked BLT? LOVE IT!! I really, really want to stay there again. When are you going in Sept?

Oh Rosie!! You HAVE to do 50's PT!! You will love it, even without a great server, the food is good and the place is just really, really cool inside. It's like stepping into a time machine. Really the most unique restaurant I can think of.

Very good pot roast. I think our favorite was the chicken, though. It was HUGE and it was really good. :thumbsup2 Looking forward to seeing you for lunch today!! :dance3:

Just caught up on the pics! Nice work!

Thanks! :goodvibes

Hey- the tired waitress wasn't the end of the world- my kids thought it was a riot when she kept scolding us, even if it was semi-half-heartedly. :rotfl: They didn't know the difference!

glad you had fun at the 50's we had so much fun there too
and Sean wanting to go swimming that is great :woohoo:

:goodvibes YES! Sean wanting to go to the pool was AMAZING!! I couldn't believe it! :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Some of the best fried chicken anywhere! Just the time I had it when they brought the plate I looked like this  So much food.

I had a great time at lunch today! Thanks for listening to the family stories. :goodvibes

I had fun yesterday, too! And loved listening to the family stories- anytime!:goodvibes

Great updates! Love 50's! :lovestruc That's so cool that you and Sean got some unexpected pool time that evening! Looking forward to more, but sad it's the last day.

So, as I said before, I was stellarly excited that Sean wanted to go to the pool at night! Just the fact that he communicated it to me, he didn't just have a tantrum instead, was huge! And that I was able to say, "Ok- but we need to go upstairs to our room and put on our bathingsuits, and then we can go swimming" and we went and did just that- well, to be perfectly honest, there aren't a whole lot of run-of-the-mill conversations with Sean, so this made it even MORE special. :goodvibes Anyway, here are some photos of us exploring the BLT pool at night (which, by the way, Sean THOROUGHLY checked out- every INCH!).

Oh...and did I mention that while we were at the pool, you know, behind BLT, that WISHES was exploding on the other side of the high rise? Yep- of course it was. :rotfl: And you KNOW you can't see it from back there. But I actually thought, that THIS time, what I was watching was so, SO much better....

2009_110906summer0192.jpg

For once, I didn't mind missing WISHES at all...

Next up- the rest of the family is back, so Pods and I make a quick stop at TOWL...and now you see it- now you don't- the icicles are on the castle!

Great updates! Love 50's! :lovestruc That's so cool that you and Sean got some unexpected pool time that evening! Looking forward to more, but sad it's the last day.

Well, it's the last night- but we always take an evening flight home, so it's not the last day. :goodvibes Although....the last day did not go as planned, unfortunately- there's a little suspense for ya!

When are you going in Sept?

We are going 9/12 -9/16. Jen starts PA school the next week. It all started with a conversation about how Jen "needed" to go on one last Disney trip BEFORE she started school. Then I mentioned that I was planning on going in the fall and I would be happy to go with her. Next thing I know - she had the reservation. As she says - calling member services is dangerous.

It's earlier than I wanted to go and I don't know of any other Disers who will be there during the same time frame, but I still think its going to be mucho fun. ADRs are already done and we are going to MNSSHP, of course.

Loved your morning update and I wish I could see the pics right now. Hearing Wishes in the background would be a tad frustrating, but I know your evening with Sean was worth a thousand wishes!

Sorry I didn't get around to updating yesterday as I thought I would...but, unfortunately, i forgot it was Thursday- the dreaded how-can-we-possibly-get-Timmy-to-everything day, also known as the day i am a Timmy delivery service. :drive: Anyway....

We all met up back in the villa, and Pods & I asked Tyler to watch everyone for us for about an hour so we could go up to the TOWL. No problem! So I got to visit my favorite bartender again, and have another of these-

2009_110906summer0196-1.jpg

Although it was a bit more crowded here tonight, because apparently all BLT owners are Steelers fans, and that's who was playing on Monday night football.

2009_110906summer0200-1.jpg

Ok, well you can't see anyone in that pic, but trust me, they were there in full-force! Since I had no interest in this game, i decided to spin around and have a look at the castle, and lo & behold! They were lighting the icicles for the first time!!

2009_110906summer0197-1.jpg

2009_110906summer0198.jpg

My girl, Holly, was happy to come out and take our pic-

2009_110906summer0199-1.jpg

We finished our cocktails, and Pods was going back to the room, I was going to follow him to get my better camera so i could take some nicer photos. While we were waiting for the elevator, the castle went DARK! :scared1: No lights at all!! So I went back to the TOWL to have another

2009_110906summer0196-1.jpg

because it was sooo yummy and it was also my last night of vacation, so I was a tad sad about that fact. Nothing like drowning your sorrows in a glass of fruity booze filled yumminess!! Besides, it gave me a chance to spend a little more time talking to-

2009_110906summer0201-1.jpg

who REALLY IS all THAT and a bag of chips. :goodvibes Of course, by now, the castle had come back on, but it was regular lighting. I actually felt blessed I had caught the one brief glimpse of the icicles before we left- they were officially going on tomorrow, with the first MVMCP, and I was SO sad we were going to miss it- and the Osborne lights, which were also starting up TOMORROW.

I headed back to the room, where only Pods and Sean were hanging out- T&T had jumped on the chance to go over to the arcade and spend all their winning tickets on a bunch of prizes (that broke as soon as we got home. It was all fairly junkie, unfortunately). I went to see Sean, who was hanging out in the bed. And I touched his head. And I nearly burned myself on him when I did, he was sooooo hot. :guilty: UH-OH....Sean seemed to be sick. Another autism issue, when your kid doesn't communicate all that well, is that it's just like having a big toddler or baby, you have to guess when they aren't feeling well, because no one is willingly going to offer up that information. He may have felt awful all day, I have no idea- I need a big, obvious clue like a fever to know that something is wrong.

Anyway, I ran back over to the CR store to purchase a bunch of motrin, and check on how the two other boys were doing in the arcade-

2009_111006summer0578-1.jpg

where the big debate over how to successfully spend 10 million tickets on loads of crap and garbage continued. Back at the villa, Sean took his medicine and fell asleep- as did we all eventually. But I can tell you that Sean and I did NOT get a whole lot of sleep that night- he was doing a ton of tossing and turning, of course I had to feel his forehead every 3 minutes and I was very worried. We had to check out by 11, but the DME was not until 3 or so...where would we go? What we would we do? Would we have to spend four hours in the lobby on a bench with Sean dozing in and out of a restless nap???

Oh ye of little faith in the magic of Disney......pixiedust:

I LOVE calling member services- it IS dangerous!! :rotfl: You are going right before us AGAIN! Just like last year! Hope you get started on your TR right away when you return- last year you helped get me all psyched up for my trip. :goodvibes

And yes- my evening with Sean was worth a thousand wishes- very well put!

What a nice time for you and Pods after a great day with your boys! I hope Sean was okay. Good to "see" you again!

Ellen:

I obviously starting Dis'ing again right in time to catch your latest update. I can't wait to hit that TOWL. I am really looking forward to that.

Oh poor Sean - I hope he is OK really soon! I do remember that scary feeling of realizing your kids are sick. Brian was such a fussy baby that I never knew whether it was simply fuss or he was getting sick. It tends to make you hypervigilent, once you screw up a couple times.

Well - I am looking forward to finding out what kind of Disney Magic you encountered. I hope you are able to update before you leave this weekend.

And - yes - once again I will be in Disney before you. I REALLY wanted to go the third or 4th week of Sept, but I was willing to scarifice so another Dis fanatic could have one more trip before it was TOO LATE. I honestly don't think she would have gone otherwise and she is soooooooooo excited. Her kids are little, so an adult trip has new meaning to someone with toddlers at home. Yes - I am a generous person - I know! :rotfl:
