If you are unhappy with your home resort....

We were unhappy with our home resort. I won't name it as not to insult other owners. Parts of it we loved, other parts of it we will not miss. We enjoyed several vacations there but on a whole its not where we want to spend the next 50 years. We stayed at BLT in February after adding on site unseen. I fell in love two minutes after walking through the front door. When we returned home I listed my 2 contracts for sale. I had them with a broker for several weeks. I was getting impatient so last weekend I gave the listing to The Timeshare Store. Both listings were amazingly sold in 4 (yes 4) days for my full asking price. This morning I added on at BLT and I couldn't be happier (our fingers are crossed that the webcast in a few weeks will sweeten the deal for us). As they say, buy where you want to stay. The moral of this post is if you are unhappy with something, do something about it:yay:!

Congratulations on your BLT purchase - welcome to the BLT neighborhood! I'm glad to hear that you were able to make the changes needed to enjoy your membership.

Boy, do I agree with you! When we bought, we were sure we'd love our home resort, but never warmed up to it. But as soon as DH walked into OKW for the first time, he decided "THIS is where I always want to stay!" So we also did the buy/sell thing (although we bought our new one before we sold-I refused to be without DVC points!) and have never regretted it.

I am still on the fence about this one. I don't really like our home resort but so far haven't had any problem booking elsewhere at 7 months. We don't usually go during the peak weeks so it's not a problem. I would like to sell but it seems a good idea right now to pay less in MF unless it gets to be a problem booking what we want.

One of my home resorts is not my favorite but like the previous poster I have had no problem booking at all the other resorts at 7 months, and I travel during busy times. Personally I do not want to spend the extra money to buy a resort I like better. They are going to keep building them and there will always be a chance there will be one I like better.

:) We bought where we thought we would love to stay and it has worked out perfectly. DH especially loves it...anytime I ask him if he wants to try a different resort...I get the famous 'whatchu talkin' bout Willis!' look. I didn't care where we bought, I just wanted to own a piece of Disney. We are so happy with our choice.

I know that for us, it's been such a great feeling when we pay our dues to support the resort we love, rather than pay to support one we "tolerate".
Well, actually, paying money is never a great feeling, but it's much less bad to pay to the place we love.

That is great for you guys! Congrats on getting what you want.

We knew we wanted to stay at VWL 95% of the time so we bought there for the 11 month advantage and I am so glad we did. I like not needing to waitlist and then have to move points around because we have used less or more points than the original ressie. If you don't mind where you stay then pick the resort that works out best for you moneywise, otherwise pick the one that you love!

Someone said it best in the past, "I would rather spend the next 30 years at a resort that I love then the next 40 years at a resort that is just okay."

Enjoy BLT!

BCV is our favorite resort... however we haven't stayed at BLT yet... we have a MK view booked this year... I'm confident we will love it too.

Congratulations on your decision. Sounds like it was the right thing to do!

We own 4 contracts - 2 at a place we hate and 2 at a place we love. We have never had any problem at the 7 month mark either.

That's exactly why we waited to join DVC until there was a resort offered on the monorail. We've always been monorail people and had we bought into a non-monorail resort and then later seen one for sale on the monorail, I would have been super upset. Thankfully, I ended up loving the decor and feel of BLT too - LOL. Home resort is so important! :goodvibes

Congrats to you on getting into your favorite resort. I am hoping to get to try BLT in one of our next visits.

So far there has not been a resort we have not liked. Of course we have our favorite parts about each resort (theme, restaurants, location) but I am not sure what would override the other.

We have always rented a car so getting around and bus service have never been an issue for us. We try to stay at a different resort each time if we can. I have visited all of them to just walk around, and we have stayed at 4 (OKW, SSR, AKV, BWV).

So far, nothing in our travels would have us disliking a resort so much that we would want to get out of it. So far we have not had to travel at peak times, so we have been able to book at the 7 month window.

Good decision!.. We fortunately bought several years ago, love our home resort and have added on since then. We have stayed at two other resorts and loved one and hated the other. Have not tried BLT or AKL yet but will in the future.

Thanks for posting your story.
Our strategy is to own 2 sets of points: a resort we love and "bargain" points. We bought a small contract via resale last year that was a great deal. We'll use these at non-peak times of the year to stay elsewhere when we won't have a problem at 7 mos. We've been saving up for an add-on and will buy at AKV soon. We stayed at Kidani on our bargain points this January and LOVED it! I'll be happy to have the 11-month window there in case we want to travel at busier times, get a value or concierge room.
DD2 was looking at pictures from our Jan. trip just this morning and said, "I want to go back to the room with the animals, Mommy." How can I say no? She's a good little salesperson.

Our problem was we tend to travel at busy times, and the 7 month window just didn't cut it.
