Visiting Disney being overweight

Hi.. I have a trip planned in July and wanted to know what limitations as far as rides are there for a an overweight person.. my fear is not being able to get the bar to go down and then having to do the walk of shame.
I am going with my 5 year old daughter so we are mostly going to be doing kiddie rides- Dumbo, ISASW and I am not sure what else.. She is not a big thrill rider so I won't have to be worred about those.
I am walking a bit everyday so I will be able to keep up with all the walking in the parks.

You need to check out the "AllEars" online newsletter (www.allears.net I believe). I know that they have had specific articles before written by people who consider themselves "Pooh sized" and the article(s) were about specific ride restrictions and such. You should find it pretty helpful. You could also try asking this question over at the Theme Parks board. HTH...............

The only problems I have ever had are:

It is a bit difficult to get up out of the Space Mtn cars. It is hard for the skinny people too a bit so it isn't completely obvious.

The theater seats at the studios Muppets 3D are a bit tight but, certainly doable.

I can't really think of anything else. I have gone while being up to around a size 24/26 and have had NO problems riding everything unlike some other parks around Orlando.

This makes me feel really good! I am a 24/26.. I have been on roller coasters at area parks where the bar did not go down and click.. I just don't want to embarass my daughter..that would break my heart!

Disney is pretty friendly in general to "people of size." I'm a 26/28 and my hubby is abt a men's 4x and the only ride I remember having problems with was the teacups...we made it but (both of us plus our 2 yr old grandson at the time) it just wasn't very comfortable and I prefer not to do it again. It wasn't that the 3 of us didn't fit in the "cup" but the hip/leg room was just not generous enough...I'm 5'6 and he's 6'0 so that probably didn't help either. Otherwise we really haven't had a problem that I remember in any of the Disney parks. As another poster said, that isn't necessarily the case at the other area parks; we chose NOT to go to Universal the day our kids went over there for that very reason. Relax and enjoy your trip! You should be fine!

I would just avoid space mountain, and maybe rockin rollercoaster. Those 2 involve stepping down, and I'm a clumsy skinny person, about 6ft. I got stuck in the space mt car after wedging myself in there. Rockin rollercoaster I had issues with me and my bag. Dumbo should be fine, ISASW will be more than OK. I can't really remember how large the Soarin seats work, and mission space might be a little cramped.

I hate the Tea Cups! Last time we went, I was a size 16 and it felt tight. Add that with the fact it now makes me sick and I will skip if I can.

Several of the attractions have a car that you can sit in to try it out before you actually get on the ride itself. Allears.net has the best info for anyone "Pooh" sized and the rides.

On Soarin' and Star Tours, I think it helps to sit in an end seat if you can. Pull the seatbelt all the way out and fasten it before you sit down.

On Test Track and Dinosaur, the front seats are roomier and you can pull the seatbelts way out on those rides too.

I agree that the Muppets seats are very tight.

Disney is VERY overweight friendly. Last time i went there i was 6'1" and 390lbs. No problems, no issues rode everything with my 3 sons. Dont let it slow you down.

I'm not too sure on the kiddie rides but I had ONE problem in all my times going as a plus sized gal and that wasn't even at Disney. It was Sea World Kraken roller coaster I didn't really have a "walk of shame" but it was worse I had to wait for the next car for the larger seat standing there in front of everyone. UGH!!! I was around 280-290 wearing 24s but probably needed 26s then.

Of the stuff I did do for dd who was 2 when we went first time with her I didn't have any troubles but I was afraid to go on the Barnstormer(yeah she was tall enough at 2 and brave enough) because I was afraid of just this happening. I missed out on a fun thing outta fear and dd wouldn't ride with her uncle who is thin, only wanted mommy to go or she wasn't. It probably would have been fine.

Great to know that the kiddie rides are more heavy friendly than I thought for when we go to Disneyland later this year.

In fact, most of the rides don't even have bars or anything, so it's perfect! You'll have a great time
