The "I Can't Believe I'm Doing a PTR for This Trip"PTR-UD 5/17*TR Link!*

You found my PTR and now I have found yours!!:cool1:

That is a dilemma!! You can't wrong in either park.

Enjoy your cruise. I'm OK with you sharing details about the cruise too. I've never been on a cruise.

Well, I think even though it is a Saturday the first week of May is suppose to be a quiet week. I agree with so many of the things the others said...I like your pros and cons for both parks. And really there is nothing the says Disney more than MK! I still feel as much as you guys love Epcot, that would probably be my choice. Yes, it is a two day park...but, without the boys you would be skipping some things and giving more time to others and I really like the idea of the Poly thrown into the mix; and at the poly you get to see the light parade on the lake.

good luck! with this one ...seems a great deal harder to decide than I would think... you may just have to pull straws :lmao:

Ok now that I've actually read your updates... :rolleyes1

I would agree that it's a hard choice between Epcot & MK... :scratchin

My suggestion would be to change your whole vacation around so you can be a Disney the weekend BEFORE your cruise so we can make up for last year and actually have a DISmeet!

Now that sounds like a plan! :goodvibes

I think it's going to come down to you imaging you are there that weekend. And think about how you will feel if you don't get to go to MK at all. Then think about how you will feel if you don't get to visit Epcot. Which thought makes you more sad?

Wow...that really has me thinking. I think we may be leaning toward one over the other...stay tuned!

Boy, this is hard.:sad2: After reading your pros and cons both parks seem evenly matched.:confused3

It's so funny because like you the first park I thought of was Epcot. (probably because there is still so much we want to do there and although the boys love FW, they get a little bored with WS:rolleyes:) But, now that I've read your pros for MK all I kept thinking was ahhh....how could we miss seeing the castle or Wishes?

As far as the cons for MK...we visited on a Saturday last April (the week of Easter:scared1:) and we didn't find the parks too bad and Spectro was even showing that night. We didn't find it any more crowded than our trip in August. We actually thought the following Tuesday was worse crowd-wise. I've read that a lot of people either are arriving or leaving on Saturday so maybe it wouldn't be too bad, especially since it's in early May and not on a school vacation/ or during summer break??

Thanks for the crowd info. I'm still very torn, but I think we may be leaning one way. Who knows..it could change 100 times before we go!

Oh, man - that is so hard! But one day is better than none, right!! :thumbsup2 Well just to hit on a few of your bullet points....

You know you can get a Dole Whip at the Poly, right? It's not the float - just the ice cream - I don't know which you like better.

Wishes is at 10 that night? Soooo....if you choose Epcot, you could attempt to see Illuminations from the FW side of the World Showcase (right near the friendship boat launch or even a little further back if it isn't too crowded and you can still see), and then hop on the monorail, get off at the TTC, and walk to the Poly beach and watch Wishes!!! :cloud9: That way you still see the castle and you can see Tink fly from there too (she's just a green speck, but it's kind of cute)! You can get a drink from the Tambu Lounge and/or a Dole Whip from Capt Cooks afterwards too! I only mention this in case you pick Epcot - you can still get a "little" bit of the MK this way! Sitting on the beach with your sweetie is really nice! Just a thought.

Sara

I totally thought about seeing Wishes from the Poly beach....that sounds so nice!

Yay! Hi there! I will share cruise news....I'm too excited not to share it!

It just may come to that! :confused3

I'm in...YAY...another Missy PTR/TR :cool1:

this will be so fun to read along on...I have never been on a cruise so this will be a treat and can't wait to see what you two do at Disney...

:confused3

if your plane doesn't leave till 8 pm on Sunday what are you doing before you head to MCO?

as far as park...

MK or Epcot...geeze that is tough...my gut would say MK while my adult brain would say Epcot...

what would make your disney Day....worldshowcase and some adult drinks and a trip to the moon, around the track and through California plus fireworks and lasers?

or mainstreet usa, the castle, tink and firewroks, Jack, some cheesy safari jokes, a new blast into space and some IASW after all ?

:goodvibes

Scrappie J~

PS Matt's vote is: Epcot can be more romantic and MK has more fun rides..he says what do you want to get out of it?

I think we will just relax and soak in the last of our vacation on Sunday. Use the pool, have a nice lunch at DTD, stroll and take in the last of the Disney magic.

Ok...I think I have made a decision. Not 100% sure, but definitely leaning! Matt's question of what I want to get out of this is really the bottom line. I'll be sharing soon! popcorn::

Well here it is....for those of you who have been waiting for our park
decision...

We've decided go to go to........(drum roll please)

Wait for it............;)

THE MAGIC KINGDOM!!!

::MickeyMo::MickeyMo::MickeyMo::MickeyMo::MickeyMo::MickeyMo::MickeyMo

We decided this for several reasons. First, something Carissa said really struck me. If I wake up in Orlando on the day we are to fly home, which park am I going to be most sad about missing? The answer to that is definitely MK. Although I love, love, love Epcot, the MK is just all the best things about Walt Disney World.

Second, when I imagine a WDW vacation I see myself walking down Main Street with all the sights and sounds that make me love this place so much.

Last, my friend Julie (aka mousescrapper) asked the question...."what do I want most out of the trip?" The answer to that is that I want to soak up as much Disney as I possibly can in the short time I have. Jeff and I will have just spent 5 days on a ship together enjoying all the romance and "us" time we could want. We'll have access to alcoholic beverages and activities geared toward adults. When I get to WDW, I want to be a kid and be silly and goofy and ride all the rides and buy popcorn....etc, etc.

With that decision made, now we can talk more about the trip itself. Coming up....a to-do list, my planning binder, and our must dos! :thumbsup2

In all honesty, I would have chosen Magic Kingdom too. I mean it just screams DISNEY! So glad that you've made your choice so you can do more planning. I hope that you intend to post your cruise details and plans too. I've wanted to go on a cruise for years but John doesn't want to. So, I can live vicariously through you.

Several of you have been asking for cruise details so I decided to dedicate this post to what I know about the cruise. :) I'm sure I will add things as we get closer, but here goes.

We are sailing on the Monarch of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean ship, out of Port Canaveral, Florida. Here's a picture of the ship..so pretty!

monarch.jpg

The Monarch is one of the older and smaller ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet. We booked an oceanview cabin on Deck 3. The cabins are small (only about 122 sq feet.) and ours will have a porthole instead of a window. Here is an example of the layout of our cabin.

shp_br_lov-state_sch_379.jpg

As I tend to get seasick, our cabin location was a concern. After some research, I found out that the lower I was on the ship (closer to sealevel) and the more centrally the cabin was located (front to back) the less motion I would feel. So here is the deck plan of Deck 3....we are in cabin 3106. I think we did pretty well. :thumbsup2

This is the section of the ship you are looking at.

The itinerary of the cruise is as follows:

We leave Port Canaveral at 4:30 pm on Monday May 3rd. We sail all night and arrive at CoCo Cay, a Royal Caribbean owned island, around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4 The ship will be anchored out a bit from the island here and we will take small tender boats to get to shore.

In CoCo Cay, Jeff and I plan to do a snorkeling excursion. It is shallow water snorkeling so I think I will be able to handle it. (on my 2006 mission trip to Jamaica I got VERY sick on a snorkeling trip, but we took a boat out to a reef ) Here I will be able to swim to shallow water and stand if I begin to feel nauseous from the wave motion. For the excursion fee, we get the use of the snorkeling equipment for the entire day. Not bad. :) We also plan to just relax and enjoy the beautiful beach. :beach: The ship is scheduled to leave CoCo Cay at 5 pm.

We will again travel through the night and arrive in Nassau, Bahamas around 7 a.m. on Wednesday , May 5. The ship will be docked in Nassau and we will have the entire day here. Our plan right now is to take a self-guided walking tour of the city and it's historical sites. Jeff is very interested in doing some pirate related activities as Nassau was the home of Blackbeard and a mecca for pirates back in the day! pirate: Aargh! pirate: There is a pirate museum in town that we may visit and several of the stops on the walking tour have historical ties to piracy. Jeff is also looking forward to browsing the Straw Market, Nassau's biggest shopping market. He has never been to a place where haggling for a good price was not only acceptable, but expected! It's definitely an experience!

The ship is scheduled to leave Nassau at midnight. The entire next day, Thursday May 6, will be spent at sea. We have no plans at all except to lounge by the pool and soak up all the ship has to offer. :goodvibes

We arrive back in Port Canaveral around 7 a.m. on Friday May 7.

Sounds great, huh?? So that's the itinerary. I am so excited.:banana:

A few other things worth mentioning:

All of the meals on the ship are included in the cruise price. There is a main dining room where a formal dinner is served each night. Jeff and I will probably do that at least one night, just for the experience. There are also other buffet options for dinner which are less formal and more laid back. More our speed! Water, iced tea, and lemonade are included with all meals and throughout the cruise. There is the option to buy a soda card for $24 which would give us unlimited access to fountain drinks. I think we are just going to stick with the water, lemonade, iced tea option. I'd rather spend my OOP money on adult umbrella drinks...if you know what I mean!

I am still researching entertainment options onboard, but so far I know that there is a comedian, a variety type show, a “newlywed-type” game, and a scavenger hunt of sorts. Of course there is an onboard casino, a spa, and the all important POOL DECK! :cool1: There is also a rock climbing wall....I think I'll pass on that one!

Of course, no trip is complete without a hiccup and luckily we've had ours! In order to travel to the Bahamas you need a birth certificate. Obviously a Passport is recommended, but since we are leaving and returning to the same US port ( a closed-loop cruise), not necessary. I have a passport because I needed one to go to Jamaica in 2006. Jeff, however, does not. Upon looking for his birth certificate, we discovered that he does not have one! :scared: YIKES! We called his mom, who insists that she gave it to him. Well, now what?? Not only does he have no passport, now he has no birth certificate! We researched our options and found that you can get a certified copy of your birth certificate (raised seal and all) at the Office of Vital Statistics in the county in which you were born. Lucky for us...Jeff was born right here in Monroe County where we live. Crisis averted. :thumbsup2 With only 55 days till we leave, it would be pushing it to try and get a passport, but at least now we have all the necessary documents to travel.

Last but not least, the planning binder! Yes..I am a binder girl and proud of it! ;) I couldn't wait to make a new binder for this trip! Here is a picture of the front.

Oh that looks like so much fun! Looks like a little bit of something for everyone! :thumbsup2

Your planning looks great! Love the binder:love:

I think Jeff should post an update for all of the husbands out there who don't want to go on a cruise. I'll make my DH read it. He will not go!!

I did not know that about where to choose your room if you get seasick. Learn something new everyday.

Yay!!! for Magic Kingdom! :yay: As you said, you're getting your adult time on the cruise so MK is the perfect choice!!!;) There is nothing more Disney than MK!!:goodvibes

Ooooh....your cruise sounds like so much fun! The ship is really beautiful!!! Definitely good to know about the cabins if you are prone to becoming seasick. Wow! I didn't realize that there was so much to do on a cruise...all the entertainment options sound great!:thumbsup2

:woohoo: for the binder!! Love it!:goodvibes

Yay for the Magic Kingdom!!! :cool1:

The cruise was really Jeff's idea. What is it that your husband is opposed to? My good friend just left on Sunday for a Disney Land/Sea trip and her husband was a bit apprehensive as well...doesn't like not being able to see land. I can't wait to hear how it goes for him.

I asked a lot of questions of people I know who have gone on cruises, read a lot online, and grilled the travel agent about where to book a cabin. I do NOT want to pay that much money for a trip just to be sick the whole time!

Yay!!! for Magic Kingdom! :yay: As you said, you're getting your adult time on the cruise so MK is the perfect choice!!!;) There is nothing more Disney than MK!!:goodvibes

Thanks Angie! I just can't imagine going to Disney and NOT doing the MK.

I love my binder too! Most of all, I love that I need one! :goodvibes

Thanks Sara. Jeff is getting really excited too which makes the trip seem more real. I get excited them minute I start planning...it takes him a little longer! :confused3

Glad you were able to choose a park and feel good about the choice. :thumbsup2

Yay for snorkeling! Can't wait to hear about that.

When we were getting a military passport for myself in order to move to Australia, I realized I didn't have a certified copy of my birth certificate - just the one the hospital gives out. So, I had to order one. Glad you guys got that taken care of! :goodvibes

Oooooooh, I love all the cruise details. The onshore excursions sound like they will be really fun too. I think we'd really like doing the walking tour as well. Haggling for a cheap price on something would be right up my husband's alley. He's always trying to get prices down when we go to flea markets.

I'm seriously considering taking my mom on a Disney Alaskan cruise next year. John's onboard (pun intended) right now but we shall see.

Missy, love the binder so cute! Looks like you hit it truly in the middle of the ship good choice. I have heard (not sure if it is true) but that apples help with seasickness :confused3. Also, glad you guys realized it about the birth certificate now and not a week before (Like I would have probably done)--just an FYI a girlfriend told me about the US also has a passport card for cruises from land only...I believe she said it was only $25 but no clue how long it takes to apply :confused3 but just sharing the info in case any one needs the info. It is good to know you can still use the BC I thought that ended last year.

Congrats on deciding on Magic Kingdom! good choice (but, I think either would have been a great choice--but, I agree with you on your choice reasons). :mickeyjum

I have never been snorkleing that does sound like a great deal of fun...and I really hope Jeff is practicing his haggling...fun!!

My DH hates to travel to the vacation. He loves being on the vacation. He says that a cruise is simply all travel without getting to the vacation. He seems a little more receptive now that he knows that many cruises leave from Baltimore MD. I also think that neither he nor I understand the excursions once you get somewhere. The prices also scare us quite a bit.

So, I will enjoy your cruise along with you and keep working on changing my DH's mind.
