We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside...Boatwrights is the TS restaurant there....do we really need resservations or can you normally do a walk in?

Ideally I would like to plan a couple of character meals and use boatwrights as our other TS option IF we want additional TS dinners.

It depends.

We often stay at POR and, although we've never tried to just walk in, we have been able to get same-day reservations at Boatwrights on a number of occasions. (For instance, stopping by at lunchtime to get a dinner reservation.) But, not always....

If it's really important to you, I'd book it in advance... but you *might* be able to walk in. It'd be a gamble.

I twice have stayed at Port Orleans Riverside (POR) in January. It is not the most crowded time of the year, obviously. Nonetheless, I feel that you don't need ADR for this one. The restaurant is large enough, it doesn't have a profile to attract guests from outside POR and people who stay at this resort already have a large food court. I have never seen a capacity room at this place and I would be very surprised to have to wait a long time for this restaurant.

Depends when you go. We went the week after Columbus Day last year. Tried to go to Boatwrights around 6:30 pm on a weeknight without reservations. Were told that it was a 1 hour wait. Gave up and ate at the POR food court.

I would make ADR's as you never know what the crowds will be like. We had ADR's in September 2007 for 5:30 at night and still had to wait 45 minutes past our time to be seated. I always recommend ADR's.

We were at POR for marathon weekend in January and maybe it was just a lot of tired runners not wanting to leave the resort for dinner but most nights it was a long wait for those who did not have ADRs however, a lot of people had good luck making same day reservations a few hours before they wanted to eat so maybe this would be an option of you

I would have to add that Boatwrights is the only TS restauraunt I would not recommend. We ate there last year. I had the blandest prime rib I ever had. DW had a dish she was so so over. We agreed that if we wished to eat the POR we would eat at the CS restaurant.

I'd skip Boatwright's all together as well. It is pretty awful. If you are looking for another TS place not to far, you could always take a boat to DTD and eat somewhere in that area.

We have had luck getting into Boatrights without an ADR. There was usually some sort of wait but it was always less then what the hostess told us. They gave us a buzzer so we just waited at the River Roost.

I have to agree. We ate there two years ago for our last meal of our trip and it was awful. DH and I had the prime rib; I sent mine back twice and they still didn't get it close to be right. The service was terrible and you couldn't hear yourself think let alone have a conversation being that it is stuck between the food court and the bar and people walking back and forth, etc.
