I know all the expierenced Disney cruisers will have the answers to my question. And would like to thank you all in advance for your time in answering. :thumbsup2

I know DS will be able to get soy milk. What else will be available for him? What type of margarine do they use? Do they make mashed potatoes w/ chicken stock? What has been your experience/s.
:confused3

They will do whatever you ask/need. You will complete the medical form to notify DCL of your needs. The more info you can put on it, the better. Then, the head server will meet with you on the first night (and possibly a chef too), and will meet your needs. Yes, they will prepare food just for you/your child.

The more info you give them on the medical form, the better prepared they can be...if there is a particular kind of margarine you need, tell them.

The "normal" spread is a butter/margarine mix. I can get real butter by asking for it. If you need pure margarine, list that on the form and it will be there for you.

I pray they do. I know on our last cruise with RCCL I asked for veggie cheese for pizza & Nucoa marg. for toast, bread and potatoes on the med form, but they said, "No". So I would like to be prepared by bringing at least the Nucoa marg. But I am willing to even bring the veggie cheese so DS can enjoy his pizza too if they would use it. Unless they have breadsticks and marinara, then that's a plus :thumbsup2

You may have hit a difference between RCCL and DCL. My friend's son has severe peanut allergies. She has found ONE company that makes chocolate chips that are safe; all others are made in factories that also make peanut products...and it would take a minimal amount of cross contamination to have her kid in anaphylactic shock. SO, she asked if she could bring her kind of choc chips on board and have them make cookies for the child. DCL told her to supply them with the information--brand and where to order the choc chips, and THEY would have them for her. No need to bring them herself.

I can't see why they would handle your allergy issues any differently....but please keep us advised. DO the medical form, specify what you need, and see whether they will agree to supply it. If not, you can bring your own.

My son has a milk protein allergy. He's also allergic to soy protein. We've cruised DCL 7 times and have had no problems. We do use the medical form, we've found that gives them time to prepare and ultimately makes things easier for us. Disney has been very accommodating, there have always been plenty menu choices.

Man, you have a rougher time at dinner than I do. ;) But I will do just about anything to make sure DS doesn't miss out and eats. Did they have desserts that he could eat, besides oatmeal cookies?

My son is not a big dessert eater, so that's an easy one for us. They do have rice dream ice cream which they will serve with sprinkles or fruit. He loves fresh fruit, so we've had some gorgeous fresh fruit plates come out for dessert. One cruise they baked sugar cookies just for for him and then on our last cruise they brought out a plate of chocolate dipped strawberries.

It's really been fine. We always request the same Head Server mostly because, after so many cruises, he feels like family but also because it makes the whole allergy thing really, really easy. He just "handles" it.

where do you get the medical form?

DGD is lactose intolerant and we use Lactaid milk. Would be great if we didnt have to bring any with us.

My son is allergic to milk, soy, and eggs. I sent in the medical form (you can print it online on the disneycruise site) and inquired about a few specific items. They called me a couple days later to discuss and were very nice. They said they would have rice milk and rice dream ice cream available. I had requested a milk/soy/egg-free sandwich bread but they said they would not be able to accomodate that. They said I could bring some but must be unopened in the original packaging. Our cruise is March 20th so we will see how it goes. From everything I have read here I am very hopeful that for once I will have a vacation where I will not be constantly stressed about DS's food allergies.

This is GREAT!!!! Keep 'em coming. Any other foods available that are milk alteratives.

I found it under "my online check in" in my reservations. It's a PDF form.

My DS is also lactose intolerant and will only drink Lactaid, not rice or soy milk. They do have it onboard and will serve it in the main dining rooms or through room service.

I know this won't help my DS, but just to clarify for those with lactose intolerance...did you have to fill out the med form to get it or do they always carry the Lactaid like they do soy milk?

I don't know if they would have it without the form. I filled out the form and also had it noted on my reservation (over the phone with a DCL agent).

This is one of those items that there is usually a small amount on board, but if they know it will be needed, they will have more available.

It's always best to do the medical form in advance. For allergies, you don't need to have the doc sign it. By having it done ahead, it will be noted on your dining assignment--when you give your room number as you enter for breakfast or lunch, it pops up on the computer. Your dinner servers will already be aware of it. Any special requests for foods can be made on the form and hopefully be met in advance.

If they don't learn of your needs until you enter the dining room for the first lunch or dinner, it's too late to get any special supplies or increased quantities of other items. This MIGHT limit what they can serve you. You only need a small amount, but what if there are 5 people on board with the same needs? Or even more?

I sent an email to disney cruise line with my reservation number and indicated that we had a lactose intolerant child and requested lactaid milk. The email response I got stated that it had been noted on my reservation and that they would have a "lactose-free" milk available but could not specify the brand because they have many different vendors. She stated that they also had rice and soy milk but we have never used either of these. The email also stated that these were only available in the main dining room and with room service and that on our first night at dinner we should remind our head server of the need of lactose free milk and someone would come to our table and talk to us.

Our baby doesnt have a severe lactose intolerance but its enough that regular milk will make her miserable and we would use lots of diapers.

I do think Disney does a great job in meeting the needs of its customers if it can.

Do you think I should do the medical form just in case? even though its already noted on our reservation

I'd say yes do the form too.

Our DS had the same problem before he was diagnosed. He also started getting headaches and his skin got blotchy. Because of the headaches at 2 1/2 y the dr sent us to a Neurologist. The Neurologist told me that the cow milk is causing inflamination in the brain and will also cause behavioral problems, and it does.

Hi

My DD(10) has a severe dairy allergy as well as an intolerance to gluten/wheat.

On the 2DCL cruises we have been on Disney has been outstanding:worship:. We have always filled in the medical forms in advance and have never had a problem and they have always gone out of there way to accomodate her.:banana:

I am dealing with different food allergies but your reply encouraged me. I have a question though - how do they handle food the first day, before you even meet your main servers in the dining rooms? For example, as you walk on the ship and head to a buffet or fast food, who will be available to talk you through finding/obtaining safe foods? Just wondering! thanks!

Hi

Just speak to one of the servers and they are more than happy to help. they will get someone to walk through the buffet with you

Both times we have eaten in PC and there has been something we found that DD can eat that we knew she would be safe with.:dance3:

There has always been salads, meat, fruit etc. In fact on the last occasion we sailed in December they had big bowls of fruit salad and DD was miffed as all the strawberrys had gone bar one out of the bowl. I asked one of the passing waiters if they had anymore and within minutes they brought her the biggest bowl of strawberries you had every seen!!!:rolleyes1

Please dont let your allergies stop you from IMO having one of the best experiences of your life.

If you need anymore info then dont hesitate to askxxx
