Ever See a Good Confiscation at the Bag Check?

I had a first at Epcot this morning; a very interesting confiscation at the bag check. The family a couple people ahead of me claimed their extremely large bag contained baby suppies, but it was full of glass bottles. There were bottles of beer and various other glass containers with clear liquid which they claimed was water. However the security guard checked them a little more closely and they were adult beverages. The whole lot got confiscated and he called someone to get the contraband while the family continued in with a much, much lighter bag. Anyone else ever seen an interesting confiscation?

I don't think I've ever seen anything taken at the bag check. That is definitely weird - maybe they were just planning on partying through the parks?

Haha, no... but that's great! I'm glad that they actually took a closer look! I've only seen glance n' go checks!

Someone had a small knife taken, but it wasn't anything huge, they just said they were going to use it to cut up an apple.

Idiots. :headache: I would have hoped they would have been banned (at least for the day) for their rampant stupidity.

This wasn't at WDW but we once had a box of Fruit Roll-ups confiscated upon entry at a park. They said we had to buy their food only, even though I had 3 kids w/ me under 7 who were picky and would need some sort of snack throughout the day. They asked if I wanted to take back to the car. I said, nope...keep it an enjoy. I know they have rules but that was really silly! I've practically taken a meal in AK lol.

One time a guy in front of me had a swiss army knife. The security guard said it was a "little big" but she would let it through this time, please leave it in the hotel the next time. This wasn't long after 9/11. I'm thinking, what??????

Never seen one, but heard of a gun confiscated at Epcot once. (the woman was arrested for no permit)

A few years ago at Disneyland, there was a guy in front of us who was trying to take in two lawn chairs. He had them casually slung over his shoulder and was surprised when the guard told him he wasn't allow to take them in. He said he was going to use them to watch the parade and didn't want to take them all the way back to his car. The guard said he could either shlep them back to his car or leave them at security. The guy wandered off muttering something under his breath.

Not sure if this counts but... At Epcot a youngish couple ran through the security checkpoint, towards the monorail. The young man had to be physically brought back by security. He had a bottle of wine he had purchased in Epcot, and lost the reciept, he and his gf had walked back towards the buses and realized they wanted the monorail instead. They were afraid the security wouldn't let them go towards the monorail with the wine, so they RAN! Once they were back, the security guard heard there story, and looked at the wine and the reciept. He lectured them for a few minutes about RUNNING from SECURITY being very DANGEROUS, and then let them get on the monorail.

They were so embarrased.

I have never seen anything confiscated in our many trips to WDW and sometimes it is a bit of a pain but I am still glad they do the check.

The only thing I can never figure out is why some of the security guards insist on checking my wife's travel purse. It is so small it won't hold anything but a few credit cards and our room keys. You can stick more in your pockets.

I have seen 3-D glasses taken from 2 young girls last September. They each had a pair. The security person said "I don't think these belong to you." and then kept them and sent them on their way.

I saw a guard confiscate a pair of stolen "bug eyes" 3D glasses that the person had in her bag. The guard put the glasses on his head and let them continue thru the gate. So if you are stupid enough to steal the glasses, don't try to take them into another park.

I saw the same thing on Feb. 7th...she was a Cheerleader, and we were at MK and the BUG EYES were from AK....also she was the one that told the Security Guard he was from the same city George Washington was born...she had the wrong State, and the guard corrected her...I laughed SO HARD!

I didn't see them taken but saw the 3D glasses on the table in January.

For non Disney parks (since you can bring food in at Disney), I just sneak in food by leaving it in a pocket. I'd rather pay $0.65 for a soft pretzel outside the park than $4.99 in it and they never stop me.

I almost had a Leatherman confiscated once. I was in my bag like always. I've been through the bag check dozens of time with it in there. It's a tool that just happens to have a 2 1/4 inch blade with it.

Anyway the guard told me I'd have to check it into security. So he called over his supervisor to take me to security to store the Leatherman. The supervisor took me about 50 feet away from the bag check, handed me back my Leatherman and told me to just keep it in my pocket the next time I went through security. The supervisor was a reasonable man. :thumbsup2

BTW, I was all Yes Sir, No Sir with them. Even if I don't agree with the rules I don't argue with security.

We saw a man getting a rather large-ish knife confiscated going through International Gateway. He couldn't understand why he wasn't allowed to bring it in. He eventually left the security desk and headed back where he came from.

But seriously, couldn't you just have to put it in your pocket and they would never know? Not that I am advocating bringing this stuff into the parks, but if you are going to check bags, how about people?

We were with another family two years ago. The husband was packing a number of airplane sized liquor bottles in his bag. They were confiscated.

If you have to bring in a few of those things, have the sense to put them in your pockets... :sad2:

While going thru security at Disney Studios, a teen gal in front of me had a glass bottle in her backpack (my husband thought it was a candle...I honestly could not tell what it was...shaped like a drink bottle). Anyway, since it was glass, it was taken. The teen did not protest, just somewhat surprised. I don't think the guards will let any glass containers thru no matter what they contain.
