Temp Control in rooms?

Hi there,

we are going on our first cruise in Nov. 2010 and my DH gets really warm. He just raised a good question... is there a individual room controls to adjust the temp or should he plan to bring a small fan?

No control in the rooms - on other threads I see where some have brought a small fan on the ship with them. I am typically hot, but found that I was the one using the blanket.

We've only stayed in suites and each room of the suite had separate temp control, I thought all staterooms had at least one.

We had a thermostat in our stateroom (SPH room so cat 10) I'm not convinced it really worked though...a couple of times we wished we could open the window.

All cabins have individual temperature controls just like you have at home. Most folks bring the fans to generate white noise.

One of the disadvantages of having a verandah is opening the door to go in or out sucks all the cool air out.

I don't remember seeing a thermostat but our room steward did ask us if we were okay with the room temperature. We were fine, but I'm guessing since she asked there was some way to adjust it.

Each of the 23 cabins I've been in (no suites) had a temp control on the wall. It did not allow you to set a temperature, only to turn up or down to warmer/cooler or something similar. In addition, most of the time the stateroom host asked if the temp was ok and had it adjusted if I said I was too hot or too cool.

Obviously, I haven't been in all 800+ cabins, but every one I've stayed in had the controller.

there are thermostats but not real effective. i bring a fan with an extension cord so i can move it around. outlets are at the desk (except in suites where they are in a few different places).

It does say somewhere online and in DCL's brochures that every room has an individual control.

If the temp in your room is too warm, you can call guest services and they'll send someone from maintenance up to lower the temp. It's done internally, I assume to save energy of some sort....or I guess I don't really know why. Point is, they WILL come adjust it.

What I'm really wondering is how they're going to keep the rooms WARM in Alaska, since they only have A/C.

sounds like we will be in good shape!!! i think we will still plan to take a fan just to be comfy and since we've gotten used to the white noise they provide.

btw, i wish there was a disboards to go to for all the questions in life!!! i know there are lots of ways to post any type of question online but the replies are not as well informed and caring as here!!!!

I was just about to say this too. We've had our temp adjusted on our last cruise. They did take the panel off to do it.

If you have a veranda closing the curtains during the day really helps to keep it cool.

I don't think there are any wires to the themostats in the room. Those are merely there to make you THINK you are controlling the room temp! LOL

Seriously, of you are hot natured (like I am), you will never get the room cool enough....well, maybe if you sail in January or to Alaska.

No, so far, DCL doesn't. I was thinking that this might be one of the first things they'd do to the Wonder before they start to sail her to Alaska.

I found the room to be a tad warm....and we keep the temp warm in our home. The room host did ask if we were comfortable with the temperature and I asked him to turn it down a bit. It was a bit cooler but not much. It wasn't "hot" just warm....like I could like I could sit around in a Tshirt and underpants and be comfortable type warm If there were any individual controls for the temperature inside the room I didn't notice them. I'll have to look harder next time

No, they have heat too, that won't be an issue. They set the ships system to keep the air as a certain temperature, probably about 72 degrees, and the air is cooled or warmed as needed.

I have a heat pump at home, so technically I don't have a seperate heater, but when it was 25 degrees out in December and snowing in Sacramento, it kept my house at 70 degrees (although we normally keep the house at 65 in the winter during the day, and 60 at night).
