1st Family Trip with a Pre-K'er, a 2 year old and a puking baby!

The Little Einsteins is Madeleine's absolute favorite! She sleeps with that rocket every night and it's the only show she will sit still for and watch. She told me she wants a rocket cake for her birthday this year as well (not sure how I'm going to do that :confused3). She's seriously in love with the Little Einsteins!

:rotfl: about the camera!!!

Found this link for you on how to make the Little Einsteins Cake.

Here's one more recipe I found ((No picture though, sorry))

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:

* 2 Boxes of white cake mix
* 3 cans of pre made vanilla frosting
* 2lbs confectioners sugar
* 16 oz mini marshmallows
* red food coloring
* blue food coloring2
* yellow food coloring
* 1 dum dum sucker
* olive oil
* eggs
* water

1.

Mix both cake mixes according to box directions. Pour cake batter evenly between the following pans:

2 9inch round
3 9inch loaf pans
1 mini loaf pan

Bake according to box directions making sure the cake is cooked (toothpick clean)

Let cakes cool
2.

Once the cakes are completely cool you have to cut both round cakes in half. Place 1 of the loaf sized cakes in between one of the cut in half round cakes. This will make a large oval shape. Cover the top in frosting and repeat above steps with other round and loaf cake.
3.

You now have the base of Rocket formed. Place the last 9 inch loaf cake on Rocket to make the top part of her. cut the mini loaf pan cake in half to place one half on each side of the cake for Rocket's engine. Cover entire cake in frosting again.
4.

Pour marshmallows into microwave safe bowl and add 3 tablespoons of water then microwave for 45 seconds. It should look soupy

Pour marshmallows into a large mixing bowl and add confectioners sugar. Mix. This will make a marshmallow frosting that is pliable and almost a Play-Doh consistency. Take 3/4 of the dough and knead in red food coloring. Roll out dough thin and place over the entire cake. Knead yellow and blue food coloring into the remaining dough after splitting it into 2 balls. Roll out and cut out windows and lights. Add a little olive oil on back of pieces to secure to the cake.

Lightly rub cake with a very small amount of olive oil to make it a little brighter
5.

Cover Dum Dum with some leftover red dough frosting and attach to top of rocket
6.

Place stickers of Annie, Leo, June and Quincy onto the cake.

Day 3 (Thursday, January 28th, 2010): Epcot Morning & Lunch at Biergarten

We were up and out of the house by 8am again for our first day at Epcot. I love Epcot, so was pretty excited. We had thought the kids might sleep in due to all the excitement from the day before, but everyone was awake at their normal times (7-ish). Since Rick would be picking his 17 year old daughter up from the airport at 8:35 this evening (more on her later) we decided that rather than return to the rental house for naps like we'd done the day before we'd stay at Epcot all afternoon and return in the early evening for an early bedtime for the kids.

Within 15 minutes of departing our rental house we were at the Epcot gates. They weren't letting people in yet, so we waited outside the turnstiles for a bit and then, once in, snapped this picture:

1-28-10Epcot.jpg

We had about 10 minutes before rope drop so stopped at the Guest Relations building and got the kids their First Visit buttons. I had wanted to do this the day before at MK, but we never ended up having time. The CM was pretty funny here and insisted on giving all of us buttons, only marking "3rd visit" on Rick's and "5th visit" on mine. Kind of defeats the purpose of a First Visit button, but it was cute. We put all of the kid's buttons on and from that moment forward Sam referred to it as his "medal" :laughing: and had to have it on at all times.

At rope drop we headed to Test Track only to find it down. Sam and I walked over to ride Mission Space instead while Rick took the other two to get FP's for Soarin'. Rick and I had ridden Mission Space on our last trip and had both found it to be pretty intense. Rick gets motion sickness anyway, but as someone who never does I was surprised to feel a bit queasy after riding. For this reason, I took Sam on the less intense version of the ride. Sam is very interested in outer space and is always telling us he is going to go there some day, so he was pretty interested in this attraction and really seemed to enjoy it.

Rick was waiting outside with the other two when we came out so we walked over to Test Track to see if it was back up. It was, and Rick and Sam walked right on. I got a Rider Swap while waiting and then rode with Sam when he came back out. After that Rick decided he wanted to try Mission Space with Sam on the more intense version (he had taken dramamine that morning) so I waited outside with Madeleine and Matthew while they rode. (It was a gorgeous day - short sleeves weather from mid-morning on, in the low to mid 70's and very sunny!). When they came out Rick was holding his stomach, despite the dramamine, but Sam was fine. We commented on how empty the park seemed and how nice it was that we hadn't had to wait for anything! Seriously, there was no one in the Test Track/Mission Space area! UG had rated the day a 4 and it just seemed really empty.

We walked over to The Seas with Nemo and Friends next and rode that twice, walked around and looked at the aquariums and then saw Turtle Talk With Crush (which I did based on recommendations from other DIS'ers, but my kids just weren't into it - maybe they were too young :confused3). After that we rode Spaceship Earth and then Rick and Sam tried Soarin' out for the first time. I don't know why I didn't take any pictures during the morning, but other than the one I took when we entered I didn't take any!

It was around 12:30 at this point and time for our first ADR of the trip at Biergarten! We hadn't eaten any meals "out" yet on the trip and were excited for some good food. We picked Biergarten because Rick and I are both half German, the food sounded delicious (I'm a vegetarian but found plenty to eat) and we hoped the music would entertain the kids long enough for us to eat in peace! I had also waitressed at a German restaurant throughout high school and college (wearing a dirndle and all!) and thought it would be fun. It didn't dissapoint. :thumbsup2 We were seated about 5 minutes after arriving and had just enough time to get ourselves and the kids served before the music began.

The cowbells:

The glockenspiel:

And then these magnificent instruments:

Sam and Madeleine were done eating within 10 minutes, as is usual for them, so I took them down to the dance floor. They had a blast!

1-28-10Biergarten7.jpg

1-28-10Biergarten6.jpg

The kids kept dancing while Rick and I enjoyed a leisurely meal with Matthew who was quite happy between his dinner and the music. He was bopping back and forth in his seat and clapping after each piece. We thought the food was great and Rick was enjoying a stein of German beer while I was loving my Riesling. The kids had loved the macaroni and cheese, the spatzle and the pretzel bread, I loved the cold salads (I could have made a meal on those alone!), spatzle, pretzel bread and potatoes, and Rick thought everything was fantastic. We all enjoyed the desserts as well - Bavarian Cheesecake, Apple Strudel, Vanilla Pudding and Black Forest Cake. Yum! We left very stuffed and very happy and agreed we would definitely eat there again on future trips.

Coming up next: Our trip around The World Showcase!

I keep hearing good things about Biergarten; I might have to put that one on my list! So glad you enjoyed your meal, and it sounds like it's been a great day so far!

Great update.

The pictures of the kids dancing are cute... I bet Reya would love that place. Might have to try it out sometime.

I am glad you had overall a good night in MK! Yay for seeing Tinkerbell :( for not seeing the fireworks and being stuck in the slow moving traffic out of MK. It will never cease to amaze me with the horror stories of rude people at Disney!! I admire your tact with him even though you could have said far harsher words to him. Nice way to cap off the night though! :thumbsup2:

That cake would be so adorable! If you do end up doing it (or even if you don't), I would love to see pictures from the celebration!!

Your rental house seems like it was in a great location. Do you mind me asking how you came about finding it?

Why do kids always wake up at the same time despite what time they get into bed? :confused3

EP: I do not do Mission Space! I do not even think I am going to try the Green version of it either. Way to brave it Sam!! What a great time in an empty EP!! I thought the entertainment at BG is nice but I think since I was feeling so so I did not really like the food? :confused: I am glad you had a great time there! :goodvibes: Cute pictures of the Sam and Madeleine! I am really glad you enjoyed your dinner (your first meal out!!) in WS! :yay:

You should try it sometime! Since I worked at the German restaurant I knew I would like the food. The chef where I worked, who was from Germany, made all of those cold salads they have at Biergarten and I always loved them. Our main goal was the entertainment for the kids though - anything that keeps them happy so we can eat longer is a good thing for us!

Hoping to post the update for the rest of our day this afternoon!

Great update.

The kids loved the music and dancing. It was the most food they ate at one time throughout our whole trip too!

I'm so glad we were able to see Tinkerbell. Madeleine was so excited! How would you like that to be your job?! We did have better experiences in seeing the fireworks later on during our trip (and some worse ones too - more on that later!).

The rudeness of that man still gets to me, but I'm sensitive like that. I kept wondering if I could have handled it better, but I did the best I could at the time.

DH said he'd try to make that cake with me, but I'll post pics regardless! Sam's birthday is March 16th and will be "Cars" themed, and Madeleine's is April 6th and will be "Little Einsteins" themed. The other night she told Rick she wanted a "Rocket birthday with a rocket cake and rocket presents and a rocket candle!" I think I can do all but the rocket candle!

I did a TON of research on rental properties before finding the house we stayed in. I studied the section on off-site properties in the Unofficial Guide, narrowed it down to what I felt was the best area, and then researched the actual properties from there. There's a ton of them, and I'd be happy to send you any links or information if you're interested.

My kids did not sleep in the entire trip!

As someone who had done both the green and orange versions of Mission Space, I would say you could totally do the green. It was fine - really! I thought it was pretty boring after having done the orange version. I find the orange pretty intense though. The wierd thing with Sam is that two days later when he did the orange version again he totally freaked out. I have no idea why he was fine the first time and panicked the second. :confused3 Next trip we'll just do the green and wait on orange until he's older.

Maybe you just don't like German food? If I weren't feeling great I wouldn't be able to stomach it, that's for sure!

Apparently an empty Epcot is too much fun for pictures! Sounds like you picked a great day! How did you keep the little ones entertained when you guys went on all the adult rides? Not sure what I'll do with the baby if DS is over 40 inches. (He won't be, he's short, but just thinking ahead!) Were they just content to be sitting in strollers, because they were in Disney? :lmao: I know, I know, but I'd be happy to be sitting on a bench doing nothing if I was in Disney!

I went on Mission Space once and never again. I didn't mind it, I love spinning rides so I don't get sick or anything, but I just thought it was terribly boring. I can't imagine how boring it would be without the spinning! DS would probably love it, but that has a higher height requirement, doesn't it? 44 inches or something?

Mmm you made Biergarten sound so delicious listing all those foods. I just ate lunch and you made me hungry again! I've never eaten there, but maybe next time I get the full dining plan I will. Any place where the kids can dance and I can eat is good in my book!

Can't wait to see how the rest of the afternoon goes!

Afternoon around the World Showcase at Epcot

After our lunch at Biergarten we got Matthew settled in for a nap in his stroller and he immediately fell asleep. Therefore, he will not be in most of the photos for our afternoon (other than as a blanket covered stroller!). We got the kids started on their Kidcot Masks while we were still in Germany:

1-28-10Kidcot2.jpg

Rick and I took turns browsing the store while they colored and when they were finished we let them pick out a candy from Germany. They chose gummy bears! Not too original, but it made them happy. :goodvibes

Upon leaving the store we paused for some photos in front of the fountain at Germany:

1-28-10Germany.jpg

We were all pretty full from our lunch and were really enjoying the Florida sunshine, so spent some time soaking it up here:

1-28-10Germany4.jpg

Then it was on to find the train:

1-28-10Germany5.jpg

1-28-10Germany6.jpg

The kids loved this and we spent much more time just hanging around in Germany than I had thought we would. Our only plan for the afternoon was to enjoy the World Showcase while Matthew napped, so we weren't in any hurry. When the kids were ready to move on we headed over to Italy, added a stamp and charm to the masks and took some photos in front of the fountain there:

1-28-10Italy.jpg

1-28-10Italy2.jpg

The kids absolutely loved the fountains and wanted change from us to throw into each. Note to self: next time bring more change! That was definitely a big hit for them.

While we were enjoying the fountain in Italy there was a family with two young boys eating ice cream on a stone bench nearby. The older of the two boys fell and smacked his head very hard and there was much screaming and blood everywhere. By the time we left Italy a little while later they had EMT's there and everything. I felt so bad for them! The poor boy was still screaming and there was blood all over his pants from his head. What a way to ruin a nice afternoon at Epcot. I sure hope he was okay.

Next up was The American Adventure. Soon after we arrived, this started:

1-28-10America.jpg

The kids, however, were more interested in this:

1-28-10America3.jpg

After the Fife & Drum Corps. was finished we found the Kidcot stop. The CM here was a little strange! There was no one there, so she was cleaning up and wiping the tables. She made us wait and wait and the kids were really getting antsy! I certainly don't mind waiting, but geesh!

We moved on to Japan next. Sam, Madeleine and I spent a lot of time on the waterfall path in Japan while Rick stayed with a sleeping Matthew down below.

1-28-10Japan2.jpg

When the kids had enough of the waterfalls we did the Kidcot stop and then they picked out a candy from Japan. I had wanted to get them a Kaki Gori, but I couldn't find the kiosk anywhere. (Passed it on our way back! Next trip I guess.) After we came out from the candy kiosk this started:

1-28-10Japan3.jpg

Very entertaining, but unfortunately it woke Matthew up when we had been hoping he would sleep a little longer. From here we walked over to Morocco. We did the Kidcot stop and then had to see this, of course:

1-28-10Morocco.jpg

At this point I was beginning to tire of walking around the Worlds and knew that France and UK were next, two of my favorites where I wanted to spend some time. Sam was also starting to ask when we would do more rides, so instead of continuing on we decided to head back to Future World to hit a few more attractions before heading out for the day. We had one and a half more days planned at Epcot so figured we'd have plenty of time to explore the rest of the Worlds at a later date. :laughing:

Instead of heading back to Future World the way we were going, we decided to turn around and go back the way we had come. I have no idea why we decided to do that since I can clearly see by looking at the map that it is longer that way! :confused3 Blame it on a worn out mommy I guess! At any rate, we started our trek back and couldn't resist a quick stop at The Outpost for some drumming:

1-28-10Outpost.jpg

And a stop in Mexico for this whacky picture in front of yet another fountain:

1-28-10Mexico.jpg

I have a picture of myself that dh took on our honeymoon, in this exact spot wearing one of these hats. Amazing to see what 7 years will bring! I'll try to dig it up and scan it to post it later if anyone's interested. Sam was itching for a ride so we did the boat in Mexico while we were there and it was enjoyed by all. Much rocking and clapping from Matthew. :) We had stopped at Norway to ride The Maelstrom on our walk back as well, but it had been down.

Once back in Future World Sam took me on Soarin' for the first time (he had ridden it that morning with Rick and we had picked up a Rider Swap then) while Rick took the other two back to Finding Nemo. Sam kept trying to trick me while we walked down, telling me all I was going to see was NY city and nothing else. He likes to be tricky like that. ;) I absolutely loved Soarin' and couldn't stop smiling the entire time. What an awesome attraction!!! :love: My new favorite ride! We met the others outside of Nemo and all went on again for one last ride of the day.

It was around 5:30pm at this point and we decided it was time to call it a day. On the drive back I again asked everyone about their favorite and least favorite parts of the day. For favorites, Rick, Sam and I all said Soarin'. Madeleine said, "The Fishy Ride" (Finding Nemo) and we all agreed Matthew had liked the Mexico boat ride the best. As for least favorite, Rick said he hadn't been feeling the greatest that day (news to me but a sign of things to come), I had been frustrated with trying to keep Madeleine and Matthew occupied in the basement of Soarin' while waiting for Rick and Sam to ride that morning (they really need a better way to get a Rider Switch for that ride than taking ALL of the children through that building, down the stairs and all the way to the back!), and Sam said he didn't like "the hot room" on "the fast car ride" (Test Track) but that he liked the rest of the ride.

We ordered a take-out pizza to be delivered to the house for dinner, put the kids to bed early and relaxed in the hot tub for a bit before Rick left for the airport to pick up his daughter and I headed to bed. All in all, another fantastic day!

Coming up next: The teenager and in-laws arrive for a day at MK. :scared1:

There definitely was not as much for Madeleine and Matthew to do at Epcot. They didn't seem to mind though and seemed content with snacks, people watching and playing around by the strollers wherever we were waiting. We'd also take them for a potty break (Madeleine)/diaper change (Matthew) at those times too. When we were at Soarin' the other parent would take them on Nemo and that worked well. If your DS is tall enough to ride stuff just get a Rider Swap - one parent rides with DS and the other waits with the baby and then swap (DS gets to ride twice!). Mission Space was 44 inches. Sam was just tall enough! We figure we'll have enough short kids to get Rider Swaps for many years to come!

On a side note, Rick and I are mulling over the possiblity of an adults only 3-night get-a-way to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival in October!! We feel a bit guilty about possibly going to Disney without the kids, but we haven't been away on our own since Matthew was born (He'll be 2 in August). The problem is childcare. Although both sets of parents are nearby, neither set is the type to keep the kids overnight. Hmmmmm..... Recently my mom mentioned that she and my dad might be willing to keep the kids overnight for our anniversary this year (in August) so we were thinking of asking if she could do it in October instead, and for 2 nights, and then asking Rick's parents to do 1 night. :worship:

I'm so excited just thinking about the possibility!!

Would you feel bad going without the kids? We'd only go to Epcot and we'd be doing all "boring" :rotfl2: things.

What a great trip with the puking exception. I have a question for you or anyone who can answer the question b/c I do not seem to be able to post a question myself: We have the DDP for myself, hubby, 5 and 8 yo and we also will have a 22 month old when we go who i know is not taken into account when paying for the DDP.....is she expected to just eat off of our plates or do they give her something too? Just curious. thanks to anyone who can answer! :)

I have read that she can eat off your plates! We didn't do the DDP, but anywhere we did eat at WDW our 18 month old could just eat off our plates. Our 2 year old could too, but we did order her something at one of the table service restaurants one time. Sometimes we would order our 18 month old a drink as well, but we almost always had juice boxes with us for him and our daughter.

DH and I went away for 3 nights when DS was 9 months old (POP). We went away for another 3 nights when he was 1.5yrs (US RPR) and we are going away in May (SSR) (shhh, Dh doesn't know) for 3 nights.
I have no problem leaving him with the grandparents. We usually do split up between the sets as you mentioned you might. I think DS actually has way more fun with them!

Sounds like your afternoon at Epcot was fun! (With the exception of the bleeding child! :scared: We had to take DS to first aid at Epcot TWICE on our last trip. Now I'm afraid it's an Epcot thing!)

Sounds like your kids had fun with the Kidcot masks! I love the mouth Sam is drawing on his, it's great! I don't know how these work, exactly. Would you explain it to me?

Those fountains are all so beautiful! Seems like you got lots of time to relax and soak in the atmosphere! That's the best way to do it!

And yes, we all want to see what subtracting 7 years and 3 kids does to your sombrero-wearing selves. So dig out that picture! :lmao:

Finally, I'm not sure I would tell them you are going to WDW, but if you would leave the kids for something else, then I don't see why this should be any different. I don't leave my kids with babysitters or anything yet, so it's not something that I would do personally, but if I did leave them with babysitters and grandparents and such I wouldn't have any problem with it. I'm sure they'll have lots of fun without you, or that's how they'll see it anyway! :laughing: So I vote, go and have fun!

If you don't mind sending me information about the rentals, I would love to look through it. Obviously not for this upcoming trip in September but I would like to go back in May if possible. I have toyed around with different options and won't mind looking at off-site properties because it would be just my family.

It looks like you had a great time in Epcot this first go around! Soarin' is my favorite attraction!! :love: I remember getting confused in EP-WS my first trip. I am hoping by looking and prepping this time around I might remember more about the order.

Heck no--do not feel bad for wanting a just the two of you trip! DH and I have talked about it too. We would love to go after Thanksgiving to see holiday decorations and spend time going into the resorts to see them decorated. :goodvibes:

Kelrykengab: any child too young to be on the DDP can eat off an adult's plate or share a meal with another child. You will have the option of buying a meal OOP if you decide you would like to do so.

Great update.

What is up with kids and fountains?!? LOL... My DD feels like she has to stop at each one and splash her hands around in them. I have a million pictures from our last trip with her doing that. Which reminds me I need to add anti-bacterial soap to my packing list. THANKS FOR THE REMINDER. :thumbsup2

Looking forward to more as usual!
