Toasters in the rooms

Only if you have a kitchen in your room.

We bring a toaster all the time. We have stayed at the All Star, Pop Century and Caribbean Beach with no problem. We don't leave the toaster out when not in use, but pack it away in a tote.

Just wondering if you can bring a toaster from home...will Disney allow that?

The official answer is no heating appliances, toasters, coffee pots, microwaves etc in rooms that do not have electrical with safety shut-offs to support them.

You'll get a variety of answers. But that's the official answer.

Don't know where you are staying but there are toasters in the resort food court that you could use, at least at the moderates and values.

We just use the toaster in the food court.

We've also popped popcorn and made macaroni & cheese in the microwave.

But don't the blow dryers get plugged into those kinds of outlets, with the safety shut off? So you could plug a toaster into the outlet at the sink.

If the toaster shorts out and causes a fire, make sure to have your running shoes on, and don't stop at the security gate, either...

At home, yes, there are GFI outlets next to sinks in both kitchens and bathrooms. Yes, you can plug hair dryers, toasters, etc. into GFI outlets.

The difference between a blow dryer and a toaster is in the toaster there is an extra added element of fire, due to a crumb becoming an ember which continues to burn, even after the toaster has been turned off. Add to it, that a PP puts it in a tote bag before they leave the room - that ember could continue to burn the toaster and the tote bag and start a fire. Luckily, all the rooms have sprinklers as provided by code, and it would most likely put the fire out before doing massive damage to other rooms.

If toasters were allowed in the standard rooms, then the resort would provide them. All appliances provided by the resort would put the liability of ensuring the appliance was in sound working order and would not cause any undue damage on the resort - if it didn't work for some reason, then the resort would be liable for damages.

Now, if you are bringing an appliance from home, because it is not provided in the room or allowed in the room, you are now assuming the liability. The resort does not have any control over the use and the age of the appliance, or what occurs when you are in/not in the room.

If you use the toaster, in a room where the resort does not provide it, and there is an ember which continues to burn after you leave the room, and it causes a fire - you take on the liability of the damage and the resort is no longer at fault.

You can however have appliances in the room that are provided by the resort/hotel. They assume the liability because they ensure they are in working order, and if not - then they become liable.

If you bring in an appliance from home, because it is not provided by the resort (usually done for a reason), then you take on the liability of all subsequent damages.

Too funny :lmao: But seriously, why bother. As a previous poster noted, you can use the toaster in the food courts at the values and moderates. It just isn't worth putting lives and property at risk for a piece of toast.

TC.

...get a lawyer, since once the Fire Inspector determines the cause you would be charged and even worse if someone would loose their life..you might be charged with felony criminal charges too.

Well said. :) (now if it is for a warm POP :lovestrucTart...that's a different story;))

If this is a matter of not wanting to buy meals at the food court, I think you should just bring your own bread and toast it using the food court's toaster. Sure, it's an added walk, but it's definitely safer than bringing your own toaster.

I'll repeat (more or less) what I said when a similar question was asked last week:

PLEASE DON'T. But if you absolutely must, UNPLUG it, let it cool completely, and empty the crumb tray before EVERY time you leave the room.

Public Service Announcement from a DISer whose former employer experienced THREE toaster fires in two months.

Thank you so much for reminding people that it can happen and will happen.

Working as an architect for many years, I am now a construction manager for facilities management in the government. We often have entire buildings cleared because an employee toasted something, left the room, and some of the crumbs sat in the bottom of the toaster and started smoking. The fire alarm goes off and then the sprinklers go off, which we have to reset. In a fourteen story building, this is a great deal of work.

It would be equally annoying in a hotel setting as well.

Not to mention if a real fire did start, the damage it could do - just not worth it to save a couple of bucks or a short walk to the food court.
