turner, yes, there is smoking in the parks. check out the maps with the DSAs listed, and print them out ahead of time for your parents. the DSAs are also listed on the park maps you get at the front gates.
hubby and I both smoke, but he smokes a LOT. we never stay off site. when they instituted the no smoking rooms, I wondered if he would change his tune... NO WAY! he loves staying onsite so much, we just deal with it.
the deluxe resorts are the most difficult for smokers. you have to leave your room, walk down a long hallway, to the elevator, walk to the outside, etc etc.

now the moderate and value resorts are much more smoker friendly. if you request a ground floor, close to a DSA, you should be good. then, at checkin, ask again to see that room on the map and the DSAS. you don't have to take the first room they offer you. we often say,
"what else have you got?"
carribean beach has DSAs just about by every building. and most of the tables by the pool bar are smoking.
Port orleans, riverside has dsas at every quiet pool, one by the main pool, and others throughout.
pop century has them all along the lake. don't stay in the 70s, there is none there.
you could rent a villa or 2 studios at saaratoga springs or key west, orrent points (it's a DVC). they are smoker freindly, a dsa outside every building. (rumour has it people have been known to smoke on the balconies.)
the cabins at fort wilderness. I have never stayed there, but you can smoke on the decks of your cabin.
If you have all the maps printed out for them, with the dsas, they should feel better about it. good luck!!
there are maps of the resorts, too, with the DSAs.
