Weird weight loss results

OK. First I need to say I started on South Beach when I weighed 154 pounds and I am 5'3. I now weigh 126. And I have only lost one pants size (down to a 10)...is that really normal? How does someone as small as I am lose 28 pounds and only go down one pants size? I am just really frustrated now and am wondering if anyone else's weight loss went like this.

Congrats on losing those 28lbs!!! :cool1: I think everyone loses weight differently, so it's kind of hard to compare yourself with other people. For example, I am 5'4" and 140lbs, but wear a size 8. Maybe you lost all of that weight from the top part of your body first. Are you working out? I wouldn't worry too much about it, maybe incorporate some lower body workouts to tone up (squats, lunges, leg lifts) if you are not already doing so.

I agree, don't worry about it! I always lose weight in my upper body first. Kepp on going and do some strength work for sure and I hope you will get the results you want!

For the past couple of weeks I have been doing total gym lower body exercises and squats. I dunno, I am not really 'worried' about it so much as mystified that I can lose that much weight and only one pants size. My upper body is incredibly skinny, so hopefully I have no more to lose up there so my body will start taking the lower body weight away. My goal is 120, so I guess 6 pounds off the waist/upper thighs could lose a few pants sizes.

My guess is that because you are doing SBD, you lost lean muscle mass and tons of water (and water from your muscles) as opposed to fat. You also likely depleted your glycogen stores and there went a lot of pounds without a lot of size. See what happens when you add all of your carbs back in.

I think you are thinking of another diet. I've been eating alot of carbs for months now. You just limit where they come from to mostly whole grains, fresh fruits, and vegetables.

I have been on the South Beach Diet as well and I have lost about 40 pounds and went from a size 16 to a size 12. I thought it was strange as well. I look much better and have been walking almost daily so I am starting to tone up, but I thought I would be in a much smaller clothing size. SO, now I am focusing on my health rather than my size and number on the scale to avoid being discouraged. My goal was to be in a 10, and I assume when I reach my weight goal I will be. However, I envisioned magically this diet would change my body to a bikini body as long as I kept following it, like it says in the front of the book, LOL! J/K.. I do think if I lost 40 pounds it would result in more size losses than just two. BUT, keep up the good work!:thumbsup2

I think part of this depends on the manufacturer. I am 5'3 and wear a 14 I was a 16 but lost 15 lbs. Knowing my weight I think this is really stupid because when I was in high school I weighed 30 lbs LESS than I do now and wore a 14 and I exercised every day. As we all know middle age does not make our bodies less spread out so go figure! If I wear Ralph Lauren I can wear a 12 if I wear Ann Taylor I can wear a 14 and if I wear Wal-Mart I can do a 14. What is funny is that a friend of mine gave me a straight dress that she was not going to wear. It was a classic style and in a 14 it would be my little black dress. Thing is it did not even come close to fitting!Like there was a good 5 inches between the zipper. It was a Jones but about 10 years old (never worn and still in style). Point is sizes have changed and all manufacturers are not created equal. If you think about it years ago there was no size 0 or even a 2! Smallest I remember was a 3/4 (for a brief time in my life). So if you figure they made a 3/4 a 2 then a 2 is a 0 and if you go to the top if the size chart they pushed all the sizes down so a 14 is closer to a 16 and a 12 is really a 14. If you look good just forget the size!
