POP or Port Orleans?

I'm thinking about cancelling my deluxe dining and switching to one of the PO resorts. Do any of you think that might be a better switch? I figure with the 20% PIN I got, I should be able to eat at all the restaurants I want (if I'm able to get ADRs) and not have to feel overloaded on food, or that I'm spending too much.

Then, if I do switch, should I do Riverside or FQ? Both look amazing to me, and the only con to me switching is that they share a bus, which would then make me lean towards FQ. But then I really like the "mansions" that are at POR.

Any advice/suggestions? Thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

We stayed at POR in 08. We were in the mansions section and it was great. A very relaxing resort away from the hustle and bustle. The boat ride to DTD was great as well.

We went in Oct. so crowds were light and we rarely shared buses. In fact I remember only one time did we go to FQ - that was going to a park. We never shared on the way home. I want to say that we were near the East depot.

We're headed back this Oct and are trying somewhere else - just for the experience. Most likely POP. We have 2 little ones who would enjoy the theming.

Thanks, disneyderns! So, since I'm going the tail end of September, it should be similar, crowd-wise?

The first hotel I stayed onsite at was POR back when is was Dixie Landings... It's a lovely resort. Much more lush and peaceful than the crisp quirky edge that Pop has...

Deluxe dining you could double up and hit all 2 TS places every other night...

But ultimately you could eat cheaper off the dining plan... Can you do PO and counter service plan? Or Pop and a lessor plan and use the saved money to go to Cirque?

If you can take advantage of the resort and kick back and relax there, I say go for PO, if your just going to sleep there and have a go go go vacation, stay at Pop....

If you do switch, we prefer FQ of the two. we did find that the buses came to our resort before going to POR so we always had a seat!

We had a lovely corner room close to the food court, and was quiet and that was nice. We would def stay there again.

Staying at pop for the first time next month!

We've stayed at all the mods, except POR and we prefer FQ over all of them for it's small size, only 1 bus stop & overall atmosphere. I had no desire to stay at POR after watching all of the people boarding the bus after us who had to stand most of the way because the bus was so full, we also got dropped off first. I like FQ because you don't have to walk a mile to get to the bus stop, food court and gift shop, everything is close no matter what your room assignment and after a long day walking in the parks, the last thing I want to do is hike around the resort.

That's what we do.... We rarely spend anytime at the resort..so, we stay on the cheap and use the saved money elsewhere to enjoy our trip! :goodvibes Good luck!

We stayed at FQ in 2008 and we loved it.

It has a lovely local feel about it and had a wonderful atmosphere. People were wandering around in their pajamas later on at night heading for hot chocolate from the food court.

There is no bad location as everything is so close.

We always have a car so never use the transportation but people we spoke to thought it was good and I`m sure someone said they had their own bus, not shared with POR but I`m not 100% sure I`m right with that. It was in Sept/Oct.

Both are lovely but FQ just had the edge for us :thumbsup2

We're with Laurabears and bubba's mom on this one ... if you're going to spend most of your time at the parks, do Pop and maybe switch to just the base dining plan rather than the deluxe (I've heard the deluxe plan is just too much food) ... but if you want to spend time at your resort relaxing, then go for PO.

And remember, Pop doesn't share their buses with any other resort.

a tough one, i've never sprung for DDP, figure I come out ahead paying OOP for an extra TS meal or 2.

I've never done POP, my fav value is Music standard Jazz bldgs (less kids, nice pools & so relaxing), otherwise i'd go w/Movies & Duck bldg (close to bus stop @ music & their amentities too).

That said, we really like POR FQ! Main pool was great, boat to DTD (which we never did do lol) & quite romantic. A peaceful respite @ the end of the day, oh so different vibe than the Values. I hear they're supposed to get Queen beds too:wizard:.

Problem w/Riverside is you cannot be guaranteed bayou or mansion:confused3otherwise, the mansions would've been my 1st choice; despite that section of the resort being absolutely huge. I'd hate to get stuck so far from bus/food court/main pool, etc.

so, what r u going to do?

DH and I stayed at POR in January and POP in September. Although POP was fun we much preferred POR. DH even said that he would have enjoyed the September trip that much more if we had stayed at POR. He hates the heat, and said the shaded bus stops, and extra foliage would have made the trip for him when the weather was 90 plus degrees. The bus stops at POP have ZERO shade.

Thanks for the help! I'm thinking about keeping my Pop w/DxDP. Or...lol, I can possibly squeeze my budget into a stay at AKL with regular dining. I've always wanted to stay there, its an absolute beuatiful place (ate Boma there last year). But then I'd only have $400-$500 spending money. I know, I'm very fickle.

I would stay at Riverside. If has the only full service restaurant: Boatwright's. It only serves dinner now. I would think going in early September a lot of families (children) will be going back to school. My wife and I will be staying there over Thanksgiving.

AKL would be #1:), book standard room & beg for savannah lol...it could happen

better yet, find a DVC member & rent points/ressie (not me, im tapped out:laughing:). I do know u like to switch things around;)me too, once u rent a ressie ur pretty much locked into it depending on the member.

We've stayed at POP many times and been happy although my favorite value resort is AS Music. We stay there when we want a fun place to stay and will be doing mostly parks and other activities. I love how the values are decorated although my DS20 has started asking "why do you always pick here???" with my inevitable reply of "because it's fun and that's what I come here for!"

On the other hand, for my b-day trips and trips that DH will be on, I try to pick POR. :cloud9: This place is perfect!!! Peaceful, boatride to DTD, great rooms, fun pool, DH's favorite of all the resorts, and did I mention the boatride to DTD.... we love the mansions section.

We've stayed at POFQ but really just don't like that one. Out of all the resorts, it is our least favorite. It's not as lush as the other mods and I really don't think it stands up to the others.

As far as AKL, it is a beautiful place! It would be a great place for you to stay, but I love having spending money, however, it really depends on what I'm planning on buying if I NEED more than $500. If it's Christmas time, then yes, I NEED more!! :lmao: If I don't need more tshirts and "stuff", then I don't need much.

Have fun on your trip!!!

I'd go with POR and basic DDP. Deluxe DDP is way too much food for us.
We stayed in POR last Aug, in mansion section - Magnolia Terrace. Great location, very central to everything. We had good bus service at POR, love the boat to DTD, and Bob Jacksons show at River Roost. Liked the food court too.
We had our building request on our reservation, and sent a fax to resort room assigner 4 or 5 days before arrival.

How many days are you going for? DH and myself enjoy both Pop and POR:lovestruc What we have don a couple of times and we will be doing it again on our next trip is we stay at Pop for 3 nights with the Dxdp and POR with quick service. We checked into Pop on a Saturday and checked out Tuesday morning, keep in mind that the Deluxe Dining is good until your check out day, so the Deluxe is good until Tuesday midnight. We bring our luggage to the bell area and tell them you would like it sent to POR. We go to DTD for a couple of hours and then go to POR. Check in and so far they have had our luggage at the bell area already. We enjoy POR. We enjoy being in the mansion area. We also like the food court in POR better then POFQ because it is a lot larger then the one at POFQ with a larger service area and sitting area. As far as bus service there seems to be no rhyme or reason. We have been on the bus many times and it usually picks up at the front of POR first, goes to the back stops (POR as 4 bus stops) and then sometimes it goes right to the park other times it has gone over to POFQ:confused3 Yet some people at POFQ say it stops there first and then comes over to POR that is why I say no rhyme or reason:)

I should also mention that it is just my husband and myself no little ones so I don't know if you have little ones with you it might be more difficult to do a split stay:goodvibes
