Late dinner seating for Meditteranean cruise -do you get back in time for dinner?

I almost always choose the early dining rotation when I cruise, but even though the early seating was still available for the Meditteranean cruise that I'm on (August 27th 2011), I decided to do the late seating hoping that we will get back to from excursions w/ enough time to make it to dinner.

Just wondering from anyone who has done the Med. cruises, if they made it back from excursions in time for dinner -- I noticed the excursions for Rome and for Naples were pretty much 11-12 hours long. So, I'm not sure if we'll even get back in time for the late seating???

I'm sure it will all depend on what you choose to do for the day. We always do the late dinner seating but I know onboard time in a couple of the Med ports isn't until 9:00. We are planning to do private tours in those ports & I hope we can arrange to be back to the ship by say 7:00 or so in order to have time to grab a quick shower & change for dinner. I just hope that neither of those nights end up being our formal night!! IF we miss dinner then we'll hit Topsiders or order room service. I'd rather make sure we see everything we want in these ports than worry about making dinner.

They also were rather lenient with dinner times on the Rome and Florence days. I remember being told that it didn't matter if we were running a bit late or were still in our touring clothes, that they would still let us in the rotation dining room. I don't recall missing our regular dinner (except for Palo night) on that cruise and my friend and I had full day excursions booked for Rome and Florence.

I had late seating, but I think since quite a few people skipped dinner in the dining rooms (tired, probably) they were being flexible with the early diners, too.
