I want to run the Disney's Half Marathon before I turn 40 I am currently 38years old, and I am in ok shape. I know I can run a half marathon but I have never entered one before. I planning to start a journal of all of my runs starting today. I will try to find a running plan that will help me reach my goal. I also plan to lose about 15 - 25 pounds in the process of reaching my half marathon goals. I currently weigh 220 and I am 6 feet tall, must people have no ideal that I am over weight. The format I plan to follow is every run entered on the day of the run, ( date, distance, time, pace, and calories burned) I am using my Nike Ipod running chip to help me keep track of this info. I am very open to helpful ideals from everyone and hope to see you at the finish line.

Good for you!! I had the same goal, and ran this year at Disney (I turn 40 this November). I will have done the DL 1/2 as well as that is in September.

Feel free to pop on over to the events/competition board to join the rest of us crazy runners and walkers. Also, you may want to put your log over on the journal page.

Welcome again and good luck!!

way to go! you are already pretty quick!
throw in some strength training as well and you will see faster results

Thanks, I was afraid to do strength training I was thinking it would add body weight. I would really like to get under 200 lbs.

Is this the journey that you are talking about. (Running for Freedom(of the Seas) The Journey Begins Today!)

That is my journal. Feel free to read and comment if you would like. Post your own journal, invite others to read and comment if you would like. There are a lot of folks like us, who set a goal to run a Disney race.

Thanks for the info

JMO, so take it for what it is worth, but strength training is an essential part of fitness, and weight is really just about the most irrelevant metric (other than maybe BMI) when you are judging fitness. We all get hung up on the scale, no doubt.

For example, after I finished the DLHM last Fall, I was 210 (I'm 6'3"), and relatively happy at that weight. I was still having physical problems however, primarily back issues. A friend suggested I try p90x to stengthen my core, which would address those issues. 6 months later, I'm actually 5 lbs heavier, but leaner, fitter, and running back pain free.

The point is that putting all of your fitness eggs in one basket (e.g., cardio) is ultimately counter-productive. You need a fullly rounded regime to get in the best shape possible. Just running, or just lifting weights, is not going to get you where you want to be

Anyway, great job so far, and keep running, it was a tremendously rewarding experience for me to run my first HM last year (at age 36) and I'm looking forward to my next one is just a little more than a week.

Thank you that make sense. I think I will look into the P90X program.

Good luck on achieving your goal!

I am considering the Princess half-marathon in March 2011 (if it's the same time frame as in 2010), and I'll be 6 weeks away from turning 55! :scared1: I will probably WALK - not run!

Very cool goal! I would like to do the 1/2 marathon in a couple of years too. Right now I'm working up to a 5K in june.
I was curious to hear how you like the Nike chip...thing. Is it easy to use?
