OK, So I have a pop up hamper (small-ish), an over the door shoe holder for essentials, passports (in hand) and I'm ready to make a fish extender any day (if my group agrees to participate)... is it necessary to bring a princess costume for DD on a 3 day cruise???? Oh yea, and is there anything else I'm missing???? :rotfl:
(My hubby already thinks I'm crazy, we don't sail until April 8th, but the DIS Boards have NEVER steered me wrong, he just doesn't know how great he has it because of you all!)

I've never been on a 3 day, but no I wouldn't say the costume was necessary. It would make a nice picture with a princess character especially if that is something your DD is really into. But if you find yourself packing too much that would be the first thing I would leave behind:thumbsup2

Is it necessary to bring a princess dress for your little princess? No. But is it a nice thing to do if she's really into princesses? Sure. If you have room. There are always girls running around the ship, in line for photos, or eating dinner in their princess dresses.

My DD has several princess dresses, but each is a very simple dress that compresses nicely into a small ziploc bag, so I pack each dress in a separate ziploc bag (with any accessories) so they don't take up much room. If the dresses were bigger or poofier, it might be more difficult. We haven't done the 3 day cruise, but even on the 4 nt cruise she had plenty of time to wear her princess dresses.

Just wanted to add that we've cruised 4 times and have yet to use the shoe holder thingy though we've brought one on each cruise and there were 4 of us in the room.

The hamper is a nice idea but only if you have room, and I may look into one for our longer cruises. But honestly, on a 3nt cruise, a plastic bag from the gift shop or something similiar would work just as well to stash dirty clothes for the 2 days until it's time to pack. I would drop one or both of those items before I'd drop out the princess dress (again, if you have one and your DD likes princesses.) But that's just my recommendation.

** note to self ** add princess dresses to the packing list :lmao::lmao::lmao: My little one LOVES princesses.... She thinks she IS a princess! :rotfl2: It won't take up too much room I'd imagine, I'm a really good packer. (Well, I think so, just don't ask DH). I saw a pic from another DIS'er and I saw Princess Tiana. She would just DIE if she got to see her!! But from what I understand they rotate princess, so you can't be sure who will be on your particular trip. Mum's the word!
Also, can we pre-request extra shampoo and conditioner. I have super think, super curly hair. I want it on hand so I can have it after I swim. I can't imagine sitting there in that tiny state room waiting for more shampoo or conditioner. Do you think it would be better for me to bring my own??? (Just trying to save packing space for those princess dresses.)

On our last cruise Friend and I just left a not in Staterrom with our request for extra, plus we would hit up and room stewerd we saw if we knew we were goning to was hair. My poor DH even got sent on a few shampoo runs for us.

Hi there HallsofVa :yay:
Liking the snow;)

We actually got a lot of use out of the over the door shoe holder. While there is plenty of space for storing things it helped us keep things we needed in an easy to see and reach place:confused3

I put things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair brush, hair ties, make-up, etc so that I could get ready in either half of the bathroom that was open. Plus the KTTW cards, cameras, sun screen, etc that we would forget to take with us if they were out of sight in the drawers. Plus I got them at walmart where they were folded up pretty flat and didn't take up much space in my luggage.

My DH and I are not the most organized so it worked great for us:goodvibes
But obviously not necessary for every family:thumbsup2

As for the shampoo ...I've heard people with very thick hair say they prefer to bring their own shampoo:confused3

I've found their shampoo fine for my hair though:thumbsup2
Just let your stateroom host know on the first day to bring extra:thumbsup2

Yea for princess dresses! Princess T was on both of our cruises in December and January, but they were also showing her movie as the feature on both cruises. She was absolutely stunning, as was her dress! If you don't bring a dress and feel compelled to buy one, the dresses onboard were $60-$65 each! Ouch!

For the shampoo and conditioner, DCL provides you with bigger than normal sizes of shampoo, conditioner and lotion from H2O+ SPA line. I don't think you'd have any worries about running out (as you might in a regular hotel) but your room steward should be willing to give you an extra bottle. I just checked, and each one is 2.7oz which is a good size. We still have 1/2 bottle of shampoo left, 3/4 bottle of conditioner, and most of the lotion left from a recent cruise which was either the 4 or 7 nt (I can't remember). I'd only bring your own if you were very picky or concerned about how those products would work on your hair.

We use a 2 smaller "Shower Caddy" type ones. Sure is nice to have things in a place of there own. :thumbsup2 Maybe I should put one out as a FE.

Oh yeah...Take the princess dress.

I love my over the door shoe holder--for toiletries, camera, sunscreen, etc....many of the "Mom, where is....items" go in there.

Princess costume. Necessary, no. Will she want it--absolutely.
Hamper--you'll need something for dirty clothes, whether a designated suitcase or whatever. We each choose to organize our staterooms differently, but you can get lots of good ideas here. I have one small folding suitcase that I bring along to serve as a dirty clothes bag. The other suitcases go under the bed. Another way to make more storage is to put the life vests under the bed which frees up the top closet shelf.

Shampoo....good luck. In the past, it was readily available. On my last cruise, I asked our host--he didn't have any on his cart and promised to get me some. It never came. They're treating it like liquid gold these days. They are 2.75 ounce containers, so they do last for several days unless you have teens (hee hee). It also meets the airline requirements for sizes. In normal cabins you get shampoo and condition along with body butter from the H2O Spa line. Suites get 3 additional products.

For extra shampoo, conditioner and lotion - no worries! You will most likely see your stateroom host/hostess that first afternoon - just let them know and they will put a 2nd bottle in your room. When our bottle in the shower hit half I found a new bottle by the sink.

Does anyone have a pic of the shampoo or conditioner? (for size est.) Like I said, I have loooooong, curly, thick hair. I am bringing some tear free stuff for my DD, I can use her shampoo if need be so I probably will just need extra conditioner. I am tempted to bring my own (especially if they are going to be stingy with it) but like I said before, I would like to save packing room.
AS far a luggage goes, where do you store it while you are cruising????

I haven't found the stateroom hosts to be stingy with the bath products, just ask and you will get more. I believe they are 2 to 3 oz size containors.

Luggage, store it under the bed. you lift up the end or the size of the bed and slide it under. Then set the bed back on top of it. We put smaller bags inside the big bag and then slide the big one under the bed. (Note, we did have to lift the bed first).

I wouldn't bring a pop up hamper for a 3 night cruise unless you have extra room. I use a large mesh laundry bad. It packs really small and I just cinch up the top and toss the entire thing into its own suitcase. When I get home its easy to find all the dirty clothes. Clean clothes get put away and dirty clothes go straight to the washing machine. :thumbsup2

Princess T was on our 4 night 1/17/10 cruise....she is stunning. I will post pics later when I upload.....

Our friend's little princess brought 4 princess dresses....one for each night at dinner. It was well worth it!!! She loved dressing up each night and meeting the different princesses!!!
