Tink Got Me My Very Own Sharpies!- A Surprise Bday TR (3/8 Final Thoughts)

I should mention that Jackson didn't love to read in K. It was really a struggle at first. He always loved me to read to him (even super long books like Harry Potter).

He seems to be a lot like A. He was begging for a movie and I told him that if he learned to use the potty, he could have it (thinking I would not have to purchase the movie for a while). He decided right then and there he was potty trained. Same thing with pacifier, bottle, walking. He just gets something and takes off without looking back. The day he discovered he could take a step was the last day he crawled.

Looking back, I guess reading was like this too. I don't remember the struggle at first because he just loves it now. don't get me wrong, he will take his DS over a book any day, but DS time is very limited. Don't give up hope, she will probably jump right in.

I found Amelia Bedelia books difficult for Jackson. He didn't understand terms like "draw the drapes" and other things that made the book funny. I spent more time explaining why it was funny than we did reading. It was a good lesson in vocab, but just added to the frustration of learning to read too. Junie B Jones sometimes is spelled the way she talks, and not the correct spelling of the word. J could easily figure those things out and her struggles were right on target with how J felt. Even now, he asks me to read to him sometimes.

Ohana outfits- I picked up a light blue fabric that I think will work for the hawaiian print. I love the ones that you found at your JoAnns, but I already both the other, so I will make it work. Cooper has requested hula/elvis/stitch and Jackson wants Donald with a surfboard. I can really only find Minnie or Lilo in hawaiian theme. Who do you think Ash would prefer?

Thanks for more back up on the reading thing. This weekend we worked at reading baby books that she definitely knows all the words to and she was so thrilled. I also had her use her Tag and do the "point to each word" thing AFTER she tried sounding it out to see if she got it right. She liked that too. I really just need to make it a priority to do a little each day. Sometimes life gets in the way of that :sad2:

Aisling loves Lilo but AGAIN (and I know this will fall on deaf ears), she doesn't HAVE to have something for O'Hana! Everyone is going to think you are my sister and that they are cousins you know! And then we will speak and totally confuse them!!!! LOL!

Good Heavens, WHERE HAVE I BEEN?? :faint:

I didn't recognize your TR title, I suppose....

Oh BAD DIS-friend! Bad, Bad DIS-friend!! :sad2:

Thank Goodness you've got links so I can catch up quickly.....

Kathy

Yay Me!! All caught up!!

My heart went out to you when you dropped your lense... your pix are still way better than mine if that makes you feel a teeny bit better!

Awesome Birthday!

Welcome back Kathy :welcome: Good job catching up that quickly! I've got the next days' pics loaded into PB so i need to start writing!

So glad you had some success over the weekend! I hear you - it is so hard to find time for everything between work, school and other stuff. Just know that any amount of time you spend will help even if you can only squeeze in five minutes.

Your mini-meet sounds like fun! I really want the D&B bag with the Mickeys on it. Can you buy yourself a valentine's present? :rotfl:

Can you buy yourself a valentine's present? :rotfl:

Well no one else is going to :lmao:

No, I'm really trying to be good and save up the $419 I need for my new lens before May. We are getting a nice tax refund but that's "house" money and I'm trying to save out of my own spending money. Problem is that Aisling always seems to take up all my "own" spending money with all the little "$1 for this/ $5 for that" things with school :headache: Randy told me to take it out of the tax money but I'm trying to be a more financially responsible person in 2010 ;) :rotfl:

When I last left you, we were ending a long birthday celebration at MK. Since we had two long days and had been up before the sun two mornings in a row- we decided to sleep in. No rushing this morning. However, we were at Disney so nobody slept too late ;)

We got dressed leisurely and had some breakfast in the room. I can not confirm or deny that some of us ate a bite of Aisling's rice krispie Mickey head as part of our breakfast ;)

Since we had gotten in late, Aisling hadn't showered when we got back to the room. She didn't want to shower when she woke up either. She wanted to wait until the afternoon. This meant that she came up with her own creation for her hairdo for today. Hey- it's her hair! She also decided that she was sick of her birthday button and didn't want to wear it anymore.

We were heading out to a park that requires a lot of walking so Aisling did some stretching

096.jpg

With that wild print FOTLK dress we could only be heading for one place :rolleyes1

We had a very short to-do list at AK. We had big evening plans and were going to skip AK altogether this trip but SOMEONE wanted to eat at Yak and Yeti again ;)

We made our plan ahead of time and all everyone really wanted to definitely do was hit the Safari, EE, and FOTLK. That's it. So off with went. When we arrived at the park, it was PACKED. Really packed. Way more packed than I had ever anticipated. It was at this point that I was rethinking the whole Tour Guide Mike thing. Maybe I should have joined

Now we ALWAY hit the safari first thing at AK. We had learned our lesson back in the day when Randy and I went to WDW sans Aisling that the animals are most active early in the morning and late in the day. Randy and I rode the safari one time in the middle of the afternoon and saw barely any animals. Let me tell you the whole storyline is really lame if you don't see elephants at all!

But with the look of the crowd, we figured we better hit up EE and get some fast passes. Which we did. Only issue with that is you are really going back and forth a lot. Aisling wasn't too thrilled with that.

We did stop on the way for our PP pics with the Tree of Life

And you can't wear a baby simba dress without a pic with baby simba

We got our fast passes to EE without incident. On the way back, we noticed that there was a PP photographer out taking pics with the mountain in the background. We hadn't gotten these shots before so we stopped. She took a LOT of pics

ak6.jpg

ak9.jpg

ak7.jpg

ak8.jpg

She then told Aisling that she had a special picture to do with her. Since I was only aware of the Baby Simba pic at AK...even I didn't know what was going to be in her hands until we got home and looked at the PP pics online

ak10.jpg

(doesn't Ash look thrilled?!?! :rotfl:)

As always, I took a TON of pics of the Safari. I won't bore you with them. You know what animals look like. But here are a couple

First time we had ever actually seen an ostrich. Frankly, I always thought those eggs were fake since they are ALWAYS in the same spot. Nope!

135.jpg

After two weeks on safari, Aisling decided to add an item to the itinerary. She forgot she wanted to see the Gorillas. So we headed for the trail

140.jpg

When we done with that, we walked along leisurely and Aisling did a bunch of pin trading. We walked past It's Tough to Be a Bug and Ash asked to add another thing to the intinerary :rolleyes1 I was leary since the last time we did this attraction, she had to be taken out of the theatre (in fairness, she was 2) But she did much better this time around.

142.jpg

At this point, I checked the time and figured that we had enough time to hit EE before lunch. Especially since Yak and Yeti was in Asia anyway.

145.jpg

146.jpg

I really wanted to get a shot of the park from the top of the ride but at the last second, I chickened out. One camera incident was enough for me this trip :rolleyes1

147.jpg

(you can kinda see me behind Aisling and Randy looking like I've been smacked in the face by the Yeti!)

We got off the ride and we had 5 minutes to get to our ADR. And of course Randy and Aisling both announce they have to go potty. SERIOUSLY. You can't hold it until we get to the restaurant????

We ended up having to run to Yak and Yeti. And let me tell you....it was HOT out. As we all know, AK is the hottest place in WDW and it was warm this day. We needed a big drink as soon as we sat down. And they didn't disappoint

151.jpg

(they are shaved ice scoops that they pour a flavored martini over!)

Lunch was good but I wasn't feeling it as much as a I did on the last trip. It might have been the running AFTER riding EE. We got the pot stickers for an app. Randy had the Sweet and Sour Chicken and I had the lettuce cups for my meal (you can do that if you pay OOP...not with the DDP- we were using my MyPoints card to pay for this meal).

We split the fried wontons for dessert. YUMMMMMMM

144477944705_0_ALB.jpg

Aisling on the other hand was MISERABLE during this meal. We figured she would love it because she loves Chinese food. NOPE. She didn't want to eat at all. We told her that all she had to eat was rice (she never turns down rice). She didn't want it. I ordered her rice anyway. She freaked :headache: Needless to say, we ended up ignoring her for the rest of the meal. She colored and was quiet but she did not eat

148.jpg

Because of this, we quickly decided that we would go see FOTLK and then leave the park for a break. There was still 45 minutes until the next FOTLK show (or so I thought :rolleyes1) so we walked slowly. We figured that getting in line 20-25 minutes would be plenty of time to get a good seat.

DiVine was out so we stopped and watched her. At one point, Aisling decided to get a closer look and came within inches of getting stepped on. We had to remind her that DiVine can not see little girls from way up there.

153.jpg

154.jpg

We got up to Camp Minnie Mickey and CMs started telling us to hurry...run...show is starting. This was about 1/2 hour now until the show was about to start. I thought it was really weird that they were rushing us. We also quickly realized that we were the ONLY people running. Hmmmm :confused3

Ya. Stupid Kristine read her time guide wrong. We weren't a 1/2 hour early. The show was literally starting right then. They let us in but we were WAAAY up in the back. Aisling was so sad that none of the CMs could see her FOLTK dress (especially after a LOT of people-CMs and guests- had stopped her telling her that they were going to love the dress at FOTLK).

But when we reminded her that we had a big night ahead of us and that if we left after the show, we could do some swimming. She got over it! So we bid goodbye to AK for this trip and headed back to the Hippy Dippy Pool!

An update when I am trying to run around and do last minute packing!!! I had to stop adn read ya know!

Love the Lion King dress. I like the baby simba on it.

Do you think I feel bad for you ;) :rotfl: Hope you have a great (warm!!) time on the cruise. Looks like you are getting out of town just in time!

I did the baby simba all by myself too!! I found the pic online and copied it by hand best I could

cute dress!

Did Ash end up eating anything? With it being that hot out, you'd think she'd eat something.

Did any of the performers see her dress on the way out of FOTLK?

I love the Lion King dress. I also love the picture of Aisling holding Tink. I did not know about the baby Simba photo. We only have the one of Stitch popping out of the pavement! :rotfl: I am glad that there were lots of animals out and that you were able to do everything on your list! I love all of her outfits! :wizard:

She didn't end up eating at Y&Y. She had her drink at that was it. She said her belly was upset after the "upside down part" on EE. I assume that she meant going backwards. Personally, I think she was just in a mood. I should have mentioned she was p#ssed that M wasn't coming back to play with her today. Two days in a row with a playmate and then having to go to AK without one was too much!

I should also update that Aisling is OBSESSED with animals. We got to the zoo all the time here (we are members) but she really doesn't like AK for whatever reason. She loved AKL too. Doesn't like the park at all. She does the safari and then she's bored!

Thank you!

We pronounce it "Ash-ling"...which is how they pronounce it in certain parts of Ireland (particularly in Dublin where I lived) but I have heard that different parts of Ireland drop the "g" sound at the end making it sound more like Ashley. We kinda say it wrong because is should be "ah-sh-lean-g" but in Boston I think we would sound stuck up pronouncing the A like that :rotfl:

Sometimes it happens. :confused3 At least she let you two enjoy your lunch!

I want to try Yak & Yeti, but I'm wondering what Billy would eat!

Thank you...I just wish the PP photographers would say "hey don't stand like that you look 6 months pregnant!" But alas, they were taught to have manners :lmao:

Yup, i wasn't arguing with her about eating. It's not like the kid is going to starve to death ;)

Here's another thing I haven't seen yet!!
Glad Ash didn't get stepped on!

Sounds like the pool was going to be perfect right about then!

Kathy

You've never seen DiVine? We've lucked out and have seen her on every trip. You do have to watch out for her though. She moves quick on those stilts!
