Wanted to go to mama melrose, but couldnt get a reservation, what about 50s prime time? never been ...

is that better than sci fi?

dont want to go to hollywood and vine

I enjoy going to 50's Prime Time and wouldn't consider it a waste at all. The atmosphere is fun and the food is pretty good home-cooked style. I think you'd be pleased if you chose to go there.

I don't know if I can classify it as better than the Sci-Fi, as I see them as different dining experiences. But I do enjoy going to Prime Time just as much.

My honest opinion is that I would chose 50's PT any day over Sci-Fi! My DH and I had 50's PT and LOVED it. Then we tried Sci-Fi and didn't care for it at all! In our opinions, the food and atmosphere at 50's is much better. The service was pretty much on the same level though, and 50's was much more fun!

We had diinner last April at Prime Time and had a great time, food was good, service was good. We are going back again this April and my husband said that he wants to go back to Prime Time. I don't think it ii a waste of a table credit.

DH convinced me to go in June (he always went with his family when he was younger) and I loved it! The food and the service were awesome and it was just a really fun experience. Definitely not a waste, in my opinion! I think the portions are very generous, too, so I wouldn't be worried about not getting your money's worth (if that's what you meant by a waste).

50's PTC is one of my favorite 1TS restaurants at WDW. The chicken dinner can easily be split between two people and I love the smores dessert here.

I don't think any place that has a menu that looks good, is located in a park or resort that works with your touring plan, is something you want to try, or has availablity, is a waste!

We enjoy Prime Time. We also really enjoy Sci Fi. While both of these places don't have some of the more expensive items other places around WDW may have, I sitll think they are both very much worth a ts credit. And I find the atmosphere at both so much fun in a way only Disney can pull off.

If you are paying OOP, as others have said, there are some items like the fried chicken that are great for sharing!

Give it a try and see for yourself!

I understand where you are coming from, that the prices are relatively lower, so are you getting the bang for your buck with a TS credit?

We went to 50s PTC on our last trip, and it was really worth it for us. For one thing, you can get one of their huge, delicious milkshakes as your drink (the PB&J one was GREAT!), and the food was really spectacular in my party of 6's opinion. It's by far the best food we've had at HS, so if you're looking for a 1TS place in that park, I think it's the right choice!!!!! (Oh, and it was a lot of fun, too!)

Fried chicken :yay::dance3::woohoo:

Sci-Fi is a unique dining experience that is worth experiencing once, but if it was between that and 50's... 50's wins, hands down. Sci-Fi's atmosphere is interesting but the menu and the food are really subpar IMHO. 50's has better food and a more fun atmosphere.

50's is one of just a few spots that we consider 'must do's' each and every trip. It is really worth it as a TS credit. I can't imagine anyone thinking it wasn't.
In fact, I would eat there over any other place in DHS. I've tried them all, with the exception of Brown Derby....50's is my favorite.

We first considered 50s PT for dinner and we were planning to use a TS credit. But the lunch menu appeals much more to us, so we decided to go for lunch and pay OOP (sandwiches are pretty cheap, and we will use snack credits for a dessert elsewhere in the park if we want dessert). I don't think that it would be a waste of a TS credit at all. When I calculate our possible savings on the DDP, I always base it on the lowest priced menu items, since we plan to just order the entrees we want (not necessarily the most expensive ones), and I go with the total cost of the DDP for the trip vs. what it would cost OOP for the whole trip. verall we save a lot as of now, even with some of the lower priced restaurants.

I think the true value of the dining plan comes out when the person orders whatever he or she really wants from the menu and goes ot the restaurants they really want to try, not just the most expensive options that are there.

In my experience, these Mamas and 50's are two great examples of the declining dining and service. We first started going to WDW around 2000 and we have eaten at both many times. At first they were must do's every trip but in our experience, Mama's has dropped off severely. The quality of food and service the last 3 times we eat there has left such a bad impression that we will not go back to Mama's for a very very long time. With 50's it was the same. The last 2 times we went, the food was ok but the service wasn't very good. It was incredibly slow and we 4 kids, slow service is a killer.

I would go to 50's Primetime over Sci Fi any day. We ate at 50's last month again and loved it as always. There fried chicken is very good.

I guess I'm in the minority because I won't ever eat at 50's again. We gave it three tries and it failed miserably two out of three of those tries. The last time was the kicker. The meatloaf was hardly large enough to fight on a piece of bread (if we would have had one), the server balked at bringing us rolls (you can ask for them and they get them from the kitchen that they share with Hollywood & Vine) and she never did bring us any, DH's pot roast was mainly fat and our desserts were wrong. We saw our server a total of three times, our drinks went unfilled and we felt as if she would have rather been doing anything else other than her job.

On the flip side is Sci-Fi. We book it for at least one meal each trip and out of the last six trips there has only been one time when the service was less than great. At Sci-Fi you can get a milkshake as your drink if you are on the DDP too and their Oreo shake was really good. I get either their Italian Grilled Chicken Sandwich or their Smoked Ham sandwich and both are really good. Our kids (4 & 8) also love sitting in the cars and watching the old movie clips.

Just ate at Prime Time 2 days ago and even my picky aunts enjoyed their meals. PB & J shake was great! Mom and aunts got ice cream sodas and my Mom got my dad's soda because he had water. Fried chicken was great, chicken pot pie and pot roast very good and all of our orders were correct. About the only thing that didn't live up to expectations was the brownie in the sundae and even it was good! We have eaten there 6 times and never had a bad meal or service.
