I am good at math (usually, REALLY good). But I'm worried I am missing something in my number crunching. Here's the scenario: Just got PIN for free QSDP. There are 6 of us. Right now, I have booked 8/15-8/20 at Pop, standard room, plus 5-day base tickets. We are 2A, and 17yo, 11yo,10yo, 7yo. Total, my package is $2355 but I will be adding a 6th day.

Can anyone think if a way we can do our trip for less $? I have had AP in the past, but it expired. I used to do AP discount on 2 connecting rooms, and get the DDE card. Now, we'd need 2 AP's so the cost would go way up.

I have AAA...but seems like a pretty small discount, even x 2 rooms.

What would my room-only discount have to be, to be the better deal? (We only would spend about $100-120/day on food, after looking over the menus). I would save about $60 (at least) getting tickets through mousesavers newsletter.

My brain's fried. What does someone else have for me?!

Value rooms are pretty cheap when you are planning on going, I doubt that you would get a very large discount on rooms. For your group size, I think that the free QS plan would be the best option. Your gonna get 2 meals + 2 snacks and a mug a piece. There is no way you could purchase that much food for $100-120 a day.

I ran the numbers with everything you mentioned and with free dining for 6 nights and it comes to $2563.20. That is a great number for 6 people

When you book your room, make sure that there are 2 "adults" per room as each extra adult is an extra charge...

We only have 1 adult per room, the other "adult" tickets are juniors" (chidren as far as room occupancy goes, but adults on tickets/meal plan).

She only has 2 adults and there has to be 1 assigned to each room. The 17 year old is still considered a child for the room portion.

I ran your two rooms, and got a total of $2375, so your amount from the CM sounds about right. If you did the PIN, then you would be getting your meals for free, which is a savings of $850 for the QSDP.

You said you think you could do meals for about $120/day (I'm going big here... because I know a fam of 6 would be on a tight budget to do it for $100)... at $840 that's about the cost of the QSDP.

If you got a room discount, bought tickets via Disney, then you could still add the QSDP for the cost that you are looking at paying for meals out of pocket. The QS meals can easily be shared between folks at many locations, so the plan would have more than enough food for your stay.

So basically, any room discount would do you well, if you could get tickets via the newsletter & you stayed within your budget for food. Sounds like it's just a matter of how you want to pay for meals... up front or after you get to the parks. Personally, I like the dining plans, as then I don't feel like I am watching every little penny while I am on vacation. I know my costs have already been paid for up front. Being a cash only family, this is big for us ;)

Thanks...we are 5 nights, which is probably why it is $2355. So there probably won't be a better PIN for us, right?

And with the 5-night/5-day we already booked, $2355, it'd be about $18 more to add a 6th day to our tickets. You ran it with 6-nights and 6-days? Or 6-nights and 7 days? Either way, about $200 more to eat/sleep/play another whole day. Hmmmmmm.....

Anyone know how long I have, to add another night? It probably depends on whether they run out of rooms for the night we'd want, with our PIN code deal, huh?

I ran 6 nights/7 days with the 5 day bases tickets, I thought you just wanted to add another night. We always take a down day and don't go to the parks

Except I tried AAA. At $73.50/night, x 2 rooms, x the 5 nights=835
6 base tickets for 6 days +1350
____________
2185

That leaves only $170 for food, to equal the free QSDP. Are there better discounts for value resorts out there? Or does this seem like the best I will do? (We are THRILLED with this, btw, but it does leave us with NO spending money, or we'd go over budget).

Well, AAA is only a 10% discount. If Disney releases a % discount code, like right now where there are 20 & 30% discounts on values, it can be $65.60/night or $57.40/night.
20% would be $325 + $1350 = $1675.
30% would be $284 + $1350 = $1637.

$2355 - $1675 = $680 for food
$2355 - $1637 = $718 for food

This is less than the cost of the QSDP, and means you really have to stick to that $100/day budget for food expenses. For $100, you are not going to get 2 QS, 2 snacks per day for each person in your family. BUT, if you can be tight while on vacation, you can do it.

My guess is your budget is about $2500. If that's the case, I'd say go with the free QSDP. You can always watch for other offers to come out over the next few months, and call and see if you can get a better price than what you already have.

Yay, that was totally helpful! Thanks! So since we have to have 2 rooms, 20% off: 656 + 1350=2006 (leaves $349 for food)
60% off: 574 + 1350=1924 (leaves $431 for food).

So neither is better for us.:thumbsup2

Oops, I forgot you had 2 rooms!

You are right... stick with the free dining PIN! :rotfl:
