Photo Sharing: Ultra Wide Angle

You guys really have me wanting to add the Tokina 11-16 before our summer vacation.

Is there a steep learning curve? In addition to posting pictures, can you give any tips or suggestions for a newbie???

Me too!

I think that if you see some of the examples above you can see one of the techniques is getting really close to an object with a decent background to emphasize the foreground.

It seemed to me that the lens had more peripheral vision than my eyes do. It is pretty interesting.

Plus, you can take some interesting photos by angling the shot instead of straight on. Basically you can screw with perspectives a lot.

Ok I could not stand it anymore!! I ordered my Tokina 11-16 (backorder) last night. :lovestruc

I'll be working a few weekend shifts! :confused3

Thank you Dave. Here are a couple more from yesterday.

^^^ Great shots Jeff :thumbsup2

Decided to try some UWA shots on POTC yesterday. Bumped up the ISO to 6400 so there is some noise but it definitely gives you a different perspective.

Not sure how I feel about the processing on this one, but I thought I should try something new...

I like it!!!!! :thumbsup2 Black and white photos are something that I still struggle with HORRIBLY and this is one of those shots that hack me off so bad, because you make it look so easy! :lmao: I love the sharpness of everything, the star effect on the lights, and the contrast throughout. Very nice!!

This was B&W by necessity, as I blew the sign even in my -2 exposure. I really struggle with B&W, too; I guess I just got lucky here.

Here's another:

When I got the Tokina 11-16 it was because I had a craving to go wide and get everything in. I have not yet even begun to explore the possibilities of going in close for the creative distortion/emphasis effect.

I feel like I got lucky with the exposure on this shot since the sign was not blown out like it always seems to be for everything else I shot at night. It buffed up quite nicely in photoshop too..... This leads me to believe that you expose the image to reign in the blow outs and blinkies and then open up the rest of the image with the fill light adjustment in the "Camera Raw" editing software.

I feel so fortunate to be photographing in an age where one can use software like photoshop to bring the image out of the camera and align it with ones intentions for the image.

To me it's almost like living in the golden age of "Technicolor" which was used in the late 40's and early 50's. Disney utilized Technicolor for Snow white and Fantasia!

^Excellent shot, I have one just like it from during the day. The only suggestion I might make, if you're interested, is maybe opening it in Photoshop and using an adjustment layer to darken the sky just a tad (and then mask out the rest, as the editing for the rest of the image is spot-on). Either way, beautiful work!

I took a gajillion exposures of Mission Space at night hoping to HDR some of them. First attempt at HDR was a mess. (I haven't had the time to learn how to work my software)

This one is just old Camera raw processing with further refinement in Photoshop (Levels, Hue, Contrast). Cropped it and topped it with a copyright notice.

Connect to my flicker site for the story of my daring do in capturing this shot. Note to self, must wear ninja pajamas :laundy: for night photography on next trip. ;)

Smoochies :love2:
