Food for babies off the buffets

What kind of options do they have at the various buffets? My daughter will be 7 months, so eating pureed foods, but I think she'll do okay with some of the oatmeal or other prepared grains, applesauce, etc. Do they have those on the buffets?

We're going to:
Donald's Safari Breakfast (breakfast)
Crystal Palace (breakfast)
Askerhaus (breakfast)
Hollywood & Vine (breakfast)
1900 Park Fare (dinner)

I plan on bringing my own baby food for her, but if there will be applesauce or oatmeal I can just save the diaper bag room!

I have eaten at a few of those but not all of them. I don't recall seeing oatmeal or applesauce or any other type of grain/pureed food. Perhaps my memory is failing me though as oatmeal/applesauce are not the types of foods that my family eats for breakfast when on vacation.

They do have a lot of chunked fruits, scrambled eggs, mickey waffles, bacon, sausage, etc.

we are going in 6 days with my son who will be 7 months on wednesday and also eating at some buffets.

i don't plan on giving him anything from the buffets: if the buffets have oatmeal it will most likely have been made with milk. and if not, the actual grains used are way bigger than the finely ground stuff that i give him. i'd be a little worried about choking. also, the applesause might not be all natural. not that i'm miss organic-only or anything but for a 7 month old i'd rather not give him anything but applesauce from the jars that list the only ingredients as apples and water.

i'd bring your own oatmeal and applesauce. we are.

YMMV!

Thanks for letting me know! This is a new experience for me all around. I've never been to Disney with a infant, and my DD4 refused pureed foods, so she was on table food by 7 months.

By seven months, you should probably be able to come up with foods on the buffets that they will eat, at least at breakfast. Check out the sample menus for the buffets - www.allears.net. I know that Donald's Safari Breakfast has oatmeal and pap. My daughter also refused pureed food so she was on table food by 7 months as well. Scrambled eggs were a staple. I wouldn't worry about the chunks of oatmeal - stir it well and make sure there are no big lumps and you'll be fine.

I used to just cut things that she could gum up small enough that there was no way she could choke. I think you will find stuff at most breakfasts that you could feed to a seven month old, unless you are concerned about giving them whole milk instead of formula as a mixer in the oatmeal, etc.

Akershus breakfast could be an exception since they are a pre-plated meal. I don't remember much except the eggs that you would feed to a baby.

Can't help you with the dinner buffet, but there is oatmeal at all the breakfast buffets.

I'm sure you will be able to find a lot of stuff for a 7 month old on the breakfast buffets. Beside the eggs and oatmeal ( I've never heard of it being cooked with milk, cream of wheat yes, oatmeal no) mentioned there will be waffles, bagels, and fruit. bananas are a staple on breakfast buffets and they can eat those in pieces or you can mash it. Do they like yogurt? probably will be some dry cereal also.

By 7 months they don't have to have all pureed they can gum a lot of things.

I'm not too worried about whole milk mixed in foods, as I cook with whole milk at home and plan on feeding her our food (mashed, of course).

I forgot about bananas! I'll bring her mesh feeders and she can go to town!

You might consider buying a mini food mill. We always traveled with one when our kids were infants: that way, you can turn almost anything into "baby food".

I would count on mostly giving her the food you bring with you and giving her a taste or two off the buffet if you see something she has had already and know she will be fine with it. Many foods still need to be off limits and all foods need to be introduced one at a time to watch for any allergic reaction so I would not give ANYTHING to her on vacation she has not already had. This warning comes after DGS 1st taste of egg sent us to the ER around 7 mo. old.

I havent read all the posts... but we had a Sassy Mesh feeder when DS3 was little. We kept in our diaper bag and didnt leave home without it. If there was food, but not toddler/baby friendly, we just popped in some nuturious tatsy treats and he mowed away.... not only did it fill his belly but it kept him busy, too! Be sure to have plenty of wipes on hand - it can be messy! :scared1:

I also would plan on feeding your baby mostly what you've already brought. My youngest is 8 months old and is BARELY ready to eat the Gerber puffs. She just has no interest in food, so there is no way I could feed her from a buffet. She also has a milk allergy, so I have to be careful about what I give her.

I'd rather be safe and bring too much food from home than not bring enough and not be able to feed your baby at buffets. Don't forget not to bring glass into the parks! :)

I didn't even think about a food mill - I will avoid obvious allergens for her age, such as egg or peanut butter, but I think most everything else will be okay, since we will be feeding her our food at home as well! By 7 months she will have cycled through most of the single foods at home.

We just visited at Christmas/New Years and DD was just shy of 7 months at the time of the trip. She does not like pureed foods at all (I understand why, that stuff is yucky:rotfl2: ) so we went right to table foods. We started 'cheerio therapy' (peds. term :goodvibes) at 6 months and began feeding our DD Gerber puffs. She got the hang of grasping them rather quickly and feeding herself but we will also feed them to her when she misses her mouth. She eats what we eat, just very small portions and cut up. She has no teeth and is a pro at 'gumming' the food. When we dined at Chef Mickey's she had some banana and a few small pieces of Mickey waffle. If you baby is used to baby food then I would bring enough for baby, otherwise there is plenty on the buffet a baby might enjoy. Have fun!

Yes, you can bring glass baby food jars in the park. We have, it was never a problem. In 2008, we took my then 8 month old. She did not like baby food and ate mostly off our plates. There was never a problem, that is how we fed her at home, too.

I would stick with what you know she can handle, bananas, and stuff --I always thought eggs (unless used in cooking) were a no no until 1, as well as strawberries? -- I think some of the breakfast buff- have yogurt too but I guess she is too young for that anyway (sorry) .

My ds will also be about seven months at the time of our travel. My plan was to order from Garden Grocer or something like that because I thought there probably wouldn't be a lot for him to eat at the places that we eat. I was thinking that since we would need diapers, food for him, and snacks for my older kids, then the free delivery if you place an order over 40.00 would be met pretty easily.

That way I don't have to travel with a suitcase full of diapers and snacks, and I will have all of his normal foods there with us. Not sure if this is an option for you, but might be easier than having to figure out what your dc can eat off of the buffets.

I do know that I've seen oatmeal and bananas at the character breakfast buffets though. The might even have peaches you can mash up and cottage cheese as well. Good luck!

***Okay, so I reread your initial post, and noticed that you were looking to save diaper bag space by doing this, so you can disregard most of my post. I somehow missed that part the first time I read through it. :)
