OK - I tried to search & couldn't find any matches.

So we want to go to Disney this year (it's been a long time) but we dont want our kids to miss school. I have always taken them out but they are too busy to miss a week.

Do I go at Easter, August or Thanksgiving (we have the whole week off so we would go the Friday before thanksgiving)

best weather? least crowds?

Thanks:)

Best weather Easter or Thanksgiving...least crowds, late August, you'll have to decide which is more important to your family. I personally can deal with the heat better than swarms of people.

Thanks- i really dread going when scool is out - have never done it - scared.

i agree would rather be hot and not as crowded.

check when your kids go back, part of the reason for late august is that many kids are going back in late august. at least in our area. we thought about this time period and orientation and several other issues popped up that made it inconvienient.

remember too that "crowded" is relative. i have seen many a thread that says "we were there such and such a week and it was SOOOOO crowded" only to be followed by someone who was there the same time and commenting on how managable the crowds were.

our kids go back Aug 25th

so we would probably go right before that-for a week

I am the total opposite. I would rather deal with big crowds than hot, sticky, humid, days.

We have gone 2 times in August and it is hard. I hate the fellign of showering and walking out of my room and 5 minutes later being covered in sweat. I also think people are in better moods when they are not super hot. I know my kids deal much better.

We have also gone twice Easter week and yes it is busier but WOW it is so much more fun. We will be returning again this year Easter Week.

so might a lot of others. that is why i say when school is out for one family it is probably out for all other families and families go to WDW (for the most part) when school is out. just dont want you to get down there on august 17th and expect to walk on everything. we have been there during that time and really did not notice much difference. we do not go based on school or anything we just go. so sometimes its june or october or whatever. i quit trying to second guess 2 billion people long ago, if they are there so be it.

I don't think there is a good time to go when kids are out-although I've never been during Thanksgiving week. August can be terribly hot & humid and Easter week-I wouldn't go if you paid me! (we take our kids out-well one of them-this trip we have regents week off so only 1 kid misses and being that it's Catholic schools week-not too much for him to miss)

We always go in August and find it more than manageable. It's the best of both worlds for us-- low crowds but the parks are still open fairly late. In 2009, we went from the 20th to the 25th. Walk on rides? Not usually. However, we rode Splash Mountain at 3:00 p.m. on a Saturday with a 15-20 minute wait. That's MORE than acceptable to me.
The weather is tricky-- can be hot or pouring. However, we had terrific weather last year. DBF wore long pants every day (doesn't believe in shorts, haha) and was absolutely fine and sweat-free.
Of the three times you asked about, I'd say August is the best.

No intense heat for us! Would I consider going in August? Sure. Mornings in Park, afternoons pool and nap. Evening/late nights in park. Mostly AC attractions and water attractions for late monring, early evening. It IS doable. I PREFER cooler weather, nice enough to swim still and less sweating, SOME more crowds perhaps but I WILL have a plan, I WILL still see the same amount of things just won't be so worn out with the heat and sun! JUST my honest opinion!

We had houseguests last Easter who went to the parks almost daily. Every day I asked about the crowds, & they said it wasn't bad. Naturally, I'm thinking "yeah right". We joined them on their last day in the parks, & were amazed by the crowds. I've seen worse crowds in Oct. As I noted, this is my 1st time going at Easter, so I don't know if it's typical. Last year wasn't bad though.

We have friends that swear by going in august:thumbsup2 They say it has started to quite down since everyone in the south is heading back to school and the summer heat isn't too bad.

As far as crowds, which is better, end of June or late August?

:cool2: We were at WDW this past June. :sad2: Never again!!!! It was crowded AND humid. I would definitely go the last week of August if I had to choose. At least you are only dealing with the humidity. :wizard:
