I found what seems to be a great price on this resort but know little about it. If you have stayed there and are willing to share your experience, we would be very grateful!

TIA!:flower3:

This is really a nice resort! Lots of activities at the resort, and very nice restaurants. Huge fully landscaped swimming pool. Gorgeous central atrium with tropical landscaping. DH and I stayed there about 4 or 5 years ago. From the website, it has been renovated recently, so I am not sure what I can tell you about it now.
The hotel is a good distance from the airport, and from Disney. You need to plan on renting a car, or be prepared to spend some $$$ for transportation. Interestingly, when we were ready to leave to go to a Disney hotel, we asked for a cab, and we got a towncar instead of a cab!

I stayed here for a conference a few years ago. At the time of my visit, the staff was discussing the renovations that were to take place just after my group's departure.

As the previous poster stated, the hotel (and the attached conference center) is gorgeous! The atrium is huge, the pool complex is quite large and incudes a few hot tubs and bridges. There is a beach/lake attached to the hotel where (when I was there a few years ago) you could rent small sail boats and paddle-boats. There is also a small pitch and putt golf course on the grounds. If you're a golfer and are interested in a larger course, the hotel works closely with the Grand Cypress Course.

As mentioned, the hotel also serves as a conference center. As the large conference crowds can definitely set the tone of the hotel's atmosphere, try to get an understanding of what (if any) groups may be there during your anticipated travel time. From time to time the hotel sponsors a national conference for college students. As you can imagine, this time is a bit more hectic than others. :scared1:

Travel to an from Disney, if you don't have a rental car, is a bit tricky. The hotel used to provide shuttle service service a few years back, but that was only a few times per day. I'm not sure if they still do. Travel times to and from the parks aren't all that bad. It's only about a 5 minute ride from the hotel to Downtown Disney. That should give you an idea of the proximity to the rest of the Disney properties.

If you have any other questions, let me know and I'll be happy to provide some additional information.

I have stayed twice through Priceline and thought it was a great place to stay. If it weren't for the Disney Hotels I would try to stay here or the Gaylord Palms.
As stated above, the grounds are extensive an beautiful. The pool is huge with some cave like areas. Numerous places to eat and the website shows their newly redecorated rooms. It has always been comfortable and quiet here too. I always have a car so it is not hard to drive to Disney. I do not know what theier shuttle is like but I believe you have to pay extra to use it.

Thanks for the help!:) We will have a car and are planning on doing a trip that not just parks this time. This property seems to have a lot to offer for a reasonable price.

We LOVED this hotel, partially because the incerdible pool is similar to the one at the Hyatt Maui so it reminded us of being in Hawaii. The pool slide is so fast it makes it sooo much fun, my kids and DH were up and down it over and over. We used the bicycles and explored the trails with them and honestly I was laughing and giggling like a kid the whole time. The hotel inside did need a little up dating so I think the reno will serve them well. I thought the location was fantastic, Olive Garden is just across the main road, Crossroads is just down a bit and DTD is right there too.You really cannot go wrong here...

We stayed at the Hyatt December 27-29, 2009. Had a great 3 night deal from Travelocity/AMEX, about $ 155 per night.
We were in a renovated room on the 7th floor with a view of I-4. They spent some big $$$ renovating the bathroom as it has all top-of-the-line Toyo fixtures. The room was decorated in a similar fashion to the tower rooms at the Contemporary at Disney.
From the atrium hallway, and rooms on the opposite side of the hotel, one had a great view of DS, Epcot and the MK (about 5 miles away) with a great view of the fireworks. Almost as good as the view from within the parks.
The recreation was as described: a great big pool with slide, bicycle trails, boating, 12 tennis courts – all recreation included in the $ 18/day resort fee. Ping pong balls were 25 cents each though.
Hotel provided free transportation 3 times in the AM and 3 times back in the PM to the TCC only. You had to get a Disney bus or monorail from there to the theme parks. Took about 1 hour total to get to the Animal Kingdom – My daughter and I drove – my wife came over later by bus.
If you have a car – you can drive yourself – just take a left out of the hotel driveway and use the back (Disney) road to get to the parks and downtown Disney – 3 miles, but much faster than the 5 block (and up to 1 hour) route if you turn right and attempt the direct route.
Great hotel if you can get a discount. Pool was as good or better than Disney resort hotels (and we have stayed at most of them over the years).
The last 2 nights of our trip we were able to get a balcony room at the Dolphin with a fantastic view of the New Year’s fireworks at DS. We thought that the Dolphin was more convenient to DS and Epcot than the Beach Club.

Thanks for the recent feedback! We were able to snag a room there for
110/night through a European agency. The room description says pool view. Is that good? We are also considering booking this resort for a Christmas/NYE stay this year, too. How was the traffic getting to and from the resort from the parks? It sounds like the back road will make a big difference. Also, how was the pool heat and the room heat during the chilly days?

TIA for any help!:)

That's a good price for that hotel. Pool view is preferable. See if they'll put you up on a higher floor for a better view. Concierge level is delicious if you have a chance for an upgrade.

Thanks for that information. What ammenities above and beyond standard are available for concierge level guests?

If you have a room with a view of the pool, you'll have the view toward Disney (as long as you are up high enough). They have 18 floors. We were on the 7th.
There was plenty of heat in the room. Outside temp was as low as 39 degrees when we were there. Did not use the pool as the air temp was too low. Did see kids using the pool slide and hot tub though.

Thanks for that info, too.:) I have read where people at some off property locations were upset because their hotel rooms wouldn't heat up enough to keep them warm.

That is a great price for that hotel. We stayed there twice a few years ago, it spoiled me for other hotels none can compare. The marble bathrooms were beautiful and large. The room was good size and we requested a fridge which came in handy.

I remember one of the dining rooms had a waterfall kind of structure, our boy was fascinated and loved to eat in there. We loved to get a snack or even small dinner down at the little store, down by the pool but not out at the pool. We frequently went down just before closing to get an ice cream treat or some other snack.

When my husbands conference was last there they had kind of an old western town set up outside and even had horses. I remember a stable on property somewhere too.

Last time my husband was there, by himself, he stayed out in the separate area. I think it like multiples single story rooms, kind of like a fourplex maybe. When he ordered room service or anything else, they brought it by golf cart, even ice! He thought he was pretty special when he came home from that trip! I'm guessing it was something special for the conference he was at.

The pool was amazing, as others have said. It was more like a water system. We had fun exploring it and spent quite a bit of time out there.

I also think it was actually pretty close to most things. We did Universal that trip too and it didn't seem that far away.

I think you will have a great time at that hotel, especially for the great price you were able to secure:thumbsup2 Have a fun trip!

I just remember the food and drink selection being very good compared to other concierge's where we've stayed. The hotel has bike rentals and trails, too and a climbing wall, etc. They were fun.

Oh, and they have a nice fitness facility and a pool bar in a cave. They also have good poolside drink service, but it isn't cheap. So, you could get pop for the kids from the gas station that's within walking distance if you want and order frozen drinks for yourself. There's a cute little restaurant by the gas station, too that's popular with locals and has very cheap eats and drinks.

Thanks for these tips, too!:thumbsup2 We'll have to remember these!

My husband is attending a conference at the Hyatt Regency in February so we just decided we are all going with! We will only be there Wed afternoon to Sat night so we are just going to visit the Magic Kingdom and Sea World.
I was hoping to use the hotel shuttles to get to the parks, instead of renting a car!?!?!?

Just wanted to share with any interested folks on this board what a wonderful place the Grand Cypress was.

The grounds were beautiful! There is a nice-sized lake with a white, sandy beach, oriental gardens with fountains, brooks, statuary, etc., that was really nice to wander around. Equiptment like kayaks, water bikes, sail boats, etc. were available to guests at no charge. Volleyball nets, a tetherball pole, and thatch-tiki type shades were also on the sandy beach. The humongous pool complex was spectacular. There were several pools, hot tubs, waterslides, caves and waterfalls to keep the kids busy. There is also a tennis club, a driving range, and a pitch and putt available to guests for no additional charge! There were also a slew of childrens' activities available daily. We never made it past the beach and pool area, but what we did use was lovely. A 45 hole tournemant quality golf club and an equestrian center are also on the grounds, but we never made it to them, either.

The interior of the hotel was spectacular. The lobby and grounds house an art collection worth over a million $. The glass elevators were the fastest the we have ever experienced. Both the inside and the outside of the resort is quiet, except for the parrots in the lobby and the sound of waterfalls in the gardens. The rooms were nicely remodeled. The door seperating the bathroom and the closet is designed weirdly and took a bit to get used to. (Watch your fingers!) The beds were comfortable, but only double-sized. There was also a "fainting couch" between the beds and the balcony that a small child could sleep on. The balcony was small, but the nightly view of Epcot fireworks was a nice plus.:wizard: The bathroom was strangely designed but upscale. The towels and toiletries were also upscale. There was acatually real artwork on the walls and a large vase on the dresser. The room size was a bit bigger than the room we had at the AKL.

The resort is located behind SSR, and there is a quick way to avoid the traffic jam at the intersection at the entrence to Hotel Plaza Blvd. at 535. After waiting at that intersection one night for almost half an hour, we never made that mistake again! It was quick and easy to get to and from the parks. They offered shuttles, but we had a rental. There is a food store and restaurants within walking distance. We never ate on property becuase we knew going into it that the food prices were VERY high. There are some wonderful restaurants on property if you don't mind the prices.

We would not hesitate to stay at this resort again. Next time we stay here, though, we will plan on more "down time" to enjoy all that it has to offer!

Hi TinkOhio, and thank you for your informative post. I was just wondering if you had to pay a resort fee? I've read some have been charged for it, and yet some haven't. Is it an optional fee? I'm hoping to avoid paying it if possible!! Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi Zads:)

We didn't have to pay a resort fee as that was included in our rate. We booked through 1800Hotels, but I believe that they have since gone under! We're not surprised. Our rates we about half those of other discount sites like Expedia and Travelosity. We were very lucky.

Hi TinkOhio, and thx for the response...Day prior to 1800hotels shutting down, I saw Hya tt Grand for $88 which was a bargain!!! It seems their site is now back up but are they trustworthy?? Not sure... Also, seems the Hyatt Grand is no longer on there site. unfortunately.

Anyhow, thanks for letting me know. Much appreciated.
