anyone ever share a costco membership?

My sister and I both want to join costco, really for their photo services, so we can print scrapbook pages. But it doesn't make sense for both of us to have our own membership, as she doesn't have one close enough to her to get one herself. So....has anyone ever done this? If all else fails, we will just split the cost, and I will just be the named member. But hate to take her money if she can't go if she ever wants to!

I share a membership with my parents. We have never had any problems. They give you two cards - so there is no issue as to who you share your membership with. She can also shop online with her membership - so maybe she can get use out of it too. They also have discounted vacation packages and rental car codes.

I don't think that is a question they ask. We have had it shared for years and it's not been an issue.

At our Costco you do have to show that you live at the same address. My sister and I wanted to share a membership but they would not allow it since we don't live together. The membership is for the household not the family.

I share with my Dad, we do not live together. When my Mom passed almost 15 years ago, he transferred hers to me.

One time they had to look something up and they said that it was OK for us to share because it was done long ago, when it was allowed. We were "grandfathered" in, and now you need to have the same address to share.

But, this could have changed. And I could have been given bad information!

My aunt and her daughter share a membership. I know when I signed up, I was asked if I would like a second card and what name I wanted on there. I put my husband's but I'm sure you could put someone else's name down. They never asked for his driver's license or proof of residence.

Also, when you walk in the door, they don't check the name on the card, just that it is a Costco card. And if you pay cash, debit or credit, they don't check your license to see if the name matches. Or at least they don't at mine. So anyone could borrow someone else's card and use it as long as they don't pay with a check.

My father-in-law has Costco. For my household it does not really work out. He was pretty sick last year and I did all his shopping for him including Costco.

I called in advance and asked if I would be allowed to shop for him, and was told No; since I was not on the card/membership.

I am a pretty nice person and figured I could sweet talk a clerk into checking me out, good deed and all. Well HA HA Costco, you put in self check lanes the first week I shopped for him, your plan may have been to decrease labor costs, but it allowed me to slip through your rules. I was able to show the card at entry, tool around the store, go to self check, scan the card, use his debit card and be on my way. I have probably done it 20 times now. I keep waiting to get caught. The produce people have started to recognize me. I will say in all of those trips, I have only bought one thing for myself. Costco, just isn't my kind of retail--but we don't have kids; and I don't mind buying toilet paper more than once a decade.

My MIL and I share the membership. In November we went to her Costco and I told them I want to renew my membership. Then I said my MIL needs to get her photo taken for her card. No questions asked.

years ago if you brought in a non-member to shop with you, you were able to have the two orders rung up separately but for a while now it must be all rung up as one order - one payment. Of course, what we do is separate on the belt and get a subtotal after one is done and then ring up the rest for the total.
