I am planning a trip to DW ...edited to remove specific details........ I want to use a website I found that rents points for $13. I just feel it is safer because I can pay via Paypal. Has anyone used this guy? Am I being foolish and paying too much? Thanks for any advise

Many of the owner here on the DIS accept paypal. However, whether you are paying too much or not is subjective. Are you comfortable booking with an agent, and not directly with the owner? Then it is likely good for you. There have been no complaints about the site that I am aware of.

However, this early, any owner looking to rent points should be able to book December for you.

I think this agent is a good alternative. We have not as of yet rented out any points, but if/when we do I think we will go this route. Mainly because we don't want become travel agents in the process. I've read how many people are fatigued by the requests of the renter to make changes or answer questions or book meals, etc. On the flip side I would prefer to have someone who made it his (or her) business to take care of my needs as the renter. JMHO :)

But what happens if DVC decides to cancel this reservation because they have decided the person who made the reservation was a commercial renter? Then you lose the points, give the money back to the non-member and you are out a bunch.

I'll find family or friends who want to go and gift them the reservation or charge a small amount.

I agree with Chuck that price is subjective. If you are more comfortable with this site, then the price is worth it. For me personally, I am very price-driven and would not spend the extra $$$ when there are so many people renting on the disboards for less. To each their own!

Well now, Deb... That is a good question, and a scenario I had not thought of. I don't know what to think about that.

Why not save a few bucks and use the DIS site. Most renters take paypal and in my eyes its not much different then going through someone else on-line.

I have also thought about renting out my points. But I would only consider doing a transfer of points. Can you transfer out points many times, or is the same as transfering in, just once? And can you transfer banked points?

Banked points can not be transferred, but transferred points can be banked.

You are limited to ONE transfer, in or out, not both, per use year.

Only once, in or out, during your UY. And, only current UY points can be transferred.

Well, I think it is extremely unlikely - just slightly more likely than me winning the lottery when I don't buy a ticket. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Sounds like an email I got from a Nigerian Prince.

Ok, I know who we are talking about here, but is being a commercial renter against DVC rules or something? He has some great last minute deals for those who can go last minute, usually at SSR or OKW only.

Being a commercial renter is against DVC rules. They are also taking aim at those who become associates in order to rent out your points.

I bought a 160 point contract, to start. I was going to add points, but I love renting. I have rented 3 times, and 2 more in Jan/Feb. at 8 and 9$ a point. I pay paypal, and it has always worked out. I am not sure if what I would do if it didnt, paypal would supports you with email proof. Use email to get a confirmation of everything in writing.. IE 3 nights pref room BWV. 01-22 through 01-25. 48 points, at 8$ per point. Pay full amount up front at proof to be mailed by 01-15-10. Then if it didn't you could come eaisily get funds back from pay pay, and sue in small claims court for the hotel you rent when you are there. You can check a day or 2 ahead to confirm everything is still sall set by checking on your magical express. I wouldnt pay extra to use this service, but I would make sure I felt good with renter by phone call, and all the other proof. good luck!

Well does Disney know about this website and such? How do they know when he secures a ressie? What does it mean to become an associate in order to rent out your points?

An Associate is a person that a member adds to their DVC account. An associate may make reservations, borrow points, cancel reservations, bank points, and I think, transfer points. But, they can not "sell" the contract and they are not financially resposible for the contract.

Basically they are a "points manager" for your account.

A new DVC policy limits the number of memberships onto which any particular individual may be added as an assosiate to four.

That's about it. Many Members don't want to vacation at Disney every year and they don't want the hassle of renting their points. The Dude and others provided a service while making some money.

Many will tell you that you don't take money from the Mouse.

Disney expects Members to forfeit a certain number of points each year and people like the Dude might change the number of points forfeited. As previously posted Disney put a stop to it by limiting the number of accounts that a person can be an Associate on.

Just another example that Disney may not value it's DVC Members as much as we would like to think. :sad2:
