Groceries

Hi everyone!

Our first trip as DVC members is this coming April 30 - May 8 :cool1: We have a 2 bedroom at Bay Lake Tower (I am so excited!) :worship:

What is the best way to go about getting groceries? My husband and I are driving down with our 3 kids and my grandmother (from Pa). My grandma is staying from the 30th - the 3rd, then returning home via plane. On the 3rd, my BFF and my MIL are arriving. So, as you can see, there will be a number of us on this trip and having groceries is a must.

Since we're driving I have thought about just stopping at Walmart on the way down and getting them but the more I think about it the more I realize I do NOT want to have to 'grocery shop', even for a little amount of food after driving 2 days and having 3 kids; ages, 3, 4 and 7 PLUS my 87 year old grandma with us! Once we arrive at BLT and get checked in I know no one will feel like running back out either. :sad2:

What is the best option; garden grocer or using the grocery list on the DVC members page? I can figure out which is cheaper but which is easier?

We will arrive before check in but don't plan on doing much until we get in our room. We have dining reservations at Beirgarten that evening at 6:30pm so is that enough time to arrive and have groceries delivered or is it best to order for early the next day?

Thank you all for your help!

I used WEGOSHOP.COM for our recent trip. They were good and efficient. They will go to any store you prefer and will deliver groceries either to room or leave at bell services if you haven't checked in yet.

Wow - I have never heard of them. Thank you for the tip. This helps us save money if we can have them go to the store we choose. I will have to look into this more.

We also used wegoshop.com had a great experience last month. Prior to our trip I kept a running grocery list as I would think of items we might need on microsoft word then emailed the final version to them as an attachment about a week before our trip. And now I have our grocery list saved for future trips to. Anyhow, she stopped at both Publix and Whole Foods for us, but I think can stop at Target or Walmart too if you needed. (Since we needed specific brands of a few things I was able to call the stores ahead as well so that they could confirm if they carried them or not. If it helps the Publix # is 407-397-1171 and the Whole Foods # is 407-355-7100) In the end we just paid the actual cost of the groceries and their delivery fee. She even found a few items on sale for us. It was a great service, even my DH was impressed, and absolutely worth the delivery fee to us not having to spend a couple hours on a grocery outing after a long day of travel! As far as timing, I would think you could probably schedule a delivery time of 4:30pm to ensure your room was ready, and hopefully be out the door by 5:00pm to head to EPCOT for dinner assuming you didn't have too much stuff and they were running on time. You could always just put the stuff that needed to be cool away and then organize the rest later that day or in the am. Maybe just let them know of your dinner reservation when booking. Have a great trip, we LOVED our 2 brm at BLT and hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Thank you so much for all the detailed information. I was leaning towards garden grocer just because it seemed easier - shop at their site, pay and viola - done. However, I am going to have to check which is cheaper. The GG delivery fee is only $12 and free if the order is over $200 - with 8 people I am sure our grocery bill will be over $200.

We used garden grocer for our last trip and have an order in for an upcoming trip. There is nothing nicer than to get to your room and just call bell services to deliver your groceries to your room. All you have to do is put them away. They have a comments part that you can add things that you don't find on the list.

Oh I am so torn! :lmao: My husband is partial to using Garden Grocer because it seems so much easier to 'shop online' and the delivery fee is cheap.

What do you mean by call bell services to deliver your groceries? Can you actually have them arrive before you do? That would be nice - to have them delivered between say 2-4 then we'd definitely have them before the check in time and wouldn't have to worry about waiting in the room for them and hoping we make our dinner reservation that evening.

Last trip we didn't get into our room until after 5 and the groceries had already been delivered so bell services kept them, keeping frozen things frozen and then when we were in our room we called bell services and they delivered the groceries to our room. It was wonderful, no shopping with 2 littles kids.

We have used garden grocer the last 5 years and have them delivered in the morning to bell services before we arrive. Extremely convenient! Also, garden grocer has quality produce. We have always been extremely happy with their service.

That is great information! Thanks! I can tell ya I don't want to have to shop with 3 kids and a grandma! :rotfl:

This is good to know, regarding the quality.

So, do I need to let the resort know to expect a grocery delivery?

No, you don't have to. Garden Grocer will bring it right to bell services where it will be held until you call for it. Garden Grocer has a great website, too. And you don't see a specific item/brand you want, you can ask for it. I've done that with certain deli items and produce.

We are staying at the Poly and I am working on my Garden Grocer. Do you think that in the fridge I will be able to fit a 1/2 gallon of milk and yogurt and bottled waters?

Will GG or Wego shop purchase beer and alcohol?

Garden Grocer will. We have never used Wegoshop.

Never stayed at the Poly. We usually stay in a one or two bedroom at other resorts. But if I remember correctly, at CBR the fridge size would hold the items you mentioned. I can't imagine the fridges a Poly would be smaller in size.
