Xmas 2010

Can anyone give me advice about planning a trip to disney at XMAS. Our home resort is SSR and we will likely stay there. Any advice is appreciated.

make your reservations at your home resort at exactly at 11 months out.

if you want to try staying at a different resort, call to make the change (or more likely, to waitlist) at exactly 7 months out - call right when MS opens if possible.

i would definitely plan to take some time to visit resorts like the GF and WL (or AKL/jambo house) to see their amazing holiday decorations.

We were there last Dec. and LOVED WDW in Dec.! We are going back this year.
Like PP said, I would def. set time aside to go see the resort decorations. BWV and BCV are two of my favorites!
Look into all the special holiday events at each park (i.e., Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at the MK, Candlelight Processional at Epcot, Osbourne Lights at Hollywood Studios, Jingle Jungle Parade at AK, etc...) and decide if you want to go to them b/c some require special reservations or tickets.
We stayed at OKW and BCV last year, but we'll be at SSR this year. I think it is a perfect location in Dec. b/c you can walk to DTD and do some holiday shopping, see Santa, etc....

We went this Dec. for our first Christmas visit and LOVED it. We were adults only, so we spent one whole day resort hopping (loved BWV and BC) and just roaming around to soak up the amosphere. We spent another day at Epcot to take in the storytellers in each country. We did the Christmas Processional, Osbourne Lights (twice), MVMCP, and Fantasmic. It is really wonderful.

Def make home resort reservations as soon as you can and I have had success with waitlisting twice, one time it came through just one week prior. Know that it will be crowded but its not your only trip ever so just pace yourself and do what you can, knowing that the crowds will not allow you to hop from one ride to another easily. Both times at Christmas we stayed at Wilderness Lodge Villas.

Hi,

We went for Christmas for the first time last year. We had a great time and plan to go this year also.

We brought shorts and pants and you will need both of them as well as so really warm clothes (hats, warm jackets...etc) for the night time. (we have a 2year old and had to make her wear socks as gloves because I never thought we would need them)

We did the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and it was so much fun. They had the best Disney parade we have ever seen. We plan to purchase tickets again for this but will actually buy them for 2 days. There were alot of other Christmas shows and charaters we have never seen. So we missed alot of things we wanted to do but could not. It was crowded also and people lined up an hour early for almost everything. So def worth it but you need alot more time especially if you have little ones.

We did see the decorations in the resorts and they were very nice, worth seeing again.

Again loved it and can't wait to go again.

Reserve the sleigh ride at the ft wilderness.. go see the carousel at BCV and the gingerbread house at GF.. have a great time!!!

We are also planning on going this Xmas for the first time. Do you need tickets for the Candlelight processional? And what if you have DP and want their dinner and entry package? We are going as a possibly very large group and I am the coordinator for it all. And none of have ever been for the holidays.

I would highly recommend doing the CP dinner package. You don't need to do it, but you will be waiting in a very long line for the CP if you don't. Doing the CP dinner package will give you tickets to the CP and you won't have to get in line hours in advance for a seat. Keep an eye on the boards to see when WDW is releasing the CP packages. You can use the DP to book.

I agree with this, ESPECIALLY if you want to go on a weekend or see a very popular narrator. Also, the closer you get to Christmas day, the longer the lines for standby.
