Anyone know how long it takes to drive from Pop to the port?

Thanks, Tromba

Figure roughly an hour.It ll prob be a little less depending on which route you take, driving habits etc.

It used to take me one hour from the Swan to my mom's house in Cocoa, which was right off of 528. I'd say that it will take a little over an hour - assuming you drive the speed limit! I take 536 to 417 to 528. The Greeneway (417) is less heavily traveled than taking I-4 to 528, although the tolls are a little higher: $4 from Pop Century to the port if you get on 417 via 536, or $4.50 if you get on 417 from Osceola Parkway.

Heres 2 options coming from Pop century to the port. They both take about the same amount of time, just 1 takes you a little further north of property and the other puts you at a different point of the 417 to get to the port.

Option 1.
When you exit Pop Century, turn left and head to Osceola Parkway.Turn left again on OP.Take Osceola Pkwy to 417 Cocoa/Port Canaveral Exit.Stay on the 417 until it reaches the 528 beachline. Exit onto the Beachline/528 EAST.Stay to the right on the Beachline.(This will keep you from accidentally ending up at the Kennedy Space Center.)Stay on the 528 and follow the signage for the port.

Option 2.
Turn right coming out of Pop. Turn right onto Buena Vista Drive. Stay to the right. Exit on to Epcot Drive/536.(The first exit after CB)Take the First Exit and follow the signs for I4 East. Take I4 east to the Beachline/528.Stay on the Beachline/528(Stay to the right after the airport exit, so you dont accidentally end up in KSC.) Then follow the signs to the port.

Both routes are 70mph roads (528 after the airport and 417 just about the entire way.)
Taking the 528 directly from I4 will save you a little bit in tolls, and a more direct route (not as many turns once off property). The 417 is still fairly new and not as crowded as the 528.
Its up to you, and how well you do with directions.

That is how I would get onto 417 - via 536 rather than going down to Osceola Parkway. It also saves a 50 cent (unmanned) toll.

Is there an easy access Target or Costco on the way to the port? We will be staying at Pop on 2/12 and driving to the port the next day. I would like to get some bottles of water on the way.

Thanks! :)

I understand.I was trying to get the 2 most direct routes to the 528.With the least amount of turns and traffic.OP connects to the 417 and so does I4.And 536 and 1/2 dozen other ways. The thing I try to keep in mind is that not everyone is familiar with the area and can get lost easily.Osceola to 417 is a straight run. So is I4 to the 528.(Assuming they make the exit.Since Disney took out the 2nd turn lane its easy to miss from the outside lanes)536 is a few lights if I am not mistaken. And can be heavily traveled.

How about a Walmart?
My personal suggestion, since your dirivng to the port, is the One off Turkey Lake Road. Its kinda sort of on the way.Almost.
Turn right out of Pop onto Victory Way, and then turn right on to Buena Vista Drive.(BVD)Take BVD to Epcot Drive, and stay to the right.Follow the signs to I4 east,Daytona/Orlando.Take I4 east to exit 72(Pretty sure thats the number) which is Sea World/Central Florida Parkway.
Turn left at the end of the ramp, onto Central Florida Parkway, then right at the light,on to Turkey Lake Road. Its about 3 miles up on the left, past the hospital.
When you exit Walmart, turn left coming out of the parking lot, onto Turkey Lake Road, and go about 2 more miles or so to Sand Lake Road.Turn right onto Sand Lake Road, and stay to the right, then take the first exit which is a few hudred feet at most, to I4 WEST. Take I4 WEST to the First Exit which is the begining of the Bee Line/Beachline/528.There is no 528 west from I4 only east to the port.
WARNING.If you use this Walmart, there are red light cameras on Sand Lake Road. Make sure that you are before the white lines if you have to stop at a red light. The camera intersections up there are marked with a sign that says photo enforced and its almost a 200 ticket.I know theres one up there, but I cant swear to its exact location on Sand Lake.

Dear Truck1,

Thank you thank you, and thank you.

We will do Walmart then. Also, thanks so much for the camera warning. We will make sure to follow the traffic rule. We have this kind of spot in our neighborhood also where EVERYBODY had gotten ticket(s) from a camera.

We will never get lost with your in detailed direction service. :littleangel: We were going to take a GPS, but we don't need on anymore. We were not sure if we needed to purchase an add-on for a FL driving anyway.

If all you want is water, I would stop at the HESS gas station that's on Buena Vista Drive - across from the entrance to Hollywood Studios. I would not go all the way to Wal-Mart to save a buck or two.

LOL - Nobody warned me and guess where I ended up. Lesson Learned.

Ive done it myself going to the KSC.Ive missed the KSC exit, and ended up in the port. Coming from Orlando, theres only 1 way in to KSC. Thats off the 528 eastbound. If you miss it, you have to go all the way to the A1A, come north and then come in the back of KSC.You cant get off and turn around. Theres no westbound exit.Go figure.Been there done that.It a major PITA (as Im sure you noticed) to get back to the port from KSC, and vice versa.

Forgot about them. That would work also, if all you need is water.

Your welcome. You can turn right on red, except where posted just about anywhere in the state.Just make sure that you stop before the line, count to 5, then proceed. Same thing with the redlight cam, just make sure that you stop your wheels before the white line and your fine.(Assuming that your going to go this way and not stop at the Hess station)

Hi Nancy & Truck1,

Does HESS have cheap case of water bottles? I remember when we visited LA, they were cheeper at a gas station than at Target. In my area, it is definitely 1) Costco and 2) Target. There is no decent Walmart in the area.

Anyway, my DS might want to go to McDonald's on the way, and DH and I might want to check out what a FL local Walmart has to offer.

We will see how we are with the time when we leave Pop and see what our choices are, I guess.

Thanks you two!
Ayumi

Ill try and get over there this week and see what the going price is at Hess.My fiance bought a case of water in wm the other day and it was 3-4 dollars for a 8 pack.

Theres a Mcds at the other end of BVD (Left turn on BVD and go all the way past Blizzard Beach.)Theres another on Sand Lake Road on the east side of the I4 overpass, North side(left side) of Sand Lake, that is claimed to have the Worlds Largest Kids Play area. It been on the Travel Channel or Discovery Channel as such.
If you go there, turn right out of McDs lot, and follow the signs back to I4 West Tampa Disney (Left turn after the overpass) then take the 1st exit which is the 528.

Dear Truck1,

You are so nice, but you do not have to do that, you know?

I said Mcds thinking Walmart usually has Mcds in there store and I want to get case of water, killing two birds with one stone type a thing.

No Walmart, no Mcds. ;)

Down here, Wm has different rest in different stores.(The one closest to me has a Blimpies.)In that area, you cant throw a rock without hitting a Walmart or Kmart. Im not sure what the Turkey Lake store has for a rest.Ive driven past it I dont know how many times, but have never been in it.

I was planning on going to either DHS or Mk this week anyway, and usually stop at one of the Hess stations for something to drink on the way out, so its nothing to look.

So, just to be sure, if I'm going from the BWV, the EASIEST way to go, so I can't possibly get lost (DH cannot read the signs), would be to get on I-4 East, then 528 East (staying to the right after the airport exit, so I don't accidentally end up at the Kennedy Space Center), then just follow the signs to the port. No other turns before the signs?

I can't miss the signs to the port, can I?
