We want to go to DW Christmas but don't want to pay 200 for a tiny value room. We need a nice hotel with good transportation to the parks. Have heard stories about people waiting in the middle of a parking lot for hours and not getting to the parks in the morning. Any suggestions?

rent a car and drive

You won't get the reliable transportation that you would get
staying onsite but I'm sure there are some hotels that are better than
others. Maybe the Good Neighbor Hotels.

I thought only DLR had "good neighbor" hotels :confused3

The hotels on Hotel Blvd. offer sheduled transportation to the parks on a half hour schedule am and pm, more sparse in mid-day. The Hilton is the only off-site hotel that participates in EMH.

We had a great stay at the Buena Vista Suites hotel -- didn't use their transportation. How are you planning on getting to the hotel? Renting a car might be a better option.

I'm a huge fan of staying offsite, as I think it's more value for your money. But, I'd never do it without a car.

We'll have a car but we've been spoiled by just taking bus/monorail/boats on our vacation. We COULD drive if we had to. Traffic at DTD is horrible though.

I would decide which you'd rather do: drive to the parks, or spend the money to stay onsite. There just isn't anything offsite that's nearly as convenient as Disney transportation. If you stay down in the Windsor Hills area, driving is very easy as you don't have to deal with the DTD traffic.

We stayed at the Doubletree and pricelined it for $60 a night back in October. Very nice suites and amenities. Buses ran on the hilton and Royal plaza circuit to all the parks and Downtown disney. They were right on time on half hour intervals and I think they picked up up to half hour after closing at parks. No complaints..looked and ran the same as Disney resort buses. I think a 3.5 star bid for lake buena vista will fetch you one of these.

Thanks for the tips. Its still hard to decide but the higher Dis goes the better offsite looks.
