Combining points with gen'l public code?

Anyone ever had any luck combining a points stay with a discount? With the newly released 40/45% code for deluxe villas, it makes the weekend approx. $440(cash equiv based on average $10/point rental) cheaper than using points.

Just looking for previous experiences......

TIA!

Where did you find the newly released code and how long is it in effect?
I have paid cash for weekends and points for days on either side of the weekend but this was through MS not Central reservations.
Thanks,
Tina

Several have reported that they book weekends through CRO and combine that with a points stay. You have to make sure that the cash reservation and the points reservation are for exactly the same thing if you do not want to move. For example, you can't have a lock out room for cash and a dedicated room for points.

Remember that some DVC room types & views are not available for cash no matter who books the cash reservation for you.

If you book cash through CRO, at a minimum you have to check out and back in again between the cash and points stay. It is possible that you will have to change rooms. They do try to keep you in the same room if they can and if you have cross referenced the reservations and noted that you want to stay in the same room.

Go to the Disney website. They have all the info. The deal was released yesterday and it is good for most stays through mid June (I think). A few weeks around EAster are blacked out though.

Good luck!

To add to what Carol said, if one is trying to combine CRO cash with DVC points stays, that locks you out of most special room types including locations. Just make sure that the 2 reservations are combinable like BWV preferred (but not standard or BW view) or OKW anything other than near HH.

So in your opinion, does it matter which one you book first? And Dean, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by being locked out of certain types/locations...?

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. my reference was to views within a resort such as BWV or Savannah view or locations such at at OKW where HH area is a separate booking category. IMO, it doesn't matter which you book first other than you should check with DVC and CRO to make sure what you are getting can be set up so you MAY not have to change rooms.

Got it....thank you! :thumbsup2

One other concern you may have - you cannot link at DRC reservation with a MS reservation. You must check out and check in again AND you may have to move. You'll need to have both reservation numbers listed with the other reservation and check with the CM at the front desk when you check in.

Make sure the names on the reservation match exactly to help smooth this out. Then ask when you check in to see if you are blocked into the same room for both stays.
