Please tell me the good and bad about MGM Grand

I have a MGM Grand, West wing room booked 3/26 to 4/2 for a $48. weekday rate and $110. weekend rate. First visit to Vegas so I'm clueless if this is a good deal. We most likely will be renting a car.

Would love to hear all about this hotel from the experienced Vegas vistor.
Just a FYI- we don't gamble. Just want some warm weather and fun things to do.

But that is the best deal I can find.
MGM is a great resort. Huge casino, great pool (tho weather is hit & miss that time of year...we have been during a heat wave then, and highs in 60s other time). Decent rooms. Lots of dining choices.
I prefer a more central location, but I can't find a deal as good as that one at a comparable midstrip property, so I'd go with it.

I stayed there last month and relly enyoyed it. I was in the main part of the hotel. The elevators are broken into to sections that service 12 (I think) floors each. Make sure you know which one is yours as it is confusing and they all look the same. My room was beautiful with a view. The beds are very soft. The bathroom was ok. They offered me a west wing room but I passed as I heard they were "dark & dreary" even though new. Some girlfriends and I booked a special rate package we saw in the LA Times. Weekends were $99 and weekdays $48, we stayed 4 nights so it averaged $74 per night and we felt like we got a great deal. It was great to drink Bailey's & coffee for just a tip while playing penny slots during the day. I actually made a little on the virtual roulette game - fun. My only two complaints would be that the hotel is so ginormous it takes forever to walk somewhere and you can get lost easily and the food venues were very pricey. But it's a nice place and the staff were all great.

ITA on the vastness of this place. But while they do have restaurants including Joel Robuchon which has 3 Michelin stars and can cost, no joke, about $400 per person, they also have a McDonalds at the food court and a Rainforest Cafe. I like the Wolfgang Puck Cafe; they have these blue cheese potato chips to die for and this incredible salad called the Chinois Salad.

Tink, be aware that the West Wing rooms are a long walk from anything at MGM Grand!! You are getting a great rate tho. Have fun planning your trip!

I stayed at the MGM last August. I was a little disappointed in the room decor. I got the PRIMA card (it's s $500 credit on your room) - you would be upgraded to a King Suite (I didn't take that because there was a group of us and all of our rooms were beside each other), free limo ride to another hotel, buy 1 get 1 free drinks and dinners (completely worth it), free entry to the Studio 54 and Tabu, and no wait line-ups (taxis and buffet - sounds silly but it saved us a lot of time).

I would definitely stay at MGM - great pool area! I rented a cabana ($250 for the day) - it was worth it!

We stayed at MGM once before and really liked it. We have comped rooms for our visit in March as well. I had also heard about the West Wing being a bit dark and also that the bathroom opened up into the room so privacy was an issue.

MGM IS huge, however, I think the signage is good. I also like the location on the strip. Additionally, it has a monorail station. The monorail can be a bit pricy but it is a great, safe way to quickly get up the strip!! Make sure you sign up for the Players Club ... that's how we are getting comped rooms.

Sometimes you can get a free room upgrade if you try "the $20 trick" when checking in. They will ask for your credit card and ID. Just put a folded $20 bill in between and, handing it over, ask if they have any complimentary upgrades. If they can't help you, they will give the $20 back. We tend to get upgraded 75% of the time we do this!! Last time we tried this at Bally's, we got upgraded to a HUGE, suite!!! It was great!

Also, I have read that from the West Wing there is a "short-cut" to the strip. You may want to check into this.

Otherwise, based on my experience, I think MGM is a great choice. You have Tropicana, Excalibur, NYNY on the other corners all connected by over-the-road walk-way. From Excalibur, there is a free monorail in front that connects you to Luxor and Mandalay Bay (there is also a back, internal walk way between the three properties as well). Across the street, just to the North is Monte Carlo which also has a free monorail (in the back) that connects you to City Center and Belliagio. So, yes, MGM is a great location.

Also, MGM has a food court in addition to all the expensive restaurants. You can go on-line to get some great 2-for-1 coupons for Nathan's. I know you don't gamble, however, you do get free drinks while playing. Just find a low limit game to play. And PLEASE remember to tip your waitress $1 for each drink (whether it is bottled water, coffee or alcohol). That's how they make a living and you will get continued service this way as well.

How do you sign up for a Player's Club? Is it something online? Do you have to gamble a lot?

A comped room would be great. My husband and I are looking to go in a couple months but budget is holding us back.

Really need some buy one get on free airfare.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you ever go to Biloxi? Because MGM Grand is owned by the same company as Beau Rivage (MGM MIRAGE). I believe you can earn points at Beau Rivage and use them at their other properties.

Where did you get such great rates for the MGM grand?? We were looking for rates in August and the lowest rate we got on the website was $119 a night. Is that normal for early or late August (checked 4 nights during both times)

You sign up for the Players Club once you are there at the casino. Signing up once you are there won't help you for this trip, unless you play enough that you rack up some comps.

If you do think you have earned some comps, make sure you have a credit card on file for your room, go to the Players Club desk the night before check-out and ask. If you do have enough, they will work with the front desk to apply the comps.

Once you are home, you will want to check your Players Club account on line to see if you have any offers for future trips. You may also get some via e-mail or in the regular mail.

Remember that each casino group has their own players clubs -- the big ones are "Players Club" for MGM/Mirage properties, then there is the "Total Rewards" for the Harrahs properties, etc.
