Ho! Ho! Ho! Away we go - A Disney Christmas - 2/15 Dec TR final thoughts and FEB TR!

WOW!! Your travels down 95 sound so scary!!! I'm glad you made it with no incidents!!!

Your report had been great so far, even without many pictures ;), can't wait for more!!!

I second you Jackie... I worry terribly about forgetting things, so in a rush to leave early I would have gone crazy!

I sure hope we can meet up in June.

Oh I was worried I was missing something -- I felt very frazzled NOT at all Mary Poppin's like!!! :rotfl: But it was all part of the adventure in a way!!

I don't know that we are going to get there any earlier than the 20th! Did you say you would be there still?

What a beginning! I think my heart rate jumped up a little! :rotfl: We drove up to Virginia the same day and ran into some snow but not much. A little further north and we'd have been into it sure enough!

It is odd how it fell throught the region, I can't believe it was so concentrated in a specific path, but it was heart racing for me too, trying not to watch my husband drive!

I'm in Austin. Snow is RARE. I mean we get excited if we get a flurry and if it sticks to the hood of the cars overnight. Forget sticking to the ground, much less accumulation.

We do get ice storms maybe once or twice a winter.

But that's about it.

Supposedly early 80s this area got lots of snow, but it was never the norm, that's for sure!

Ya know what they say about Texas, though...... if you don't like the weather, stick around and it'll change!

:goodvibes

HA! It is a big enough state I can see why that would be a saying!!!
We get ICE too... that I dislike immensely.

Whew!

Glad you made it through all that.

Sounds nutso!

:cool1: for heavenly beds!!

You know I was hesitant to book there vs. a regular Disney resort for one night, but my husband said it would be a good location for our transfer to the BCV, and they are good hotels. Which is true. Business class, etc. I was very happy with the accomodations for the one night. We slept in and slept well!

Thanks! Yup! No incidents, fortunately, just a lot of cold cold snow and convenience store coffee!!! :) Though we did get to a drive through Starbucks around Jacksonville!!!!:thumbsup2

I'm glad you made it without too many problems. I thought about y'all that whole day!

Bring on the Disney Christmas fun! :thumbsup2

I'm happy I found your TR- I love it! That drive sounds AWFUL. I would have been completely freaking out. I'm glad you made it, though!

That sounds crazy!! I'm glad you guys hit the road when you did... I don't know that I would have! DH probably would have thrown me out of the car - I'm a really nervous backseat driver under normal weather/road conditions!

Whew! What a wild journey to Disney for you!!! Kudos to your DH for being able to navigate through that mess of traffic and snow! It sounds like the stuff of movies!

So, you left at 9:00 at night and didn't reach Orlando until 4:30 the following afternoon? Did I read that correctly??? I would have been so sick of the car at that point!

Yep, leaving behind the tennis shoes is definitely something I would do.

Oh my goodness! What a journey!!! Did you ever consider stopping/turning around? Is that a crazy question for a DISer?

It was a new car you were "testing," right? Sounds like it passed with flying colors.

Your DH is so sweet to tell you to relax and go to sleep. I don't think I could have done it.

How did the boys do? Were they getting antsy?

Thank goodness you arrived- sounds like a great room with a view of Illuminations even!! Know you only spent one night there but would you recommend the hotel or is it just "not quite Disney?"

OK. Enough questions (for now). Keep those updates coming.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! What fun plans do you guys have for tonight? I know there is always a celebration in the Happydog household! :upsidedow

Wow - that was crazy!! :scared1: I'm so glad you all made it down safely!

Can't wait to hear about the BCV, we walked around there some on the last day of our trip. Looks like a great place to stay.

Oh! Good job finding a drive through Starbucks! That reminds me I have to go pick up some coffee for our trip!

I'm here with my homemade Mocha...(usually my Starbucks treat) all ready to read about your Disney Christmas...can't wait...:surfweb:...:santa:

Even without pictures your trip report is off to a great start. I am glad you were in Disney and not here having to shovel all that snow.

You really made that drive sound quite painless.........
Now tell truth, how was it really?:lmao:

Merry New Year to the Happydog clan! Tell the guys hello from their Kansas friends!

My goodness! That update didn't need any pictures..... it was riveting enough on its own. That being said, I can't wait to see pictures!

Thankfully you made it there without incident and I too am curious what you thought about the Dolphin.

Happy New Year! party::drinking1

Well, thankfully THEY were asleep!!!! That was our reason for leaving at a time they would pass out. Of course we had INTENDED to be quite a lot further when they awoke, which would prevent them from feeling cooped up in the car for long... they didn't mind the drive I don't think. The new car had DVD players -- so that was a savior!

I'm happy I found your TR- I love it! That drive sounds AWFUL. I would have been completely freaking out. I'm glad you made it, though!

Oh the drive was quite crazy. One of those things that when you are in the middle of it, you can't quite get your mind around the experience, you know? My DH is a hero though.... he didn't nap or anything before we left, worked a full day, and then he drove through nutty weather for six hours. Can you believe it??!! He said the adrenaline rush took care of that!

That sounds crazy!! I'm glad you guys hit the road when you did... I don't know that I would have! DH probably would have thrown me out of the car - I'm a really nervous backseat driver under normal weather/road conditions!

Meee tooo.... that is why he said GO TO SLEEP, we will be fine. I watched some... He said my "gasps" as I was "freaking out" watching people slide, narrow misses, etc, were distracting him  So he said to close my eyes!!!

Whew! What a wild journey to Disney for you!!! Kudos to your DH for being able to navigate through that mess of traffic and snow! It sounds like the stuff of movies!

Yep, leaving behind the tennis shoes is definitely something I would do.

Okay well let me say it this way, the drive home, we left DTD a little after 6:00pm... hit a little traffic getting onto 4 (?) whatever that interstate is that takes you to Jacksonville. But, we were walking in the door of our HOUSE at a little after 8:00am on Monday am... so 14 hours. Again, driving overnight was easy with the two of us... I drove from Orlando to Jacksonville. DH drove through the night (he is more of a night owl) and I drove again from 5:00am to the garage! We get books on tape that keep us alert and attentive... but the drive down took an additional 4 hours... all in VA, if you can believe it. Now we stopped for breakfast, and with gas stops I'd say we intentionally were out of the car/not driving for an hour... but the rest was on 95. Made the drive home a breeze!!!!

And yes, sneakers, :headache: I wish I would have brought my fit flops... tried to get some Mickey head ones but they didn't have my size... And I wish I would have brought at least one pair of shorts/capris... I only brought jeans/khaki pants.... I brought dress sandals/wedges but not for the parks! It was odd, but I couldn't think straight to pack right!!!

Wow - that was crazy!! :scared1: I'm so glad you all made it down safely!

Can't wait to hear about the BCV, we walked around there some on the last day of our trip. Looks like a great place to stay.

Oh, BCV = AMAZING. Lots of people LOVE the BC!!!! We are staying again this summer!!! :thumbsup2 WIG'D is MISTRESS of the BCV!!!

Oh! Good job finding a drive through Starbucks! That reminds me I have to go pick up some coffee for our trip!

YUP!!!! :thumbsup2 That was a SCORE!! We have to remember which exit it was at, somewhere in Jacksonville I think, it was perfect!!!

I'm here with my homemade Mocha...(usually my Starbucks treat) all ready to read about your Disney Christmas...can't wait...:surfweb:...:santa:

Ooooh HOME MADE Mocha.... just up my alley! I got a great espresso machine.... the kind that requires you to push the button and it takes care of the rest!! I am sitting here with my own latte right now!!!! :thumbsup2

So when are you at the BC this summer.... We will be there June 18-22....that is a change right, you were not planning on staying there?
