Please tell me more about Garden Grocer!

So after going back and forth, and back and forth, I finally talked DH into flying to WDW rather than the 15 long drive!! (After we took into account the 400 in gas it would cost, and the two extra days I would have to take off of work and not get paid, He realised we weren't saving that much money by driving) Anyway, we are going to arrive on a Sunday, and stay until the following Sunday. We are going to rent a car from Wedensday morning to Friday morning to do some non-disney things (gasp). So for most of the trip, we will be without a car. I want to try Garden Grocer, but want to know how it works. Do they bring the groceries to your room, or do you have to go pick them up from the lobby? Can we have them delivered so they are there when we arrive? We need to order milk, so how would the milk stay cold if they drop it off at our resort before we arrive? Is it worth it? I plan on ordering milk, cereal, single serving chips, juice boxes, chocolate milk, and fruit. We are on the meal plan, but thought we would save credits by grabbing a bowl of cereal for breakfast.

Thanks!

We have used Garden Grocer the last four trips. I think it's great! The food is delivered to the resort within a two hour time span of your arrival, I believe. I also believe that things that are perishable are kept cold at the resort. We have always checked in and then either stopped by bell services or called to say we want our package delivered to our room. It's definitely worth it for us because we have two little kids who need lots of snacks, plus DS is allergic to dairy so I order him rice milk from GG. Hope you have a great trip! :thumbsup2

We used it in October 2008...what a great help! We were at POFQ...we selected a delivery window to correspond with when we expected to check in. They forgot a couple of things, but sent them over for us. We ended up having the Disney folks bring the stuff to our room (cases of water yikes!) and tipped them...better than lugging it ourselves.

Lots of variety in their on line store.

A bit pricey but very convenient.

We've use GG the last 3 trips, and it's worked like a charm! I try to select a delivery time that coincides with our flight arrival in Orlando. If our stuff is at the resort before we get there, and are able to get in our room right away, then I can unpack clothes and groceries all at once, and be done with it. GG will store your items with bell services, including fridge stuff (bell svcs keeps it refrigerated) until your arrival.

We plan to use them again for our next trip!

We've used them twice and everything was great! Plan on using them next trip.

...we used them for the first time last April. It was very convenient and I thought very reasonable! We were also able to purchase alcohol...;)

We will definitely use them on our next trip April 2010!!!:thumbsup2

I'm interested in ordering from GG also. How far in advance should I place my order?

It really depends on the time of year (peak vs. regular season). We've gone in Sept and Nov, and placed my order 6 weeks in advance so that I could select the delivery time I wanted. One trip, I spaced, and waited until 4 weeks in advance, and all the "prime" delivery times were already booked. Something to keep in mind...

Wow, guess I'll place my order right now. Thanks for the advice!

Can you pay for Garden Grocer in advance ?

If our room is not ready at 11 am at our resort arrival time, we go to a Park for lunch and a bit of touring. The we go back to thr resort around 4 or 5 PM and check into our room (assume its ready by that time).

So can Garden Grocer deliver our food items (non perishables - water bottles, cereal. snacks) in the afternoon to our resort while we are out and can we pre-pay them ?

I'm trying to place my order now. I'd like to order a six pack of beer but I can't seem to find it on the website. Is there a trick to ordering alcoholic beverages?

Is there a minimum purchase? We've ordered from them before and I seem to remember a minimum $75 purchase but can't seem to find it on their website.

You pre-pay on the website, and you can even leave a tip for delivery person when you pay. They pack the perishables separate from the non-perishables, and the resort will keep them cold for you until you are ready to have them delivered to your room. So whatever time works for you is fine.

To order items that are NOT on their website, you enter it into the comments section on the order form. you can enter grocery, alcohol, or non-grocery items here. Like...6-pack Miller Lite cans or 12 pk Miller Lite bottle, or bottle of Blackstone Merlot, etc. IF you order something obscure that they cannot find, they will call you. They will also call you when they have the extra items so you will know your new dollar total for credit card charge. I have even ordered a big sand bucket and shovel toy set for delivery. They are awesome:thumbsup2

Didn't know you could do that...That's so cooll! Next time I will order some beer and who knows what else yet!

Just an FYI on the "tip"...

Last trip, which was our first time using Garden Grocer, the website gave us the option to either pay the tip at time of purchase, or we could opt to pay in person at the time of delivery. So we decided to pay the delivery person when they arrived with our groceries. Surprisingly, our groceries were delivered to the Resort before we got there (we were on time, I think they were probably in the area and just wanted to deliver ASAP - and called to advise the groceries would be left at Bell services) so we were not able to leave a tip. Next trip, we will put the tip on the initial order.;)

Used GG in September and LOVED it. SO convenient and great service. I was able to order most of what I wanted using the regular site and placed a request in the comments section that was accomodated.

They called me at home a few days before we left to confirm that they'd be delivering on x date. Then on that day got a call on my cell while still on Magical Express that they'd already dropped off my order (it was maybe 2 minutes into the 2 hour window I'd selected) and it was with bell services. Bell services at Beach Club kept the cold stuff cold and delivered it all when we called down.

HIGHLY recommend it. :thumbsup2

good to know. I really need my International Delight in my morning coffee, and couldn't find it on the website. So I pick out my stuff, tell them the other things i want, and they call me and let me pay for the additional items seperately?

You know....I don't remember if they charged my credit card seperately for the extra items or if they just added it to the other total and put the whole charge thru at once. I just remember that they told me how much the extra items were to OK it before the delivery and credit card charge.

Is there a minimum purchase? We've ordered from them before and I seem to remember a minimum $75 purchase but can't seem to find it on their website.

The minimum order is $40.00, at least it was in April. The cost of alcohol does not count towards your minimum.
