I will assume your mother no longer has a DD1173 so he would have to purchase and activate the tickets. The tickets can only be activated by a service member or a person whose DD1173 indicates Spouse or Unremarried Widow.
Asking for a clarification... According to Mousesavers, these can be bought on base and you are given a voucher. Can the tickets be activated on base, or does a person with an active ID have to activate them at the ticket window before they will work (in other words, in the post you responded too, would her dad have to be at the park with them on Day 1 or could he buy them on base, activate somehow and ship to her?)

If it works like '09 than the member needs to be at the parks to show I.D and activate the tickets.

Unfortunately that won't work... my cousin AND her husband are active duty and they only needed 4 of them, so offered some to me, but I am going to be there before she is and I don't want to take the chance. Oh well, glad I clarified.

As long as the tickets were purchased and activated there is no problem. They may ask for the names at the time the tickets are activated, in which case the names will print on the tickets. They do not have to be with you at the time the tickets are activated.

Thanks. I figured it wouldn't be an issue, and there's actually a very small chance that my sister and her husband will be able to go back before September. My sister is due to have a baby at the end of June.
We're actually not sure if we'll end up going the first time. It will be a last minute trip if we do.

If we use are tickets in August can we wait Intel Dec to upgrade to annual passes?

Considering the tickets will have expired in September, I doubt this will work.

our DS bought our tickets for us in 09 because my DH had already bought the amt he was alloted for our trip in May. When we went back this past Dec our DS couldnt go with us due to military obligations so all we needed was a copy of his ID front and back...he was not needed to be there to activate our tickets, worked out without any problems!

Did your husband have to show his military ID? From what we were told, and what I read here on the Dis, someone with a military ID had to be present. It seems a little silly to have to show a photo copy of someones ID, as the vouchers have to be bought at a military institution anyways. I thought the point of checking ID at the time of activation was to insure that it was the military member using them. I thought Disney had set it up that way to prevent a military member from buying the discounted tickets and then selling them for profit (this would be pretty easy if all you had to do was give someone a photo copy of your ID.)
I'm glad it worked for you though! It would make it easier for friends and extended family to participate if that's the case.
I would call to make sure that wasn't an exception to the rule before planning a trip and traveling to Florida though.
When we activated our tickets they asked for my husbands ID.

You lucked out. The person who activated the tickets for you put their job in jeopardy doing that.

Does adding the water park option for $25 give you 4 days at Water Parks and Disney Quest in addition to the 4 days in the parks? So you get 4 days in the parks and 4 additional days at water parks/disney quest.

We took advantage of the Salute deal this past year and made two trips out of it because it's difficult for us to get away for more than a few days at a time. The tickets didn't expire until Dec 23rd, so we went in May for a few days and in September for a few days.

I'm wondering if we would be able to do the same thing this year? If we do like before, and add the WPF&M and park hopper options, there is plenty to do over the course of two 4-day trips.

Thanks for any input.

I would like an answer to this question as well, thanks.:goodvibes

The Water Park Fun and More tickets are in addition to your base park tickets. Meaning you can spend a day at Blizzard Beach for instance, and that doesn't count against the 4-day park tickets.

What you are given on base is a voucher that has to be turned into a ticket and then activated on WDW property. The military member is supposed to be present for ticket activation, from my understanding and past experiences.

The 2010 Military Salute deal (as it stands now and according to what I have read) expires on July 31, 2010 so any unused days on those 2010 Military Salute tickets will be null and void on August 1st. This appears to be just like the 2009 Military Salute with the tickets expiring on Dec. 31, 2009.

Thanks for the input. I seem to remember reading that they expire on September 30, 2010, but you seem to be more knowledgeable on this stuff, so I will go with that.

:headache: Doh! [hiding behind the monitor] You are right, the tickets do expire on Sept. 30, 2010... they can be purchased through July 31, 2010.

Purchased... used... purchased... used.... toe-may-toe... toe-ma-toe... easy to confuse them. :rolleyes1

:thumbsup2 No worries! All the dates definitely begin to run together after reading them a million times.

Is there any reason beyond "hoping" that we should expect the Sept. 30th date to change?

You get your 4 DAYS in the 4 main parks (MK, EP, AK, HS) WHen you add the water park option, you get 4 ENTRIES into the waterparks or DisneyQuest. If you choose, you could use one of those waterpark entries on the same day that you go to a main park (like do MK in the morning, then hit DQ in the evening) OR you can use those &More entries on separate days--to make it seem like your trip is 8 days long.

Does that make sense?

You can also use more than one entry/day. Like Tl in the am, BB in the afternoon and DQ in the eveing, for example.

ETA--see this thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1452684 for all ticket questions. Post 15 has the info you are looking for

We emailed Disney GR our problem with the tickets...and a CM called us back and gave us a code that made a file for us so when we went to GR the CM put in the code the note came up with our situation and it was no problem using a copy of our DS's military ID, my DH did have his on him as well, but the tickets werent under his name in the first place! So, it was all Disney's doings it wasn't just the CM doing it for us

This is a "canned" response modified for the Armed Forces Salute 2010 tickets with the assumption you have both the Park Hopper and Water Park Fun and More (WPF&M) options.

Hopefully this will make it a little clearer. In effect you have two tickets with different privileges on one card. Everything expires at Midnight on September 30, 2010. Even if you use up all your major park days, the WPF&M entries remain valid until used or 09/30/10. (Note you do not have to use the days consecutively.)

You have four days of access to the four major parks (AK, DHS, EC, MK), and may visit more than one major park on a single day without any extra charges. Without the Park Hopper option you can only go to one major park per day.

You have four entries to the minor parks (BB, DQ, OT, TL, WWS). These may or may not be used on the same days as you go to the major parks. However, if you went to TL in the morning, Oak Trail in the afternoon, and Disney Quest in the evening of one day you would have used three of the four entries. (Note that leaving and returning to the same minor park on the same day does not use an extra entry.)

If you go to minor parks only on one day and do not go to a major park you do not use up one of your major park days.

If you were to go to a Water Park in the morning and then one of the major parks for the remainder of the day you would have used one minor park entry and one day of major park entry.

Note that with the ticket unless you have the hopper option you can only go to one major park per day. Unless you have the WPF&M option you cannot go to a minor park without upgrading or purchasing a separate ticket.
