All Star Sports or Saratoga Springs???

We were planning a trip to AsSp with our 30%off pin when a DVC friend offered her points to us at a very discounted price..great! But this is my 11yr olds 1st trip to the World and I want it to be very memorable for him. I've heard that the food court at Saratoga isn't that great but they have a water slide at their pool. On the other hand, my son was so excited about all the sports things...I guess there would be no big price difference in the end on whichever we choose...WHAT TO DO??? HELP!!!:scared1:

if it were me - I'd show my son pictures of both resorts and let him decide. but that's just me....whatever decision you make you'll be at Disney and a magical time will be had by all :)

have a great trip! :goodvibes

I would certainly pick a deluxe resort over a value any day of the week and twice on Sunday...but, I'm not a an 11 year old boy! I agree...let your son choose. If he really wants the sports thing, then make him happy. I do think Saratoga Springs, as much as I love it, feels the least "Disney" of the resorts. It is a nice, relaxing refuge from the hustle and bustle, but within walking distance to DtD, which is great. However, from a kid's point of view, that may not really be a big deal.

Another way to look at is that the SSR studio will have a frig and microwave plus a couch instead of another bed. How long will you be staying? The SSR studio is larger than *** BUT as PP said there is more theming at ***.

I had an opportunity to stay at SSR for the first time this year and it does have its advantages and disadvantages.

I didn't like the fact, that unlike many of the other resorts, you had to walk all the way up to food court building - past the bus stop - to get breakfast and then walk all the way back to the bus stop. We solved that by buying a bag of bagels, some milk and juice, and cream cheese at the Artist's Palatte. We felt the CS at Artist's Palette was dismal and we saved our CS for lunch in the parks, since many of our TS were late in the day. A few mornings, when we had earlier TS, we opted for DTD at Wolfgang Puck's Express or Earl of Sandwich.

DTD was so nice and close - we were there till midnight every night.

I did love the view from the room - third floor balcony, and the beautiful lake; so peaceful. Loved the pool, and the arcade was right near by.

And the bus service was very good; I don't think we waited more than ten minutes for a bus once.

I think it is good to experience a DVC when you can - I think your son would enjoy either place, but I would definately let him decide - he is old enough to understand.

My DS11 says "SSR all the way!".

Now, mind you, we have stayed at SSR several times, but never ASSP...but we saw the Food Court at ASSP once & walked around the pool area for 3 minutes & that was ENOUGH. YUCK...in this family's opinion.

DS says go for Saratoga! :yay:

Any vacation at Disney is a great vacation but I would pick the deluxe resort (Saratoga Springs) over the value resort (All Star Sports). Nicer accommodations, amenities and a great boat ride to DTD. Either way, have a great vacation with your family and enjoy the holidays. :cool1::banana:

SSR. You can take boats to DTD where there is alot to do. Take the balloon ride! :goodvibes

I agree with a PP about SSR having awesome bus service - we experienced the same thing when we stayed there in October. We never waited longer than 10 minutes for a bus, and often when we were leaving a park and going back to SSR, a bus was waiting for us and we had no wait at all. If you don't like the food court at SSR (I thought it was ok), you can always eat at DTD - you'll be very close.

OMGoodness!!! I can't believe I got so many responses so quickly! :goodvibes
:yay:THANK U, THANK U, THANK U:yay:
From what the DF and DS think, I think we're gonna go for the SSR! Like my DS says, "Mom, it's not like we're never gonna go back to Disney again...we can try ASSP the next trip." Wow! I never expected that! Besides, we're also getting married while we're there so it'll make it that much more special:love:. Just thought I'd get ideas from those of you that have been before. Thanks again so much for so many great responses so quickly.
:banana:SSR, look out cuz here we come!!!

Wow! Congratulations! I'm sure you will love SSR. Like all resorts, it has good points and not-so-good points. But I would also always pick a deluxe over a value. Have a great time.

This trip is about your son and his first time going.. I'd let him choose :) OR you can compromise and do a split stay as well. ;)

Its no contest. SSR all the way. All Stars are nice but they dont hold a candle. People knock the food court, but we like it much better than most places.

We think that Artist Pallette at SSR, the quick service is the best on property, so it really just depends on what you like to eat.

Actually, this trip is about getting married. We're just able to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, so to speak. He was actually the first one to say go to SSR so I think we'll have a trip to remember no matter what.:goodvibes

Well then Congratulations are definitely in order!! Not to look a gift horse in the mouth being that your friend is giving you a deal on points, but if this for your wedding maybe they have enough points so you can rent a 1BR? It can never hurt to ask :)

You will have a great trip, when we went my bro's kids loved the pool and watching the movie while goofing around in the water. We stayed in the Grandstand section (by choice) and the busses were great there. Food on the other hand we thought was so-so when compared to AKV/BKL and CR/BLT -- part of the problem may have been the youngest was on a child's QS meal plan but the food on the child's meal plan just sucks; for AKV they let us bump her up to adult since we are DVC and our tickets etc weren't tied in together.
