"Life itself is the proper binge" - Update 4/6 - Kona & Captain Cook's

I just carry the benedryl in my purse now. :confused3 I have mild, light reactions to odd things that never bothered me before. Sometimes even the sulfer in the water (must be before, during, or after a water treatment). It is aggrevating but not life threatening either.

Good to know! I think I'm going to tell my mother to start carrying it around so we dont have to go pay 2.50 for 2 pills again.

I thought FF's Creme Brulee was the best I've ever had!
It really is! I love White Chocolate and I love Creme Brulee so the two of them together are :cloud9: & for the price it seems to be a good deal even for those OOP with the size of it.

Day 4: Breakfast & A Snack!

Everything Pop!

We woke up this morning around 6:00AM (which might have had something to do with the fact that my mother fell asleep at 9PM) & after getting ready and getting her luggage to the car, we walked over to Everything Pop! for breakfast.

This morning I went with the
POP Waffle Platter w/ Bacon $5.69
& my two drinks:
Chocolate Milk (which I gave to my mother)
Monster (which I saved to bring home again)

1000416z.jpg

As this was freshly cooked & not out of the warmer, it was much better than the pancakes the day before. For the price, it was a decent breakfast to start the day. Worth 1 dxdp credit? Probably not, but meh.

sw6s.jpg

My mother went with an egg crossiant.

She started eating it before I got a picture so I didn't get one.

She said this was eh - she had to reheat it in the microwave to get the cheese to melt and the eggs above lukewarm. But she wasn't expecting much from it & it was enough to get her started for her drive home.

sw2v.jpg

Overall - breakfast at the Pop is just ok. If I wanted excellent food that is really fresh I know I need to go to a table service rather than a food court but this is quick and easy so you can't really ask much more from it.

Starring Rolls!

After hitting Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror & RnRC, I decided I wanted a little snack as I continued my journies in Hollywood Studio. I had seen & read reviews of the Chocolate Peanut Butter cupcake throughout the Dis & other places on the internet so I figured I should use one of my 5 snack credits left to enjoy it. (Apparently I forgot to mention my mother & I got a popcorn & water the day before we left Magic Kingdom to enjoy while we were having our drinks at the Polynesian)

1000417.jpg

This really is as good as people here say it is. The icing is filled with chocolately peanut buttery flavor that is great to scoop up with the chocolate shavings. It is insanely rich and I couldn't eat more than a 1/3rd of it alone. I felt bad having to throw so much of it away but I couldn't eat another bite. I wish my mother or my husband were with me so maybe together we could have tackled the whole thing!

Flying Fish looks so good. Really scary tho with the allergic reaction. Was the manager able to give her a list of ingredients?

Ok, and I am totally having that Chocolate peanut butter cupcake! :worship: My sister tried to convince me that we should get the white chocolate and the butterfinger, but I'm going to have to stand my ground on this one.

Yeah we got the list of ingredients and nothing stood out as odd, which is weird. Oh well!

Yeah both of those cupcakes looked good too but I figured I had white chocolate the night before so that was out & had they not replaced the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcakes by the time I got to the display case - I would have gone with the Butterfinger.

Everything looks so good, glad your mother was o.k.:goodvibes

It was so tasty! I can't wait to go back in 6 weeks and get more Disney goodness!

Day 4: Lunch

Mama Melrose
As it neared lunch time, I had an ADR for Prime Time but I was getting out of Muppets and realized I hadn't had Mama Melrose in a long time (10 years or so) and thought, why not?

I walked in & was seated in about 10 minutes at a 4 top in the back part of the restuarant.

This is where I believe the service just wasn't there. It took about 15 minutes until my server came to my table, realized I was solo & on a dining plan & huffed! Looking back, I should have just left but for some reason I didn't.

I ordered my lemonade & with the 15 minutes it took her to show up to my table obviously I had picked out what I wanted to order. She wanted everything, including dessert & wasn't accepting that I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for yet. Yeah...

5 minutes later she returns with the bread & the drink.
1000438kp.jpg

She did mention she could get butter if I wanted but eh - I like Olive Oil better anyway.

After about 20 minutes, I'm served
Caesar Salad - with crisp romaine lettuce, Caesar dressing and crostini $5.49

1000440p.jpg

This was very good. However, my experience was this was muffled by after taking one single bite - my server came by and plopped my entree on the table.
I was a bit miffed and said something to her like "woah, where is the pacing here?"

To which I got a confused look & a response "Oh I guess you want me to hold it back then?"

"I don't want food that has been under a heating lamp for the 10 or so minutes it will take me to enjoy my salad"

and she walked back off with the entree.

As soon as I took the last bite of salad, another server brought out the pizza which with the consistancy of the cheese I could tell it was the same one brought to me earlier.

Grilled Pepperoni Flatbread - with Bell Peppers and sweet Onions $11.99

1000441t.jpg

Needless to say, I did not enjoy this. Partly from the my experience in the restaurant since I walked in & partly b/c the cheese was not freshly melted.

One slice in, my dessert was served & I gave up handed her my DxDP card & she mentioned needing ot have the tip written down to charge, I looked at her and said I'm not going to room charge that. And she huffed on back.

Mama's Tiramisu $5.99

1000442v.jpg

This was tasty yes but this place had left a sour note in my mouth by this point & I was done. While I enjoyed my Caesar Sald & the Tiramisu - the service sucked. Thus this restuarant as a whole gets:

sw3t.jpg

As I will not return.

I did leave her a $1 cash tip so she was aware I knew I should tip but she didn't really deserve much. No other restuarant made me feel like I was an annoyance to eating there & tried to rush me out the door after waiting so long to get service in the first place.

I am sorry you were treated so poorly! We had two very similar experiences at Mama Melrose's a few years back and said we'd never eat there again. I debated giving it another try this trip. Since it doesn't appear much has changed, I am glad I didn't!

That really sucks! A server should never treat someone that way! I'm really glad you left the $1. :lmao: I would have spoken to the manager too!

As a side note, it's amazing how a server really does alter your perspective of a restaurant. We had a great server at MM, and really enjoyed the food. :cloud9: It was one of our favorites. We had a terrible server at 'Ohana's and won't be back for a long time.

That is terrible! We ate at MM last month and our server was wonderful....I hate to say this but maybe it is a solo thing? When I had a solo lunch at Tutto Italia in June the server was horrible, rushed me alot, blamed me for losing my AP which he misplaced, took the AP discount instead of my TIW discount and was miffed that I made him correct it and didnt bother asking me if I wanted dessert which I did!

I dont like that kind of treatment at all.

It could have just been that server but who knows! It seems to get rather mixed reviews.

I debated on talking to a manager but in the end, I just wanted to get out of there. I did do a follow up email like I often do after trips with both the good & the bad.

A server can really make or break the meal. I don't blame you for not wanting to return to Ohana for a while!

Thats awful how the server treated you at Tutto! I'm debating on going there for lunch in July if I choose to not to do the dining plan as that one pasta dish was really good & will keep that in mind.

It could have been the solo thing.
At home I go out to eat alone a decent amount since my husband's work schedule is so opposite of mine & I just don't feel like cooking some days. There are certain places I won't return to w/o my husband as yes the service alone is so different the service you get when you are with somebody. Heck, it happened to me at the Olive Garden this week for lunch! Then again, Olive Garden has spotty service generally speaking so I go in not shocked when it happens.

Most of the places in Disney have never made me feel bad about being alone which is why I like to take my extra vacation time there when my husband can't join me. At least there are so many other restauarants that are awesome service & food wise so I don't have to worry about going back here! :goodvibes

I'm sorry about your experience at Mama Melrose. We've eaten there four times now and we have had great food and outstanding service each and every time (our worse service was at the Brown Derby and WCC). There is no excuse for the attitude and service you received.

By the way, I'm totally enjoying your reviews.

I am really enjoying your reviews - and the photos are great too. :) That's a shame about MM - we have eaten there twice and really enjoyed our meals. :)

That's great you had good service. I understand it happens as I've never had bad service at the Brown Derby so it all balances out in the scheme of Disney I think.

Thanks for joining in! I really enjoyed my appetizer & dessert food wise at least. :)

Going to start V&A sometime today. I've forgot the menu at home so I'll just be able to do the first few courses at this moment.

Day 4: Dinner - Part 1

Victoria & Albert's - Part 1

I can't believe I almost canceled this meal. Initially I had an ADR for 9:15PM & I had a friend that wanted to meet up around 9PM to hang out that night. This was on Thursday morning when he contacted me. I call V&A to cancel my reservation, and I gave them my reasoning why. Well, the reservations had some pixie dust up their sleeves :wizard: & were able to move my meal to 5:30PM despite what I was told earlier about there being no seating. :banana:Score!

I arrived near my ADR time and was promptly seated along the back wall with a direct view of the harpist. I was met with familiar faces for my servers. I believe I've now had them 6 different times.

While the menu was explained, I decided against the wine pairing as I figured I would be drinking heavily when I met up with my friend later that evening & decided to go with some earl grey tea.

1000445u.jpg

I tried to order things different than my last few visits so that I could spice things up a bit - which meant no kobe beef for me.

Shortly after ordering, I was brought out the amuse bouche:
1000446e.jpg

Starting in the top left corner and going clockwise:
Smoked Salmon, Salmon Egg Custard, Mini Caviar Crepe & Octopus

My favorites from this course were the Octopus & Smoked Salmon. In the past, I always disliked the custard they had placed in the egg & I was pleasantly surprised by the one in there this evening. The Crepe was probably the loser of this course but not by much.

Overall - this deserves a Yoda:

After finishing the amuse bouche, the plate was cleared & bread service started.
1000448z.jpg

The French mini baguette :cloud9: I personally could eat about 5 of them if it weren't for the progression of bread they now serve.

I LOVED the custard. My DH wanted mine and I was like hands off my plate! I was so excited that you updated til I realized it was only the amuse bouche!!Can't wait for more.

Loving the reviews!
Glad you are enjoying them!

OOOH, I can't wait for more! Keep it coming!
Will do! This one will probably have 3 more installments & then its time to get ready for my Feb trip! :cool1:

Haha, I can just see your husband trying to steal. Yeah I didn't have the menu with me at work so I didn't want to update without the real title of the courses. You should post a review of your recent meals, hint hint.

I'm really enjoying your reviews. Can't wait to hear more!:)
I'm glad you are along for the ride!

Can't wait for more.....:goodvibes
Thanks :)
