Charging to the room?

Does anybody know what the hold amount that is placed on a cc is? For our June trip I was planning on charging all our meals to the room and then paying it off with the $750 GC we get and paying the balance on another GC I plan to purchase before we leave (I am not big on cash). BUT we do not have any credit cards so we were going to use our debit card and our bank now charges overdraft fees on pending transactions so I have to make sure that I have enough money in the bank to cover the hold Disney places on the account and any bills or what not I have set to come out of the account.

ETA: Better yet could I use a GC to prepay a limit to charge to the room? I am a prepay kind of gal since dh is not so great with money.
TIA

Personally, I would just take the GC with you to the parks for food and purchases, and skip the room charges all together. But, if you still want to charge to your room, it is my understanding that they do not hold any funds on your card. They will let the charges accrue, then put through a charge when it hits a certain limit. (Ex: every $250 or whatever their magic number is.) Then at checkout, any remaining charges will be placed on your card. I do think you can use your GC as payment in advance for your charges. I also know that you can go by guest services at any time and pay off the balance on your account. But the easiest thing all around would be to just use your GC for all purchases... no harder to keep up with or whip out a GC for chatges than it is your KTTW.

Thank you. My main reasoning is I will only have to carry my room key around regardless and this way I would not have to keep track of 2 GC and how much is used/ left on each card. Plus I have heard that there are places that will charge things to your room but will not take GC and I would rather not worry about keeping track of which places will and will not take the GC.

You should be able to pre-pay with the gift card. IMO, it's the same as offering a cash deposit. I know there is no hold on the card. Your card will be charged the day you check out.

In the past, the card has been swiped at check-in to ensure it's valid, leaving a $1 charge on it, but there have been reports that the $1 doesn't show up anymore. I can't remember for certain.

1) There is no hold placed on a credit or debit card.
2) However, please be aware of your accumulated charges.
3) You card can be charged when you hit the max charges allowed.
. . . Values - $500
. . . Moids - $1,00
. . . Deluxes and DVC's - $1,500

It is not hard to keep track of how much is used/left on each gift card - every time you use a gift card, you get a receipt telling you how much is left on the card.

Every place that takes a room charge also accepts the gift card.

I am with the PP - rather than having to worry about overdraft fees and the like on your debit card, I would just use the gift cards.

We charged everything back to our room, even the ice cream from the food carts. We were advised at check-in that we could charge up to $1500.00 against our room (we were there for a week). I just made sure I kept all receipts to verify against the detail that was provided to us at check-out. The total was then charged against our credit card about 3 days after checking out. Not sure if we could have increased the limit of $1500, as we never came even remotely close to the limit. There was never a "hold" of any kind placed against our credit card (as I check our credit card balances every day). We were not on the dining plan, so all meals were OOP.

FYI - you can get a print out of current charges against your room at any time from the front desk or lobby concierge.

You can also choose to pay for those charges at any time. If for some reason you aren't able to apply the GC upon check-in, once your room charges reach the mark you can go to the front desk & make a payment on account using the GC.

The $1,500 limit applies at the Deluxe resorts (it is $1,000 at the Moderates and $500 at the Values). You cannot get it increased. If you reach the limit during your trip, they will charge the amount against your credit card and then reset the balance to $0. If you reach the limit, your room charge will stop working until the balance is charged to the credit card.
