Stormalong Bay Question

Okay, here is my situation. My family (DH and 2 sons, 2 and 5) is going to be staying at VWL this February. My parents (who hate Disney...I know, this is heresy) agreed to meet up with us, and they will be staying at the Beach Club. They have generously offered to watch our DS2 so that DH and I can spend some time with DS5 in Epcot, enjoying attractions that are a bit tough with a limited-patience two year old.

My father mentioned to me that he wanted to take DS2 to Stormalong Bay, and he thought he'd really enjoy it. Now. I know Stormalong Bay is very strict in enforcing the no-guest policy. My DS is not a guest of the Beach Club, although my parents would be. I think my father (already not a fan of Disney) would be tremendously upset if there were any issue with not being able to use the pool with his grandson. So here are my questions:

1. Do I prime my dad for the possibility that he is going to encounter problems with this and just get the "I hate Disney" response over with now?

2. Are there any other non-Stormalong Bay activities that I can suggest on the resort premises to mitigate against #1?

3. Why do my parents hate Disney so much?

4. Why didn't they just book at WL to make things simple for me? Why do they have to be new and different all the time? Just saying.

I'd appreciate any feedback on #s 1 and 2 and, for those with a background in psychology, perhaps some feedback on the other questions as well.

1) I don't think there willl be an issue especially if your ds is only two at the time - your father can just say he is staying with them.
2) - I don't think you will need to rethink SAB.
3) could not imagine! Send him for therapy..
4) - see number 3... Parents are obligated to make us nuts as they and we age....

My experience has been that children that young do not have to present a room id when with an adult who has a room id (which your father will have). I don't think it's going to be any issue for the grandparents to take one young child to SAB. We took our 3 year old grandson earlier this year and all adults had to show room key every time but our grandson didn't.

There's a very simple fix for this....your parents can add your son to their room reservation. There won't be any additional charge for this. Then he'll officially be a guest of the Beach Club, and there won't be any worries about resort IDs. :thumbsup2

Thanks to all of you! That makes me feel better. Lynne, I'm going to pass along the suggestion to my dad. I was hesitant to ask about my non-guest DS possibly being able to use the pool, because I've found that the "non-guest using the pool" inquirers often end up as a smoking pile of ash. ;)

My parents will have to find something else to hate about Disney, then, since this appears to be a non-issue.

As others have said, I don't think it will be a problem, as your DS is only 2. As long as youd Mom & Dad both have their resort ID's with them, then they should be fine. We took both of our kids for their first trips when they were 2, and because they did not need park tickets, we didn't get a KTTW for them.

As for #3, why do your parents hate Disney......That's up to you...Where did YOU go wrong??:lmao: I hope that they will feel the magic this trip...Is it their first time there with your DS? Seeing it through his eyes just might bring them around!

Parents did not book at WL because either a) they thought staying somewhere else would give you more "space" (although a separate room would have done the trick;)) or b) because they didn't like the looks of WL or WLV and wanted a more "Florida" look. (That's how I felt until I stayed at WL!)
They hate Disney just because they can, and as a bonus, it annoys you. Appreciate any time they will watch the kids for you, and move on. They will have some great memories (we lost my father-in-law, not the kids); make sure to get a Disney photographer get a pic of the grandparents and the kids! And my mother-in-law still swears I stole her WL refillable mug.
Have a great trip!:wizard:

Lol - former Bflo Chick here (Hamburg). Here are my answers -

1. Since they'll probably find something not to their liking - find a way to get the "I hate Disney..." over now and then you won't have to worry about it :).

2. Depending on what time it is, there is Ping Pong by Hurricane Hannah's or you can build sandcastles on the beach. Or if night time, they have movies at the beach or there is always Beaches & Cream.

3. They just haven't learned about all the fun stuff to do as adults. Possible other times to visit would be the Flower & Garden festival in the spring or the Food & Wine fest in the fall.

4. Some people are just like that :)

Hope you have a really great trip! :rotfl:

Well you got your question about the pool situation answered so I thought I might help put more of a positive spin on the situtation with your parents.:goodvibes
Honestly, consider yourself lucky! I would LOVE for my inlaws to come to Disney with us. Not so much to watch the kids (although that would be an added bonus;)), but more to share the experience with their grandchildren. DH and I have asked and offered to bring them with us so many times, but they have absolutely no interest in going. :sad2: Just the fact that your parents are going to be there with their grandkids shows that they love you and their grandchildren more than they dislike Disney. :)
And the good thing about them booking a different resort than where you are staying is that your kids get to enjoy both of them. It's ALL good. :flower3:
