I never want to go back to a value resort again.

Oh my gosh, I don't think I will ever be able to go back to a value resort again. We just got back from our very first stay at a moderate, Port Orleans, Riverside and it was wonderful! It was so beautiful. I was assinged at check-in the one building that I did not request at all, which led me to wonder if they even looked at my request, but was able to be switched to a ground floor room in AB, just what I wanted!:thumbsup2 The pool and slide were great and I just loved the atmosphere there. I really felt spoiled staying there after being at values on the two previous trips. It was a sight to see, compared to the All Stars.

I don't really like any of the value resorts. I know other people love them (especially POP), but they just don't do it for me. I find them cheesy and always feel like I'm a dressed up Motel 6.

Obviously, I'll take a Deluxe any day, and a moderate after that.

BUT... I'll take a Value any day over staying off property. I just don't enjoy it, no matter how nice the property. I like to "stay inside the magic," and don't want to have to deal with the outside hassles like traffic. I'd rather deal with the inside hassles like the bus system! LOL

I totally hear you. While we were dating and engaged, my now-wife and I stayed at POP and ASM a few times each. On our honeymoon, we splurged and went for a CR-MK View room.

There's no way we'll ever be able to go back to the Values.

I have to wonder if they look at requests. But just because you didn't get it, doesn't mean they did or did not. If what you REALLY wanted was ground floor, that should be what you should have said. Probably would have been easier and my bet is the ore flexible you are, the more likely you'll be to get your request. :goodvibes

Side note: not directed at the OP, just general request observation :)
I rarely make any requests anymore. A: we rarely got them anyway (even though we go in "slow" times) and B: we've been pleasantly surprised w/ what we've been given often. I wouldn't doubt that room assigners just get tired of requests and specifically the ones where people have it down to a room number. I don't know how it works but I wouldn't be surprised if in day after day of doing that job, a few might get...oh, lazy.
In the future, if I were to make any requests, I'd pick the aspects of a room that ere MOST important to me (i.e. ground floor or 3rd floor, near the pool, etc.) and leave it at that. That's going to be MY M.O. anyway.
Good luck to the micro-managers! :rotfl:

PS
Haven't ever stayed at a value, have no desire to. Every time you step a little higher on the resort "ladder" you'll find it hard to go back! :) Most do anyway. Disney knows this! Evil Disney! They upgraded us to a lodge concierge room at the GF once and we've been spoiled and ruined ever since. See the DVC pic below? :rotfl: BEWARE of Disney pixie dust! it's EVIL! :)

 You are probably right about stepping up the resort ladder.

Our only "value" experience at WDW was some years ago at All Stars Sports.
We've never stayed at another value. Many people seem to love Pop though:confused3

We spent a week at the Boardwalk for our wedding in a 1-bed villa and have been totally spoiled. Now we want DVC!! Evil pixie-dust indeed:lmao:

We also spent a week at POR and absolutely loved it. We looked at Old Key West today and fell in love with that too, although the Caribbean Beach did nothing for us.

Not being snobby here but we have no interest in the value resorts.

Now, where did I put that DVC form...:goodvibes

I don't think that CBR would do anything for me either, nor POFQ. My husband who I was actually shocked that he had an opinion on, was rather disgusted with the looks of POFQ. The colors of it really threw him off!!

Every trip I have to remind myself multiple times what the price difference means between a value and a mod and a mod and a deluxe. Trust me, if segway and la nouba are important to you, the values start looking a lot more attractive.

I second everything DisCopper stated.

I feel the value resorts are cheesy and tacky.
^but with that said, i would choose to stay on property (no matter what resort on disney) over any outside property. It does take away the "magic"

My bet is 9 out of 10 don't have any natural resistance to the virus initiated by pixie dust upgrades... and to date, there is no known inoculation other than possibly buying DVC. But it's not a preventative inoculation, only a semi-cure. I personally feel Disney is paying to keep research into boosting pixie dust immunities under wraps. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

We have stayed at POFQ and loved it, but we also have enjoyed our stay at POP. We travel with small children so for them to enjoy the resort almost as much as the parks makes the value resort worth it for us, but we will be "moving back up" to the mods whenthey are older.

Glad you enjoyed your stay at the POR.

I don't understand people who say things like this but to each their own.

We spent 6 nights at Pop Century and 9 nights at the Polynesian this past summer after getting engaged the first night and each hotel had it's strengths. For example I thought Captain Cooks was absolutely awful as opposed to Everything Pop. And since we like breakfast at our hotel and a late night snack, that was a big buzzkill at the Poly. The pool was nicer at the Poly but it was FULL and unmoveable once you got in. Of course the monorail access, the beach, the room itself and the atmosphere were all big strengths of the Poly but we are definitely going to do Pop again.

I have close friends who are DVC members, so my very first time at WDW, I stayed at the Beach Club Villas, then Boardwalk and Wilderness Lodge for subsequent trips. That spoiled me right off the bat and staying at Pop last summer for the first time was a big shock! I didn't hate Pop and would stay there again if I had to, but it is definitely difficult to stay at a Value when all you've had are Deluxes prior to that!

Uh-oh...looks like I may be in trouble after my first onsite stay(CR~theme park view)!! Maybe I should start with a value and work my way up instead! LOL

We stayed at the CR and the Poly numerous times before we stayed at the All Star Sports for three nights and really didn't like it at all; we then moved to the Coronado and it has now become home to us (eight stays in our last nine trips). It really comes down to personal preference--a lot of people love the values, as do a lot of people love the moderates and then others who love the deluxes.

I am afraid of trying a value resort! I have done the opposite of most people. We've stayed only deluxe, but this will be our last year at a deluxe resort and we'll have to downgrade next year to a moderate...I hope it won't be too much of a shock to the system!

If they upgrade us on our upcoming trip I'll probably buy DVC while I'm down there. We've been looking for awhile but wanted to stay at one of the resorts before committing. So if anybody at Disney is reading... :rolleyes1. Of course if we stay where we're booked (POR-Riverside) we'll be happy too! But...pixiedust: never hurt either!

To the OP (and others who care): I think it just depends what you want out of your "hotel". When we take the kids it's about the pools and the theming. We like the over-the-top themes of the values since the kids have such a good time. When DW and I go we prefer something a little nicer (mods) but sometimes for short trips where the room is just somewhere to sleep and shower we have gone with values. If you plan on spending more time at the resort I definitely think the mods (and deluxe) are the way to go. If it's just a room the "dressed up Motel 6" works fine for us :thumbsup2

OP, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. We haven't stayed at POR or POFQ yet, and I'm not sure if we ever will (we live in Louisiana and the resort theming just doesn't make us feel like we're really on vacation, aside from the fact that we would be in a hotel).

Each category of hotel has its advantages and disadvantages. On a personal note, we adore Pop Century. That is where we stayed on our first trip so it will always be magical to us, plus we really liked the over-the-top theming. We're planning a trip for December 2010, and we may really be leaning toward Pop again. I'm pretty excited, but I'm glad that Disney has all these choices now.
