Just returned today... quite a few complaints

I think the main reason why you could not find any 2009 ornaments is because sometime after Thanksgiving, (we were there 11-26 to 12-6) ALL 2009 stuff was put on a 50% discount. Shirts, backpacks, ornaments.,etc.

I want to say the 50% off discount started everywhere on Mon Nov 30th or Tues Dec 1st. By the time we left on Dec 6th....all the "good" stuff was gone.

All 2009 items were already 50% off earlier than that - I was there 11/13-16 and bought all my things one day - the very next it was all on sale!!! Last December when I went I was so disappointed that they were out of 2008 photo albums. I had to go on eBay when I got home to find one!

I'm sorry you had such a bad time. I think when things seem wrong to begin with, it can easily put a damper on your whole trip, and it sounds like that is what happened to you.

I read somewhere that Disney has done away with a lot of resort specific merchandise as a way to save money. Cheaper for them to make 1 million mugs with the same saying, instead of a bunch of different logos. I don't like it either.

I do have to stick up for the Sports a bit. The rooms that are located near to the food court are Prefered rooms, and cost $15 a night more than the Standard rooms. You would have had to book into a Prefered room to be close to the food courts. Also, while you can request things like room view or location, they are not guaranteed. I have had horrible luck getting requests met, but you just have to not let it upset you and enjoy your vacation.

Oh I know that... I actually used to work front desk at Coronado Springs, so I know nothing is guaranteed. But it's weird that they ask you for your preferred options when you check in online, and it seems like they didn't even care. But if being near the food court costs more, why was it an option for us to choose from when we checked in online? Maybe it's just something new they need to work the kinks out on.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't like the generic mugs.

sorry your trip was so UN magical :grouphug: this time round.

Hope you have a better one next time.....................:wizard:

Possibly because it's the same question/s for all the Value resorts? Different resorts are laid out differently, so it's more possible to be "near" the food court at Pop than at Movies (for example).

We called front desk several times for a solution, but nothing was ever resolved.
At the Coronado Springs front desk, did you get a lot of direct-from-the-rooms calls? To the best of general knowledge (not to be confused with the lamented Cranium Command's General Knowledge ;)) all calls from the rooms go to a single call center where the CMs answer the phone appropriately. Yes, whoever handled your call should have notified management or security, but as far as we know, your call didn't connect inside the resort.

Yes, I know this. Security or management should have been contacted after the call center received the call. That's the solution we were looking for, but the problem was never resolved.

I just ordered a 2009 ornament from the Disneystore for $1.99 last week. I don't know if they still have any left, but I didn't get one when we were there Thanksgiving and the week after because I had a space issue in our suitcases.

I'm sorry too that you didn't have a good time. I saw that you mentioned you liked POR. I do too and I think POR is so different from the All-Stars that I can understand why you were disappointed.

We went to MVMCP on 12/3 and I was really suprised how many people were there. We enjoyed it, but probably won't be buying tickets again because we can't jusitfy the extra cost.

Better luck next time!

Sorry you're trip was disappointing. I prefer the resort spec. mugs too, but that went away a long time ago. As another post mentioned, maybe the Dixie Landing mug you saw was one of the ones sold as good for life, in which case they were well within their rights to use it.

I had a similar situation at POR last Aug, with children in the room next to us running amuck. Same deal, running up and down, screaming, door slamming. It was awful. I went outside to politely ask them to stop. The mother came back to the room at the same time and saw or heard me. She told me she would speak to them. After that I didn't hear a thing.

It appears Disney is mass producing the same "junk" and putting it in all the stores.

I've been to Disney World more times than I can count, and this is the first time I'm coming back with complaints. ...

We even helped put out a fire near the pool (leaves on a light fixture had gotten hot and started a flame), and we didn't even get a "thank you". ...

I went to WDW this time wanting only one thing to take home... a 2009 ornament. Could not find ONE ornament with the year on it. They had junky 2010 ornaments, but who would be buying one of those NOW? Now you have to buy a plain ornament and pay $3 to have someone paint the year on it.

I really enjoyed MVMCP the last time we went in 2007, but it was just too crowded this time. I doubt I'll do it again.

Cast members seemed more miserable. I found the merchandise to look a lot cheaper now as well.

Oh, and could the quick service restaurants find anything remotely healthy to serve?

I'm sad to say it, but I really didn't enjoy this trip at all.

I've been to Disney World more times than I can count, and this is the first time I'm coming back with complaints.

First, I was sad to see that all of the resorts have the same mug now. I liked having a special mug from my resort with the year on it from prior vacations. I'm still surprised to see people using Dixie Landings mugs... and getting away with it!
This is something that was implemented two years ago (approx.) to cut cost for Disney. It's cheaper for them to mass produce one style. With so many resorts now, this is understandable. I usually buy a magnet from the resort we stay at and put it on my fridge.
I understand Disney is a business, but I thought they were at least putting the year on the mugs so people don't use them for future visits. I usually buy the mug and a resort ornament, but All Star didn't have resort ornaments either.

We stayed at All Star Sports, which was not my choice. We were trying to save money this time, but I think it's the last time I'll stay there. Two out of the three vending machines in my building were broken, and when I went to the front desk to get my money back, I felt like I was getting the third degree. The food court food has significantly gone down the tubes there since they first opened. I wanted some healthy options, but they're much more pricey and very bland.
If you felt that you were being treated rudely by a CM at the front desk, you should have asked for a manager. It's unfortunate that the vending machines were not working, but I'll bet most guests don't use them a lot. The food courts at the All Stars (in my opinion) are there to make large quantities of food for large numbers of guests quickly. Unfortunately, fried, greasy food = quick food. I do recall seeing fruit cups, yogurts and whole pieces of fruit at Pop's food court....I can't believe All Star Sports didn't have any of that.
Oh, they did have fruit and yogurt options, but I believe the yogurt was $5. I chose to bring food from home to eat instead. But All Star used to have pre-made sandwiches and subs, and they were sooo good! Oh, and they took away the Cherry Coke in the soda fountains (something I used to splurge on there).

We even helped put out a fire near the pool (leaves on a light fixture had gotten hot and started a flame), and we didn't even get a "thank you".
Isn't it nice, though, that you did a good deed? Just knowing you helped should be 'thanks' enough.
Knowing the Disney I used to know, a "thank you" should have been given. But yes, we do feel good we did a good deed.

We utilized the new online check-in option and selected 2 options that were important to us- close to food court and on the ground floor. We were far away from the food court and on the third floor.
Being close to the food court is now a room category - preferred - and has to be booked with your initial reservation. If you were unhappy with your room location, you could have asked to be relocated if something else was available.
If it's a room category, why is it an option to choose for online check-in? We didn't know where our rooms were until later in the day after a day in the parks. We just wanted to get showers and head to bed, not go to front desk and complain.

Disney is a business - plain and simple. Paying another $3.00 for 2009 may be worth it to some people to commemorate their trip.
Paying $3.00 on top of a $14.95 ornament just didn't seem justifiable to me. I know $3 isn't a lot, but knowing that Disney had ornaments before with the year on it just made it too transparent that they were searching for new ways to make an extra buck.

Cast members seemed more miserable. I found the merchandise to look a lot cheaper now as well.
CM's are understaffed and tired. Not saying it's an excuse, but with cutbacks, that's what you'll get. I have always found that if I approach a situation in a positive way, I'll get a positive result. I'm sorry you didn't encounter more magical CM's.

CMs have always been overworked, poorly paid, and tired, but this is the first time they've acted more like employees than cast members. I was a cast member, and even on my worst days, I still tried to make the guests smile.

Oh, and could the quick service restaurants find anything remotely healthy to serve? There are a lot of QS places that offer salads, wraps, roasted chicken, fresh veggies, etc. It's not all burgers and hot dogs.
I did try a grilled chicken sandwich, and I only ended up eating the bun because the chicken was so dry and bland.

I'm confused...this second post looks like you answered your original post?

agnes!

We found tons of 2009 ornaments at DHS--the Christmas store. They had 5 or so styles to choose from, all at 50% off. We bought several. This was on 12/11.

I understand your pain. My family stayed at CSR this past June and had the worst time ever. We used the online check in and that was a nightmare. WE checked in and received our KTW and were on our way to Epcot and when we got to the turnstile we were told they did not activate our KTW cards. WE spent the first hour of our vacation at the customer service station at Epcot trying to get this fixed not the way I wanted to start my Disney Vacation. I have never seen so many rides breaking down as we did on our trip. We went to Animal Kingdom and after 20 minutes in line we were told to get out of line the ride was down. Guys I will say no more or I will get depressed again. I wrote to Disney when we got back and after 3 months I received a call and received 7 for day magic your way passes for our trouble. I was trilled with them for understanding the bad time my family had. I am not sure when we are going back the passes are good until 2030 so I have time. I pray Disney can stop all the cutbacks and get back to what made Disney a place we all want it to be. I like all of you spent a lot of money for 7 people on a Disney Vacation and am just so happy Disney tried to make it right..

Yes!! What is up with that!! All I saw were 2010 ornaments and T-shirts too! 'Let's do the time warp again', no it is STILL 2009!

I really hope Disney managers monitor this board, because if the poor service, shoddy merchandise, and the 'whatever, people will still come' attitude continues, then the Disney folks are in for a rude awakening. Yes, you will still get the first timers, but will they get the repeat customer? I have noticed a HUGE decline in just the cleanliness of the parks since my first visit in 1995, and I agree with all the other complaints on this board about CM's, housekeeping, bus transportation, food. I hate to see my favorite place become just another theme park, but from my observations as a new Florida resident and a passholder who is not real happy with the state of the parks, I am really thinking about NOT renewing next year :(

It really seems this way. One of our favorite things to do at WDW is shop. ;) Or it used to be, but we have been increasingly coming away w/ less and less. I was attributing it to just being more picky buyers but I think this trip it primarily seemed to be because very little was any good and there was so much less variety. It was so disappointing. :( Oh well, saves us money I guess and we'll need fewer suitcases.

Yeah, I think the current year merch. goes on sale at least by Nov.. the stuff in mod Nov as people said was already half off. We noticed that too. Since we usually travel in Dec. that often means little if any of the current year's merch. is available. Just know it for future reference and either shop online early or be prepared to be disappointed. :( Yes, it stinks but it's how businesses do things. they need to have it gone by the end of the year because no one will want an '09 anything in 2010.

You would have had to have booked a preferred room. It would not be an option at check-in, unless there was an available upgrade. This is a category available at all of the value and moderate resorts (unless, I'm mistaken).

OP I am sorry that your stay was unmagical. Here's some pixiedust: for your next trip.

Agnes, I thought the same thing at first but then I looked at it again. The OP replied in black under Scanne's purple post. Hope that makes sense. Too much snow here. My brain is frozen.:rotfl:

I agree with you on the decline in cleanliness. But one thing I would add is that part of the blame IMO is the "decline" in the guests as well as Disney services. People nowdays have little or no respect for other peoples' property. Let's just hope they don't treat their own homes the way they behave in Disney parks and resorts. :sad2:

Part of our "Magic" was finding the unique merchandise and food choices in different places around the World. Now it's all the same, no special places or foods anymore. For the first time ever I don't have a trip planned and don't know when or if I will. The bathrooms in the parks are a disgrace. I wipe the counters off myself when I wash my hands but I am only one person! This situation was unimaginable just 10 years ago.

Yeah I know that, but then why was it an option to choose from when we checked in online? They gave a list of things we would prefer to have, and we were allowed to pick 2 preferences. Then if something was an extra cost, why was it an option? Do you get what I'm saying?
