Offsite, shorter distance to Universal?

Hi all,

We've currently got a Kidsuite booked at RPR onsite at Universal. However, there's a good chance dh won't get his bonus this year so I'd like to have a much lower cost backup plan.

At the time of the trip our boys will be 15 and 4. We have to have either 2 connecting rooms or a 2+ bedroom suite or condo (not a 1 br or studio type). We're traveling April 17-24.

We will have weeklong passes to Universal. We weren't planning to get Disney tickets this time. (We took the little one last year.) Also expecting to do some Orlando attractions.

Would really like a nice pool.

Any suggestions? I've seen alot about Windsor Hills but not sure if that's very far from Universal. Would like to keep it around $100 per night (so either 2 inexpensive rooms for $50 each or a 2br suite or condo for $100 per night, although this might not be possible.) Thanks for any input!

Try Vista Cay, built by same builder as Windsor Hills, 3-4 miles from Universal. A great resort with loads of amenities. Go to www.vistacayrent.com and you can see many of the townhomes and condos advertised by individual owners. The resort website is www.vistacay.com and you can find out some information about the resort. Hope that is helpful.

There are also a lot of timeshares you can rent from the owners for $100/day. Windsor Hills would give you about 30-45 minutes of commute time each way, depending on the traffic. I wouldn't recommend looking further west than LBV, that will still give you hundreds of choices.

Take a look at the units at Terra Verde, too.
It is probably closer to Universal than Windsor Hills is.
We used Terra Verde as a base a couple years ago when we did a Universal/SeaWorld trip. Nice pool, lots of space, laundry in unit, etc.

LBV is Lake Buena Vista - the area just outside Downtown Disney. There are a number of timeshares in that area with the best known being the two Cypress Pointe Resorts, Blue Tree and there are another one or two over on Palm Parkway.

From Cypress Pointe you are less than 10 minutes, back road (Palm arkwayt/Turkey Lake Road) from Universal, Sea World and Wet N' Wild. Very close and very easy access (Disney is 1 mile too if you still decided to visit there too).

Try one of the Mariott time shares. We stayed at Mariott Harbour Lake and it was WONDERFUL! They have pirate themed pools and fun games and things during the day. It's just down the street from Sea World which makes it very close to Universal also.

We've also stayed at Vista Cay which was nice but the theming wasnt' there like at Harbour Lake and there was no slide at the pool.

There is a Homewood Suites just across I-4 from Universal that is nice. You get a living room with sofa bed, kitchen with full size refrig, stove, microwave, and a separate bedroom with king or 2 queen beds. You also get free breakfast and a "light evening meal" on weeknights. Right now, the cost is $115/night for your dates of stay.
