Day 18 Part 1
November 1st - Breakfast at Kona and Flying Home
Although we were all happy to be going home, sitting here writing this, I feel a little sad that it's all over. Although it was a tough trip, it's hard thinking about our final day in Disney knowing that we won't be back for quite some time.
We slept in until 10 am but because this morning at 2 AM was the time change (end of Daylight Savings) it was actually only 9am. This gave me extra time to organize and do our final packing job. I barely fit everything into our suitcases!
Kira was full of P & V when she woke up this morning. She was completely full of sass and attitude and I don't think it ended until we got home.
I had called Disney Dining and made a ressie for all of us at Kona Cafe for 11 am and had cancelled our breakfast at Chef Mickeys. There was no way I was going back there again
We packed up, bid a sad farewell to BLT and drove over to the Polynesian. We got there early so we just wandered around a little bit.
Kira was really into doing the pressed pennies with her Dad this trip
After meeting up with S & B, B & G, we were seated for breakkie. Once again, we were right next to the lobby area...oh well whatever.
We all ordered the Big Kahuna and they ordered 2 pressed pots of coffee to share.
This time I got scrambled eggs and they forgot to put the pineapple macadamia nut butter on the side. I don't often order scrambled eggs at a sit down restaurant because I never know how the eggs will come out. I only like them when they are moist. Not runny, but not dry.
Well, they were AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything was absolutely delicious once again and I was so glad we decided to eat here again!
Kira was acting up quite a bit. Once she finished eating, she was either climbing the railings or was under the table.
She was almost uncontrollable. Whatever we threatened her with, she really didn't care and just did whatever she wanted. And she was like that ALL day
After breakfast we stopped for a quick bathroom break before leaving the resort.
I was a little confused here, do I flush or do I wait for it to flush by itself?
We got to the parking lot and said good-bye to our awesome travel mates for the past 2 weeks. They really made this trip fun for us and I am glad we got to be with them while they experienced their first cruise.
They made us laugh a lot and we made them feel super glad that they didn't have any toddler's of their own
.
Sassy even on the way to the airport....yes...those are her socks on her hands!
We dropped off the van at Avis and grabbed a cart for all our crap.
Checked in with United, got charged an arm and a leg for 4 suitcases and made our way through security to our gate.
Tried to keep Kira occupied until our flight left. It was a difficult task considering just how much energy she had that morning!
Ever feel like a jungle gym??? Well, we both did that morning!
Yay! Finally time to board!!!!
About an hour and a half into the flight, the BEST thing
ever happened........
..
She fell asleep!!!!
It was only for an hour but it was a wonderful, blissful, peaceful, (and many other words that end in "ful") hour!!!
We had a 1.5 hour layover in Denver so once again we made a stop at Wolfgang Puck's for lunch.
It was very delicious and it filled us up. We grabbed some snacks and reading material from a news store and then made our way to our final gate.
The flight back to Calgary was much harder than the flight to Denver. Kira was tired but refused to sleep, she didn't want to be in the buckle anymore and for the first time, she had a bowel movement on the plane, which really sucked because there were no change tables in any of the lavatories.
The flight attendant was nice and made some room for Rob to change her on the floor near the back of the plane. He had to do this twice, so it was kind of awkward and inconvenient but what can you do?
She filled her diaper again just before we landed so we just changed that last diaper in our seats. I'm pretty good at changing her in weird and challenging places so it was quick and convenient! I also changed her into warmer clothes, more suitable for Calgary weather.
Rob's dad picked us up at the airport and drove us home. As we were on our way home, we realized that we didn't have a key to our house. I thought Rob had one on his key chain but I was wrong. I had to call my brother, who still had our car keys from when he drove us to the airport, and thankfully he came and met us at the house.
We put Kira right to bed and then dragged our stuff in and I unpacked the necessary items and then we CRASHED!!!!!!!!!!!
We were all so happy to be home and our dogs were ridiculously happy to see us!
THE END
I will do a Final Thoughts Post when I am feeling better and then I will also write a brief dining report with all my food pics
Just want to say thanks to all of you who joined us on this crazy and wonderful journey. I appreciate your comments and views and sticking with us through the good times and the bad!
