Awww, Cass, both you and little Kira looked so pitiful. I hate to hear that neither of you felt well. You could tell by her little eyes in the one picture that she just wasn't feeling it. I so hate that the three of you had such a terrible time with sickness on this cruise. I sure hope things turned around before the end of the cruise, because I know you guys deserved a heck of a lot better time than you were having.

Yeah, I hate shelling out thousands of dollars so we can stay in bed all day. I know a lot of people say that they'd rather be in Disney and be sick than be at home and sick but I doubt many of them have been to Disney while being really sick. :sad2:
 
Day 15 Part 1

October 29th - At Sea



We woke up this morning and Kira still had a little bit of a fever. She crawled into bed with me while Rob was showering. I still felt she was OK and that she just needed some extra rest and TLC. We tried taking her temperature with the ear thermometer but it just wouldn't work. We have one of these at home and Kira hates it. So after 4 tries and her completely flipping out, we gave up. It was hurting her ears so we didn't try again.

Guys don't understand this but as a mom, I just knew she was OK, and not in any danger. I've felt her with a much higher fever than this.

Rob went to return the thermometer while we snuggled and when he came back he was all flustered. He told me that they wanted to see Kira right now. He said they were concerned because she had ear pain.

Ummm. Her ears hurt because we kept jabbing that thermometer in there to get a temperature. They didn't hurt before we did that.

We had a long drawn out discussion about it but Rob was just not budging at all.

I told him that it was going to be expensive and despite having bought medical insurance from our bank before leaving home, it might not be reimbursed because you need to contact them before you seek medical attention.

He didn't care. He took Kira and left for the medical centre on deck 1.

I hadn't showered yet and I looked like the living dead so I hopped in the shower and joined them as soon as I could.

I got down there and they were waiting in the reception area for some medicine. Kira was jumping on and off the couch and running everywhere (not the look of an extremely sick child).

So I asked Rob what was going on and he said "H1N1" with a big smile on his face, as if to rub it into my face that he was right and I was wrong. :snooty:

He said that we were all going to be given Tamiflu and they were just waiting for it now.

I wanted to speak directly to the Doctor so after about 5 minutes he came out and I asked him exactly what was going on.

Now, I am sure Rob will chime in here because what he heard from the doctor during this conversation is completely different from what I heard. I guess there are two sides to every story so I will let him tell you his story if he wants to.

All I can tell you is what I heard from the doctor and this is what he told me.

He said that it seems like she has the flu. He said that there is no way on board to test for H1N1 but because it is the most common flu these days that they are going to treat it as H1N1. He said that the Tamiflu is given to patients to treat all kinds of flu (not just H1N1) so he was going to give her 5 days worth for her and because we live together, we also were given 3 days worth so that it's not passed around.

I asked him, in his medical opinion, if he thought she did, indeed, have H1N1. At this point he looks down at Kira who is practically climbing up Rob's leg. He grins and says that she seems fine, she's acting normal and that he's not worried.

So we pay the nearly $400 bill and go back to the room. :sad2:

We weren't quarantined in any shape or form, in fact, the doctor never even told us to stay in the room or to stay away from people. The only thing he wrote was that Kira couldn't go into the kids clubs, which was totally understandable.

Other than feeling really sleepy, extra cranky and moody, she was still our little Kira.

Rob seemed to be doing much better by now and I was doing a little better too. I was tired and achy and by lungs were burning but I was trying to have a positive attitude and enjoy the rest of the cruise as best as I could.

Rob and Kira stayed in the room while I met up with some BOBers for our BOB lunch at Lumieres.

I wasn't sure if I should go to the meet being sick and all but I figured as long as I didn't hug anyone and that I stuck around Bernie and Sean and Nancy and Chuck (whom I've been around this entire cruise anyway) that it would be OK.

Plus I was rather sick of eating chicken strips for lunch by now :rolleyes: and I've heard that they made a good burger at Lumieres using normal white buns!!! :cool1:

There ended up being 5 tables of BOBers I think and although I didn't socialize as much as I would have liked, it was nice to see everyone. Up to that point, I hadn't seen many BOBers this cruise, having missed the first meet and being with Kira 95% of the time in kids clubs or toddler areas. There were still BOBers I haven't even met or seen yet!

*I just reread my second day at sea and realized that I totally forgot to mention that I did get to meet up with some other BOBers at the Smoothie Meet. There was a BOB Meet inside Cove Cafe at 3pm on our second sea day. There was some confusion because there ended up being 2 Smoothie Meets, one was much earlier and it was outside near the adult pool. Not sure if that was intended to be a more private meet because I didn't get an invite but I did manage to get to the official meet, albeit a little late.

We had a fabulous time seeing some old and new faces and while it would have been much better if we were in a bigger location, it was still really fun to chat with everyone!*

Lunch was pretty good! It was nice to have a nice soft white bun again! The fries were excellent, I wish I had gotten more than 8 of them! :rolleyes:

After lunch it was time for the BOBer group photo in the Atrium.

I went back to see if Rob and Kira were up and wanting to join me for the photo op.

The guy who was running the auction, which was to be taking place a little later on, was kind enough to take many, many photos of us.

Day 15 Part 2

October 29th - At Sea


After lunch we just camped out in the room. Got some room service for Rob and Kira and just watched Disney Movies until it was supper time.

We waited until almost sunset and then watched the sun go down as we walked all the way forward.

We figured since we were all sick and Kira couldn't go to Flounders that we would have supper at Topsiders. I've heard good things about eating dinner up there so we decided to try that.

From what I read about Topsiders, the food was basically the same as what was being served in the dining rooms and that there was a buffet where you could go and grab your appetizers and desserts.

We thought it would be great for us because we have Kira with us, it would be fast and easy and it wasn't chicken strips or hot dog wieners!

Boy was I wrong about all of it!!!


We were seated and given menus. It was 10 minutes before our waiter showed up and took our orders. There was no buffet at all and there were only 3 choices of each, appetizer, entree and dessert. Only one thing appealed to me on the menu and it was an entree. I ordered the porterhouse steak and Rob ordered 2 appetizers and 1 entree and we ordered Kira the only available kid entree, chicken nuggets. :crazy2:

It took another 10 minutes to get some drinks and bread and already Kira was bored and was acting up.

So we waited and waited and waited for our food. Rob got his 2 appetizers and then we waited and waited some more.


She just wanted to snuggle with her daddy while we waited.

At this point I was getting grumpy and I felt bad for Kira and wished we had just gone to Plutos for some tenders and wieners. At least she would have been fed right away so that we could go back to the room and rest.


It took FOREVER to get our food!! It was exactly one hour from the time we were seated until Kira and I got any food. :mad:

And then when we did get the food it was terrible!! I took ONE bite of everything on my plate (it was all gross!) and then grabbed Kira and told Rob that we would meet him back in the room when he was done supper. Kira wouldn't even touch hers :sad2:

Rob finished really fast and met us at the elevator. I think we grabbed some fruit from Goofy's Galley and we snacked in the room.

As we were camped out in our room, Flounders called. I had called them this morning and explained to them that Kira was sick and that we had to cancel all remaining Flounders time for Kira.

They were concerned and just wanted to check on her. They said that they were going to send her a care package and 10 minutes later it arrived!

I was so impressed with Flounders! They sent her a little note, with a photo of her and Minnie (the one I already posted) and a whole bag of toys and stuff!!

It was all brand new stuff! I assumed that we were to return it all when we were done but Rob called Flounders the next day and they told us that it was for Kira to keep and take home with her!

Wow!

I had wanted to see Disney Dreams that night but Kira was tired so we just hung out in the room until it was time for her to go to sleep.

Rob worked on the laptop for bit while I met up with S, B, B & G at Quiet Cove Pool. Because I was there early, we had plenty of time to enjoy the hot tub and pool! I'm glad I went because it turned out to be the last time I would get to do it.

It was that evening that I started coughing. My lungs were still burning and it was painful to cough so I did what I could to suppress it as much as possible.

Back to the room and straight into bed!


And just so you know, just this past Friday we got a cheque from our bank that covered almost all of that medical bill! :thumbsup2

I thought Topsiders would be a buffet in the evening as well. :scared1: If you wanted a sit down dinner you would have went to your dining rotation! The night we didn't do dinner we had just ordered room service because one of our party had issues with buffets. :confused3

I am glad that Flounders gave Kira a little Disney Magic!

What I thought was strange was seeing the Captain (and his "date") at Topsiders that night too. Hmmmmm, wasn't that the night of the Captain's Gala? :confused3

Loved your pictures of the sunset too. We have the same one's from the other end of the ship instead. :goodvibes We had a little pity party back there with Joanne, Nancy K, Dan, Mike, Robin, Tony and Stacy. We took a few shots of the beautiful sunset and a couple of some sad faces knowing that our cruise was coming to an end soon.

I really, really don't like Topsiders for dinner also. We went once during a repo to give it a shot and the steak was terrible. I didn't even get one at first. The server brought dinner for everyone at the table but me and it didn't seem weird to him?? By the time they cooked my steak everyone else gave up on theres and were ready to leave. There was a salad bar available then but it was tiny and most everything needed to be refilled so didn't get to try it.

Our last cruise we went back because an officer asked us and that is were they dine when with guest, which is why you see so many white jacket and performers. Even with a high ranking officer service wasn't very good. They train servers there before they hit the main dining rooms so I guess it makes sense.

I think it is too formal there at night. It's a shame they have that in the dining rooms and Palo already. I would love the option of a buffet to go get a quick hot meal when you don't feel like a sit down or pizza, hot dog, chicken finger, room service meal.

I hope how hard this trip was for all of you doesn't stop your trips to DCL and Disney. Thank you so much for taking the time to write these reports. I love the way you make everyone feel as we were along on the trip with you.

Yeah, I know eh! I really didn't think we would get it back. On Friday when we picked up the mail, we saw the envelope and I didn't realize what it was and Rob said it's our Rejection Letter :lmao:

Yeah, I was not happy about it! And you're right, if I wanted to wait that long for my food, we would have gotten dressed and went down to the restaurant with our fabulous servers and at least had good service!

We had thought of room service too but we had ordered it 4 times now and it wasn't very good. I really wish they had a Deli on board that you could get some nice fresh sandwiches! ::yes::

Thanks Heather! Yeah I was surprised and delighted! They must have certain exceptions for people on a cruise who can't really make that call first, or don't want to pay the $8/minute to make it! :rolleyes:

I had no idea the buffet was like that! I thought I had read that they only take your order for the entree and then there's a buffet of appy's and desserts that you could help yourself to. :confused3

And no, it would not keep me from cruising again. It wasn't DCL's fault we got sick and I still love DCL, even with it's faults.

We did decide to do Alaska in 2011 and to leave Kira at home because there isn't much for her to do in Alaska and we thought it would be a nice little break for Rob and I ;)

When we cruise again with her, it will be on the Dream or the Fantasy and she will be at a much better age with much fewer meltdowns (we hope :rolleyes1)
 
I really think if the med office believed that Kira had H1N1, they would have quarrentined at least her, if not all of you. I think that they just gave you the meds to be on the safe side. And what a magical moment to get all the goodies!

I completely agree with you ::yes:: None of us were throwing up or had GI problems of any kind but you would think that if he was really concerned with us having H1N1, they wouldn't let us roam the ship. :confused3
 
Day 16 Part 1

October 30th - Castaway Cay


The final day of our cruise. I was sad because it was almost over and I felt like it never really began. It felt as if this whole week was a dream and I am going to wake up at the Renaissance and everyone will be healthy and happy and we will be boarding the Magic!

But the reality was that we were having a crappy cruise and I couldn't wait for it to be over!

We had some great moments but for the most part it was a stressful, rough week for all three of us and I couldn't wait to go back home.

We woke up, got showered and then grabbed some breakfast at Topsiders. Back to the room to get changed and sunscreened and then we made our way down to deck 1 to leave the ship.

As we walked off the ship, the sky was dark and gloomy and I was hoping this meant rain but it was sunny with some clouds for the rest of the day, no rain :sad1:

We saw Chip and Dale at the post office and we asked Kira if she wanted to wait in line to see them and she said yes so we waited about 10 minutes for them.

She hugged both of them, it was so cute!

We had just missed the tram so we just walked down to the family beach.

There was a lot of construction going on around the island, Disney was definitely preparing for the Dream and Fantasy!

What is up with large groups of people who need to walk beside each other and block the entire path for everyone else??? :confused3

This happened a lot to us in WDW and it drove me crazy!!!

These people were as slow as molasses and even when I said "Excuse me" they still didn't move over :mad:

We told B & S that we would meet up with them at the very far end of the family beach, where it is much less crowded.

We found them sitting in loungers in the water! They looked really comfy!! :goodvibes

We busted out all of the sand toys and Kira, Rob and Bailey made sand castles!

Kira was really happy and seemed to be feeling pretty good. :thumbsup2

I needed to be in the water to cool off! The water wasn't as cold as it has been during past October visits.

I chatted with some BOBers for awhile, which was nice because I didn't get to see them during the week.

Kira was doing well and was getting brave about being in the water. She liked this beach much better than Divi because there were no waves.

She even went in by herself to visit Auntie Bernie

I stayed in the water as much as possible because it was so hot but I kept getting bit by something. After being in the water for about an hour, I had all these little "stings" all over my legs. There was nothing visible but they stung and they were driving me crazy so I had to get out for awhile.

Bernie and family left to go eat and Kira was getting hungry so I told Rob to go with them and I would watch all our stuff and then I would join them when someone comes back.

It was awhile before anyone came back but Bernie didn't know that Rob and Kira went too so I guess they didn't all sit together.

I went to find Rob and Kira and I guess Kira was cranky because Rob was stressed!

I went to grab some food and then we saw Gary who joined us for lunch, which made Kira happy! :goodvibes

This was the first time I didn't enjoy my food from Cookies. I think it had a lot to do with the yucky WW bun on my burger. I hardly touched my food!

Back to the beach to let Kira play some more. We were going to just stay for about an hour but I think we ended up staying over 2 hours.

We looked in the store but there wasn't much there. Rob found one shirt he liked but they only had one size left and it was small. I looked around too and found a couple things I would have bought but they were out of all the sizes. They really need to get more stock!

We walked back to the tram stop and waited about 10 minutes for it to come.

We didn't think we would stay on the beach for that long and Kira missed her nap. She had done really well all day but now was at the end of her rope.

So sorry about the illness's on your cruise! So disappointing! Hopefully you can have a redo!

Day 16 Part 2

October 30th - Castaway Cay


Back on board, we all had showers and then Rob and Kira chilled while I got some stuff packed.

This would be a good time to talk about those horrible showers!!!

Well, the shower is fine, a little short (I don't know how tall people shower in these!) but the shower curtain is death incarnate!!!!!! :mad:

As soon as you get into the shower, the shower curtain gets sucked onto your skin! It clings to your naked wet body and no matter what you try to do to peel it off, it just comes right back!!! :headache:

Ever try to shower while a sheet is blowing on you?? It's damn near impossible!!!!!!! I would push it away gently as far as I could and then let go and it would blow right back on me!!!

Rob was laughing at me because all he could hear during all my showers was banging and cursing and groaning and yelling and screaming!

:rolleyes:

I was not laughing though!

Not even a little bit!

It was stressful that I would wake up every morning and try to convince myself that I REALLY didn't need a shower that day :rolleyes1

By the time my shower was over, I felt like a crazy person! After my shower, I totally understood what it means when people went "postal" because I was THIS close to destroying that shower curtain and going postal myself!!!

Before I set foot on the Wonder in 2011, I am going to have to figure out a way to keep that shower curtain off of me or I WILL go mad!!! :eek:

While I was packing, Kira's pillow case arrived!

I forgot to mention that on the first day of the cruise while Rob and Kira were napping, I dropped off that fantastic pillow case that Nancy & Chuck gave Kira at Guest Services to get it signed by all the characters.

I totally had a brain fart when I dropped it off though because I only gave them the black Sharpie, even though Nancy had also included coloured Sharpies in our goodie bag, for some silly reason I never brought them down with me. So while the pillow case turned out great and Kira LOVED it, it would have been much prettier in colour!!

We went to see the Farewell Show and then it was almost time for dinner!

There was no way we were going to go back to Topsiders so we just decided to go to our rotation dinner.

It would be the only night Kira joined us for supper in the rotation restaurants. We were in Animator's Palate that night which was good because she enjoyed seeing all the characters on the walls.

She was there 2 minutes and already had attitude :rolleyes1

Because Kira needed to be on the end, we sat next to her and it was almost impossible to hear what anyone was saying. The only person I could hear was Nancy, who was sitting next to me. Unfortunately Nancy was starting to get sick too. After being back home and talking to her doctor, she figures she probably picked it up at WDW, the day before she got on the ship so I was so relieved to hear that we didn't make her sick!!

We ordered the Mac and Cheese for Kira which she liked. Of course, she has to do things the Kira way, so here she is eating her mac and cheese with our butter knife. :rolleyes:

She actually did really well and ate it better than she would have with a spoon! :lmao: I was impressed! And she was cranky pants so hey, anything to keep her happy and quiet, right ;)

The servers did the parade thing around the restaurant at the end and we cheered for our team. Cindy even came to give Kira a kiss. I told her that she was sick but she didn't care!

We also celebrated Nancy & Chuck's anniversary with a big cake that I guess Tony and Stacy had asked for. It was a good night, despite being sick and one third of our table feeling like crap! :rolleyes1

When Kira was finished eating her supper, we let her out of the high chair and she kept going to visit Gary...it was hilarious!!! The scary bearded man from day 1 was now her pal and partner in crime.

And Gary would be proud because a couple of days after we got home, Rob got a little treat for Kira and put it in his hand closed his hands and held them out for her to pick a hand and she "bumped" it :lmao:

We said farewell to our servers, gave them their tips and headed out of the restaurant.

Back to the room and I finished packing. We put our suitcases out and put Kira to bed. Rob left to go somewhere but I can't remember where? I think he went to Treasure Catch to get me some cough syrup. :hug:

I was all prepared to fill out the comment card but I was just too tired and felt too crappy so I just crashed. Took some medicine when Rob got back and then we both went to sleep.

Tomorrow would be an early and very very looooong day!

What is up with large groups of people who need to walk beside each other and block the entire path for everyone else??? :confused3

This happened a lot to us in WDW and it drove me crazy!!!

That's what we hate about Animal Kingdom.

We looked in the store but there wasn't much there. Rob found one shirt he liked but they only had one size left and it was small. I looked around too and found a couple things I would have bought but they were out of all the sizes. They really need to get more stock!

Disney are opening another store next year, so more choices.
