What Disney Tip Are you really glad you listened to?

"We almost always rent a car for our trips. Since we go to different parks each day and often leave and come back, it is easy to get confused about which area the car is parked. We discovered that almost all cell phones have some sort of voice or memo recorder built in. We simply turn the recorder on and say the name and row number we parked in. As we leave, we erase the memo. Now we're ready for the next park. No more lost cars!"

I try to remember to snap a photo of the parking lot row painted on the pavememnt on my phone, too. When I am too excited to remember to do either, the parking CM's actually write down the time that each section was parked so they can at least get you to the right section! I learned that during a webinar by Disney! And for those of us who are, er, memory impared , I snap a photo of the rental car and license plate so I'll recognize the car when I see it!

probably mentioned before but bringing a vinyl table cloth with clothespins came in handy several times. We used it to cover the strollers when raining and used to sit on the ground while waiting for the parade. Clothespins also came in handy with closing half eaten food bags. Before we left my family thought I was nuts to pack those two items but I did hear muffled praises when we used them!

My daughter's getting braces 3 weeks before our trip - yikes. Is there an Orthodontist on call for emergencies? This is our first time with braces so we don't know what to expect.

As someone who wore braces for six-seven years, as long as you stay away from really sticky foods and any other of the foods the orthodontist said not to eat, you shouldn't have any problems... that being said, you can probably ask your own orthodontist to reccommend another doctor in the Orlando area!

I have an orthodontic consulting company so this one I can answer. Depends on what appliance she has (i.e., braces, expander, etc.) but in general bring lots of wax and don't forget any special toothbrushes, etc. Thankfully, by 3 weeks post-banding/bonding her teeth should no longer be sore but bring ibuprofen just in case and any Orajel type stuff for potential mouth sores your orthodontist may give you samples of. Your orthodontist will probably also give you instructions for what to do in an emergency--take them with you. Instructions are typically focused on making your child comfortable and won't need to involve an orthodontist until you return home. Tell your orthodontist you're going on vacation and your concerns. If you have any "real" emergency, my suggestion would be to call your orthodontist and explain the problem. The doctor or assistants can either talk you through temporarily fixing it yourself or refer you to an orthodontist in Orlando.

Don't worry, chances are everything will be fine. I'm so glad you have a 3-week window before leaving. Most bond failures occur within the first day or two. You probably won't have any problems. (Just make sure she follows the rules about not biting into anything hard, etc.) I've had three kids (and myself) in some stage of braces for about six years now and, knock on wood, we've never had a problem.

Here's a funny story for you, though. DD, age 17, is being retreated with braces right now because of a tongue thrust she developed over the past couple of years. She had both upper and lower braces placed right before our August Disney trip. She complained and complained about how much it hurt, how she hated braces, how she wished she hadn't decided to get them right before our trip, etc. I finally told her to just shut up, I was tired of hearing her complain and we would have them removed as soon as we returned home. I knew she wouldn't let that happen, our orthodontist is a close family friend and she would never do that to her, plus she also really wanted her bite fixed. She just wanted to gripe. So she "hmphd" away, got a piece of paper out and wrote down all the reasons she hated braces. She then put it on the nightstand in the hotel and said, "ok, I feel better now." And she didn't complain the rest of the trip.

OMG this happened to us two years ago!!!

I called her orthodontist and he gave me the names of three people who did that particular style of braces (I guess there are several types) and I called them all and one of them was willing to squeeze us in the next day. We had a rental car, and they were in Kissimmee and not too hard to find, so I left the oldest in the magic kingdom with the youngest and took the middle kid to the orthodontist!

They were very nice. I don't remember the name. They didn't even charge me, but said that they hoped that other orthodontists would do the same thing for their patients if the need arose.

It was the second day of a two week vacation, and the piece that fell off was a separator (I don't know what it's really called, but it's a hunk of build-up material on the biting surface that kept her teeth from closing too far) on her back molar and without it, every time she bit she was in danger of her lower front braces chipping her upper front tooth, so we couldn't really wait without potential damage. But depending upon what breaks, you might even be able just to wait until you get home.

I was glad I knew her Dr.'s phone number. You might want to bring yours.

Most orthodontists will perform emergency procedures like this at no charge, especially if referred by your own orthodontist. When our patients are on vacation and call us with a problem, we find an orthodontist in the surrounding area that does work with the same bracket system (yes, there are different ones) and place a call to the other orthodontist's office ourselves, asking them to see our patient. Never, never, never been a problem.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but the dollar tree store has "magic wand" glow sticks!! They are really cute sticks with a star on the end.I stock up on them!! It has saved me a ton of money.

If you are flying in and want to save serious cash by getting groceries, go ahead and take the Magical Express for the airport then use wegoshop (they have a website) to get your groceries delivered to you! I used them last time and they were wonderful. For a small fee, plus tip, you email them a list of items you want, the store you want them to get it from and they will set up a time to deliver it to your room! We love this service and they shopped perfectly for us. Try them out!

This tip may be a little TMI, but after being in the Florida humidity all day, we like to go back to the room and shower and change before dinner. The tip is, bring extra underwear. I had plenty of clothes, but I ended up doing laundry just to have clean undies.

My point is, I didn't realize that I would want to shower and get some of the humidity (sweat) off me, so if you are that type of person. Pack accordingly!

I LOVE wegoshop.com as I can look over the store sale flyers and make up my grocery list accordingly. I'd much rather sit at the pool and wait for the call that the groceries are on the way than schlep to an unfamiliar store and try to find what I want! WeGoShop rocks!!!
