Has anyone stayed down at the Keys?

I am thinking of spending a few nights down there in 2011. I was looking for hotel suggestions, what area do you prefer - key west, key largo etc, what are the must do's etc.

Thanks in advance.

What's this??? What's this??? Are you trying to escape my clutches, Ms Pinky????
:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

We visited Key West on the DCL Western Caribbean cruise in 2007 and I didn't like it that much TBH BUT I know some people went here for the day and said it was fab... :goodvibes

We visited several years ago but were not all that keen on Key West itself.
Partly due to problems with the room at the Southermost Hotel where we stayed, but didn't feel 'comfortable' at KW at all.
The nicest part was the drive there & back from Miami.

Bahia Honda is a nice place to stop off for a break, didn't do an overnight stay anywhere though on our way.

Thanks Johnny. I'm not sure yet what we will do but may stay in Miami and just drive down for a visit to the Keys as I can't seem to find any resorts that look overly appealing.

Will have a look at Bahia Honda. :thumbsup2

We stayed at the Banyan for 3 nights and it was a small if unusual hotel. No problem recommending it. Very central to all activities in Key West. Had a fun time down there - great shops, Hemingways house, sloppy joes etc etc

We've visited Key West twice, most recently in April this year for five nights. I love it there, although we don't stay too out late in the evenings when we've got the kids with us lol! We stayed in Santa Maria Suites on Simonton Street, very close to the southernmost point. The hotel is expensive but luxurious, worth every penny!

Thanks for that, it looks nice so I will add it to my list. :thumbsup2

Hiya
DH and i had a few wonderful days in the Keys in 2004, When we were in Key Largo we stopped at the Sheraton Beach Resort (think it was called the Westin Beach Resort then) and it was stunning, it looked right onto the Gulf of Mexico, and served delicious Margharita's,
I would say the keys are well worth a visit, we are planning on going back in2011, they are ideal for a few days away from the hustle and bustle of "real" America.

The Sheraton resort in Key Largo is excellent. Great location and the sunsets from the dock are beautiful. We also stayed at a best Western close to the southernmost point in Key West and had a great time. Key West is a cool place.

Hi my sister and family stayed at a place called Tranquility Bay at Marathon Key and descibed it like Heaven on Earth, I have attached the pic for you to see, they stayed in a 3 bedroom house, right on the beach. It was expensive, call them for prices, but worth every penny according to her!
She said there was also a lovely place on duck key called hawks cay, google it!
Hope this helps!

We've been 3 times to Key West and really like it.

The first was on a cruise, we liked it so much we've stayed there twice for 4 days at a time. We usually stay at Island City House, it's fairly central so walkable to most places you want to go.

We have taken our daughter when she was 1 and also 3 so we don't stay out too late, or both too much with Duval Street.

We have found that you get a different impression of key west when you stay at the weekend or when cruise ships are in port, the town becomes very busy and Duval Street is a nightmare.

Thank you all for the info & lovely photos.

I don't think I will be planning anything until early next year as we won't be going until Jan 2011 so will keep all your suggestions for then.
