The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Good morning everyone, we are having a beautiful fall day here. This fall has really been great weather, it's making up for the awful summer!

Thank you all for the kind thoughts on my gram. We are all doing pretty well, but I still have my moments. Granted, it's only been a week so there is plenty of time for it to really kick in. I'm just really comforted by the way it happened. She had a nice scallop dinner, then had difficulty breathing. The emt's gave her oxygen and she was feeling fine, but the took her to the hospital anyway. On the way her heart just stopped, nothing painful, it just stopped working. I'm just glad she had over 90 very healthy years.

On a brighter note, Becky/Laura- My parents wanted to go to Canada for lunch one day, but there was no room. The person making reservations just added a child to there reservation. It turns out there was no reservations for two people, but there were for three. When they got there they just said it would be the two of them. Maybe you can try adding an extra one or two "people" to the reservation and see what happens.

Laura- The ice cream fundraisers are my favorite! They did have a fall festival last week and they had a raw bar, I thought that was pretty neat.

Lauren- Glad Riley is well enough to get a bath. Ours just got one and the house is so much quieter with his nails clipped.

Kathy- Hope today is a better day.

Sheryl- Alexis' must have been so proud to show off her fake grandparents. Glad you hair story wasn't worse, I'm sure you all got a few good laughs out of it.

Nancy- Good luck to Marisa today.

Ann- I'm sorry Ron's job isn't going as well as you hoped.

I know I missed many of you, sorry. Have a great day everyone, off to figure out what's for dinner.

Becky & Laura, I thought the same thing Nancy posted about CG. I wouldnt even try anymore. I would just show up and mention the situation to them at the podium and be sure Liam and Caili are by your side!;) That man deserves a window table as far as I am concerned. Order a Welcome Home Dad dessert for the table!!!!

Thanks! I am hoping that we don't have to do that though. The last time we ate there the manager came over at the end of our meal and gave me a business card with a direct number to call if we were ever coming back...at the time I thought it was just a fake goodwill gesture thing but I am starting to dig through my old receipts and stuff to see if I still have it. I just don't want it to be a stressful situation when we get there. Greg only gets to join us for a couple of days and I want it to be fun and easy! This is the only piece left to get settled.

Nancy, I'll be thinking of Buddy and Marisa today, hope everything goes well for both of them.

Kathy, feel better soon!

The brasied pork chop recipe was really easy. Here it is...

2-4 pork loin chops, about 1" thick, dredged in flour and seasoned with salt and pepper
1 tbsp. butter
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
8 cloves garlic, peeled and left whole
1 28 ounce can diced tomatoes with their juices
salt and pepper to taste
basil for garnish

Heat the butter and oil in a heavy pan that has a lid over medium-high heat. Add the pork and garlic cloves (I also added some fully cooked chicken sausage here--the roasted garlic al fresco brand). Sear the pork until well browned on both sides--about 2 minutes/side.

Add the tomatoes and their juices, and salt and pepper to taste, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to very low and cover, leaving the lid slightly ajar. Braise, turning once or twice, until the pork is tender and cooked to your liking. I let mine cook for an hour. Check for seasoning and garnish with basil.

I think adding some chopped onions to the pan at the beginning of the recipe would be really tasty too.

Hi Everyone! Nan said she let everyone know about my surgery so I wanted to thank everyone for the well wishes. I am nervous about today :sad1: I am more worried about the nausea after surgery more than any pain that might come afterwards.

Nan will check in when I get home and let you know how it went!!!

BYE!

It's disgusting. And not only do they serve bugs, but the tables have glass lids with bugs crawling around IN the table under your plate. :scared:

What game? I couldn't believe how many teams lost in the final seconds yesterday after the other team came from behind.
 on the bugs. That is completely disgusting.

Don't remind me about the game...I can't believe I stayed up to watch the miserable end. :headache:

Thanks, Robin. The whole restaurant is booked solid right now. The CM even tried to book a table for 2 in addition to the one we have, but there was nothing available. We'll keep trying.

I was touched by your story about your gram. She had such a peaceful end.

Good luck today, Marisa!

Today is our busy day, so dinner is takeout.

Kathy, Maria , Loreli, I hope you all are feeling better today.

Ya know they debated long and hard about those tables. I'm glad to see they actually did them. I haven't been yet, but will get there at some point.

Good Morning! Bringing Riley for a much needed grooming this morning...BBL. Have a great day all! Dinner will be chicken ala king...never made it last nite. parboiled the chicken too long.

My two need baths desperately. That's the first thing on my list for Saturday. Smudge needs to be shaved and I'll try to get that done before I take them for baths.

She is due in April. They are not going to find out this time although Marisa has instructed them to have the Dr seal the answer in an envelope that is to be handed to her. After all, it is all about Marisa :rotfl2:

:rotfl::lmao:

The kids' school was having a fundraiser at a local ice cream shop, so we just got pizza after skating so we could go get some ice cream before they closed.

Now, me, I'd would of had the ice cream for dinner!!

Morning Y'all,

It's finally chilly here, highs in the 50's today! It's nice.

I have a killer headache this morning, don't know why.

I sure missed a few things on here!

Nancy, Prayers for Marisa & Buddy today! :flower3: I didn't even realize Marisa surgery was this week! :upsidedow And I don't think I even knew that Welby is pregnant! I'm sorry I feel like a rotten friend. :sad1:

Marisa, hugs & prayers!

Robin, I'm glad your DD handle the funeral well.

Kathy, I'm so sorry you're still feeling sick & that your blue. Please call me if you need to talk. I Love you my friend!:flower3:

Maria & Loreli, I hope you two start feeling better!:flower3::hug:

I don't need to cook today, I have lots of black beans leftover. They turned out really yummy, DH was a happy man last night!

Morning All,

Prayers to Marisa, Buddy & Nancy......

Ann, let us know how the doctor's appointment went.

Laura, what a blessing that Greg will join you for Disney!!!!! What a Christmas gift:santa:

Bethany, bugs in a table?! Wouldn't be a place I would go either.

Hope everyone is feeling better.

Janice, my Chicago arrival is Jan 17th! We are staying 3 blocks from the Oriental theater in apartments by Millenium Park.......I have no idea what any of that means, I just hope it's good:)

I'm feeling better today but I'm supposed to fly to Florida Friday for the birth of my new niece on Monday.......I'm starting to get worried. I had planned on doing so much this week...oh well.

Morning, everyone! We are still deep in the land of painting and decluttering. On the bright side, the painting is coming along well, and I'm happy with the results. Not so happy with the way the kids are decluttering their toys. Guess I'm going to have to do that one for them. I'm sorry, but if you haven't played with something in the 8 years we've been in this house, OUT IT GOES!!!

Dinner tonight will be something easy. I'm thinking parmesan chicken tenders with barbecue sauce for the kids, and a garlic dipping sauce for me and Alan. I've got some broccoli I can steam to go along with it, and maybe some kind of rice on the side.

Marisa - I'm keeping you in my prayers this morning!

Nancy - I'm also praying for you and Buddy.

Bethany - The bugs in the table would send me right up the wall! I'm with you on Arby's instead!

Maria - Sounds like Chicago is going to be fun! I hope we'll get some pictures!

Sheryl - Welcome to Fall! 50 degrees sounds really good about now! We're sitting at about 35 right now. I'm glad your hair experience wasn't as bad as it could have been. Alexis is so precious! I'm so glad she has you in her life!

Becky and Laura - Good luck with all the ADR's! I'm sure that it will all work out somehow. With the power of the WFD gals behind you, prayers will be answered!

Kathy - I'm so sorry that you are still feeling blue and icky! I can totally understand. Take the time you need, but know that we are here for you when and if you need us!

I know I missed a ton of you, so I'll just close with a blanket of pixie dust for everyone!
